Slow electric window operation

Featured Replies

Hope anyone can help.

On operating the electric windows on the wifes fabia silverline, it is definitely slower in operation when the window is almost shut (say between 80% and 100% full operation) and when closing on its initial 20% closing.

When past these points the operation is smooth a without the loading sound as heard with the above.

Could it be the window mechanism out of align, any ideas  ???

Do i take it back to the dealer as the car is only 6 months old or wait until its first service in 6 months time ???

Thanks in advance

Does it not run a bit slower at the top and bottom in case your kiddies get their heads stuck in the window ? Or something ? :P

The description is confusing, what i mean't to say was that when the windows is going down (ie to fully open) the operation is slower (noticably) at 80-100% opening.

When opening the window it starts slower then increases as it goes up.

The passenger window is ok, as no undue loading noise can be heard on the operation up or down on the window.

Sorry for an confusion.

Well the drivers side electric window has finally got confused.

The window will open fully with one press off the switch, when it reaches the bottom everything is still OK.

When you activate the switch to close it, it will go up may be 1/3 distance then stop, then will come down on its own accord. With the window now in its fully open position you have to manually hold the switch to close it, it will reach again 1/3 distance then stop and we have to pull the switch again to close it.

Therefore the single touch operation does not function on closing.

Has anyone any ideas, before i phone the dealer ???

Thanks in advace

i hah this problem on my octavia a couple weeks ago but it cleared itself. you could one touch open but if you tried one touch close it would up maybe 2/3 then open again and you had to close manually to reset it. works fine now though

There are some note in the manual on how to reset the onetouch open/close system.

Mark as your window is not going slow all the time it sounds like something is fouling the mechanics inside the door. Would get a dealer to check.

I had a regulator replaced under warrenty last year in my Fabia. It was making a strange noise, kind of grating noise. Regulator was replaced and all was well, though make sure the garage do it right- it can be a tricky job.

run some washing up liquiddown the rubbers and operate window a few times that should do the trick

Tried what you said (ie Window convenience operation in the handbook). The windows came down as per the handbook, but still they don't operate as they should on closing.

The handbook also states that if the battery is dis-connected the top position has to be re-set, could this be the problem ??

But the battery has not been dis-connected though ??

Any thoughts anyone.

if the window (in one touch) function goes up and then stops and goes back down this is whats called roll back ie stops anyone trapping parts of body in the window i should think the problem is the windows getting caught on dry rubbers try doing what i mentioned above!!!

K, is it possible to decrease the sensitivity of the "trapped fingers detection" system?

Cheers for the tip, will try it tonight and report back tomorrow morning. Spoke with the dealer (Horners @ Bury) who have said for me to bring it in on friday morning anyway.

Thanks for all the tips guys, hope we can sort it so that SWMBO can get of my case.

Thanks again

K is it possible that something else could be causing the window to roll back. This has happened to me on a number of occasions, especially if the window has been down after driving around for a while (maybe bumps in the roads or the vibration, is moving something inside the door). It doesn't happen all the time just occasionlly. After it does occur, I could use the window on a number of occasions afterwards (after the car has been restarted) with no problems.

Is there any specific grease that is recommended to use, if so whats the best way to put it on ?

The windows now function correctly, the use of washing up liquid and reseting the convenience has done the trick.

Still booked into the dealers in the morning anyway, would be nice to find out what caused the fault (would vag-com register a fault code ??), while they are at it i will try and get them to activate the automatic door locking.

Thanks for the assistance.
