Briskoda Fabia at the Nurburgring??

Featured Replies

H All,

Brother in law just got back from a road trip to Nurburgring and Spa, Had a great time and spotted a Briskoda stickerd up Silver fab. He said it had been lowered, Remapped (He thinks) and had Xenons, Just wondering if it was one of you guy's??............. Anyway by the sounds of what he's been telling me I think I'll be going on the next one....

PS: he was in an Audi A3 (Red) S-line.......

It was me :D , 14 laps at the Ring and over 50 laps  at Spa

sorry to disappoint you but its not remapped , it is just driven very quickly by a complete loony , the condition of the front tyres will attest to that , mullered for want of a better word

Hi Ric, I'm pleased that it isn't remapped it gives me confidence when i go because mines not either, What was she like out there bearing in mind that I've never been on a track day before?? What where your lap times if you don't mind I just want to compare them with the B-I-Law............ Hope you had a great time.

the standard powered car is ok round the Ring , it only struggles on the straights where continued acceleration up to higher speeds is required , mine seems to struggle to achieve 115mph , but the straight where i got this speed has slight kinks in and is slightly up hill also , best lap last year was 10.19 , this year 9.48

remapped , i would hope to see low 9.30s as the acceleration on the straights and between corners would be superb

i did over 8 laps in the wet , the number of cars you can pass is amazing , some of the higher powered rear drive cars just tippy toe round

please note my car may have standard power but it has Eibach springs , Jabba ARB , Cupra console bushes , Toyo tyres and a 312mm front brake set up fitted , so all the good bits bar a remap

i didn't record any times at Spa as i was having far to much fun , but the same applies there , in the twisty sections the car holds its own (especially in the wet) but the straight from Raidillon to Les Combes is a killer as again its slightly up hill , also BMW M3s would catch and pass me down into Eau Rouge , but they would brake twice , once at the left kink then when it turns right , whereas i would brake once and carry the speed over the top , almost catching them up in the process

Std VRS suspension is totally unsuitable for track driving if you ask me! Way too soft. Still anyone can drive on the Ring, so don't let it put you off driving round just for a bit of fun and the whole atmosphere is awesome. If you can, grab a steak on a hot stone at Pistenklaus - it's fantastic. Have to say, first time round, the Ring is a little intimidating.

Went round with a mate in a completely std powered S1 Elise (118 compared to my 262!) with Nitron suspension and he did 9:08 (I timed it). The driver seems to make more difference on the Ring than the car!!

your last line is totally correct

i went round in the back of my mates Impreza whilst he did a 9.33 (it was his first time there) that car was just stuck to the road and felt so quick , so for my car to be only a second a mile slower with the best part of 200bhp less power , i've got to be happy :D

Plus I would suggest not to make the ring your first track day, I still find it a little intimidating prior to getting on the road there, seems to have a funny ora around it  if you have a local circuit see if you can bag yourself a few laps at a RWYB day or the likes to make sure you totally understand your car first

Oulton Park or even Three Sisters (i think they do track days there)

Totally agree with the previous comments, guys and certainly, try to so at least a trackday (preferably with some tuition) before you go to the Ring as it's a tad daunting otherwise. Also, go at your own pace; don't try to impress anyone or it's likely to end in tears. Fantastic place for petrol heads, though and do get there before the Euro bar stewards decide to close/restrict it.

Re previous posting, I've heard Bedford is great as you have easy run-offs. I've done a couple of TD's at Goodwood and that's a tad scarey because of the speeds and relative lack of run-offs - if things go wrong, they'll go wrong big time!!

sounds just like the Ring then , i bet Goodwood don't ask you to pay for Armco, recovery and track closed time

i picked Oulton and Three sisters as they are the closest to Wigan , also worth a mention is Aintree

lol, no I think you are right, matey! Heard Oulton is great! In fact, our Lotus mob had a one race in their series there recently.LoTRDC - Elise Trophy

Oulton Park is excellent , good mix of corners and usually pretty safe , done 2 track days there , one on standard suspension the other with the good bits fitted , found i was using a gear higher (faster) in at least 3 corners

Cool! Twisty tracks are great. Just come back from Abbeville last week, which was fab -

i wish Oulton Park track days were that cheap ,

For some reason, much like wine, France is cheaper for TD's.

Have to dis-agree with not making the Ring your first track day. This sounds a bit melodramatic to me.

I'd recommend if you go, to apply a bit of common sense, drive it like a normal road until you get to grips with where your going and be aware of quicker cars. Pace will up as circuit knowledge circuit improves.

This I do agree with.

just out of interest , what sort of times was your B-I-Law doing at the Ring ?

I understand your point, but my local circuit for instance is Knockhill, with 9 notable corners, It takes some people to learn how to drive a racing line around them whilst keeping track etiquette whatever that may be on the day, the ring has 33 left hander

100% must if your at the ring! if you want directions to the restaurant (owned by Sabine's parents) just ask!

The driver seems to make more difference on the Ring than the car!!

Absolutely, the number of hairy chested porker drivers being totally embarrased by the local spotty oiks in 1.0 pandas is actually hilarious, circuit knowledge is the only way to quick lap times.

I have to agree with lance here, if you keep your eyes in the mirror and look for faster cars coming up behind, you will be fine, you dont have to to spank it round and I'd heavily advise you not to for the first few laps at least, remember it is an open road and you may come across coach tours pootling about etc as well as the odd organ doner (biker) laying in the road. it's not a daunting place at all, just enjoy yourself, drive within your limits and soak up the atmosphere!

If you'd seen us Scumballers tottering round the ring last year (and again this year) you'd realise theres not much to worry about except keeping to the right (and indicating right) when faster cars pass you, and believe me, they will!

Laps at spa??? isnt part of that still on public road?
