Ex Police Octy(Ebay)

Featured Replies

If I was in the market for a less expensive but really fast motor I would not hesitate at an ex-Police missile.

The maintainance is exemplary - the only thing, as with all cars, is that with high mileages the auxilliaries cause problems / need replacing.

Akin to the myth that diesels last forever, properly maintained. Yes, the engines will - it will be everything else that fails and become ruinously expensive to replace.

Personally i wouldnt touch an ex police car as i drive them on a daily basis. they do get pushed to their limit daily, its not just about chasing people but responding to blue light incidents covering long distances in a matter of minutes, stopping and starting, in and out of traffic.

As for them being looked after well, no chance, ok so they are strict on servicing but they do get alot of bumps and drivers who dont care about them.

it will also depend on what type of car they were, in my force they are-

GP-general purpose, mostly used for day to day driving around, fast response so shouldnt be so abused however these ar the slower and cheapest cars.

AREA CARS- Driven hard most of the time, fast response, blue light runs, chasing cars etc etc, basically not given the chance to warm up before being driven to within an inch of their life, then certainly not given a chance to cool down.

TRAFFIC- Depends on how much of the force is covered by motorways, alot just go up and down them, but others are brought specificly for different roles ie imprezas etc to pusuit stolen cars.

ok so the engine might have had a hard life but has been well maintained and serviced. but almost every other component unless changed will have there lives shortened. the brakes and certainly all suspension components will be hard pushed, just think of all the speed humps that we dont slow down for when someones lives are in danger.

or your on your way to the pizza shop :P

I have a secret hankering for a white vRS, must be kept in top dollar condition though.

the fastest car I have ever been in was a Cavalier GLi, which had covered over 150,000 miles! Don't laugh!! Put it this way, flashed a Escort Cosworth to move over on the M1 at silly (don't ask) speeds it was not my car I was a reluctant passanger. When I asked the owner, trust me you had to see it too believe it! Why it was so quick, he said I guess the engines loose.

Ballsteins, Cavalier GLi vs Escort Cosworth? MY bets on the Cosworth was shagged or it was a rep. Even the Cavalier GSi wasnt that quick, I know as I fitted an engine from one in a Corsa which proved to be a little nippy!

Like I said, you had to see it to believe it, the Escort was maxed out at 140 mph remember. That GLi would cruise at 130mph as my wife will testify!

Or smoke the wheels from standstill upto 60 mph in second gear, mmm as the Police will testify.

"VAUXHALL CAVALIER 2.0 GLi 8V 1991 GAVE ME 139 MPH ONCE (mdjones14)

Just found that on google, sounds about right bear in mind that they were quite aerodynamic, had very strong engines and the Gli had really long gearing, 100 mph in third (just about) if I remember correctly.

"white would be off putting for me due to the fact that they look dirty very easy" claims Robknapp2.

Do they???????????

Never in my experience. White would not be my first choice, but black would always be my last. Worst colour EVER for showing $hit! On top of that, you have to pay extra for the priveledge when buying new! It's a scandal and an outrage.

:thumbdwn:

As others have said it depends on it's role as a police vehicle any that have been used by City forces or divisions will have hit more speed bumps that you've had hot dinners, been involved in low speed shunts or manouvering collisions and been driven hard in 2nd and 3rd gear by drivers who are not bothered about the resale value. Those used in rural areas are probably in better condition due to longer runs at constant speeds although they will be higher mileage.

A lot of ex traffic cars have also been used for boxing and other contact with suspect vehicles so again collisions are not uncommon and almost all ex police vehicles wil have had a few.

True, but with what 115bhp on tap its hard to imagine that sailing past doing 140+ isnt it ;)

is this for real a chavalier!!! someone's going to bring up calibra's in a min.

The service history isn't logged anywhere other than the service book or on the system of whatever dealer serviced it. Skoda as yet are not attatched to the VW/Audi dialogue system which I think tbh is shame. There every service and warranty work is recorded and any dealer can access it at anytime.

Personally i'd have no problems buying an ex police car, I bet its had an easier life than some cars on here and besides, molly cuddled cars are nothing but **** ache. And for your information, white is THE colour to be seen in this season ;)

The police service centre will have a printout of every nut and bolt that has been changed, I bought one 18 months ago and got the service printout, maximum mileage between services was 7000, I've done 25000 miles in mine and its the best car i've ever had, and I've had a lot!!!!!!

Mechanically they are much better than private owned cars, as for holes and damage etc mines got 2 tiny holes on the dash, 3 in the headlining and the other little bits I replaced for peanuts from a skoda dealer.

Downhill with a tailwind? I also saw the same car beat a renualt 5 gt turbo uphill much to the renault drivers dismay, he passed us on woodhead road like knutter, nearly causing a head on. Stop quoting figures out of a book and live it!! How many faster cars than yours have you beat??

How can I beat a faster car than mine?

How can I beat a faster car than mine?

Easy, most people hesitate, the figures quoted in books don't really apply in the real world because not all drivers have the same ability also you have to consider (or not maybe) other road users. Do you want to win or do you want to die? Thats the reason I don't do high speed chases. watch Santa Pod, anyone can miss or fumble a gear/ not get the clutch just right/ too many revs in first etc. etc!! Lets all buy Octavia Diesels and go racing in Lotus's on the track at weekend! Balls to ESP, traction control, power steering, anti-lock brakes.

ps Sorry to totally and utterly miss the point of this thread...look at my original post White VRS's are cool!!

A lot of unbadged VX's were undercover cars. About 1 in 150 Vauxhall motors were a real peach and sadly their quality inspections didn't pick so many up... (Which kinda ties in with this thread :o)

Yeah, I'd have one - if they let me keep the lights on it

I believe you Skodamart that your cavalier would pull around one forty coz my father in law had a carlton 2.0 gl That i borrwed for ages and it would hit one forty easy. It was super quick once it was moving. Also the weight of cars back then were very light. A mk1 cav 130sri weighed about 925kg a mk 2 cav about 1200 and the carlton was 1168kg wheras a corsa in the mid nineties was around 1190kg. So power to weight was pretty good. Plus they are quite aerodynamic whreas the coz was a rounded of aerodynamic brick.:)

To say a Cavalier is quicker than an Escort Cosworth though is worth a chuckle.

;) The bikini driver may have been a wuss or the car itself been thrashed from new. I overtook a Porsche in my Montego once whilst keeping up with an open wheeled vintage racing Bentley up the M42 to Donnington doing a ton. Not every Montego will be able to pass every Porsche under every circumstance either :) That time was FUN! :P

Oh and my 1967 Victor would pull 115 when it was 18 years old & I never got it on the M/way coz it was never taxed, insured or MOT's :o

Get you lot...you sound like a bunch of Fabia drivers!

apart from they have not all stacked their cars
