Ex Police Octy(Ebay)

Featured Replies

saw a programme recently about police vehicles that are sold off. It is routine to service them not annual but twice a year, because of the constant use, and high performance that is demanded of them.

I think that it would be a good buy, not withstanding the high milage. I would not buy it simply because of the colour white. Shows every speck of dirt etc.

5 speed gearbox?

How easy do you reckon it would be to patch up the various holes and mounts on an ex police vehicle? My cousin's bloke works for the police here and rates their vRS' very highly, so much so that he bought his own. :)

More holes than a packet of polo's ay. may be not then.

...Although Ive only had my Octy Estate a few months, its a black (Presumably undercover) ex police car, and apart from a few holes here and there (Ash tray, glove box, and 4 holes in the dash) the car itself seems fine. My Mechanic seems to think that the turbo whistles a little more that the TT's he's driven, oh, and the front seems lower than the others ive parked next to, but all seems ok. I got a full print out of the service history, even down to the wiper blades being changed.

Things to watch for though:

Make sure it has an aerial (I didnt have one on mine and didnt notice it until the 2 hour drive home!)

You get the CD Changer Magazine

The spare key (Another mistake on my part really!)

And the accessories in the spare wheel are all there, especially the locking wheel nut key!

The usual thing really ask the questions and bid accordingly.

Following on from what Soviet said, in the experience that I have and friends have had with ex service cars, they are well serviced, by competant tech's using quality products. As an example, all parts on mine when we serviced it a week ago were all genuine, not some cheapo stuff! Even down to paining dots on nuts and bolts, it all seems to be very 'By the Book'

Again, as Soviet mentioned, white would be off putting for me due to the fact that they look dirty very easy, my main concern with this one would be if the paint has faded around their decals they apply, herefore leaving a car that needs a good machine buff.

Cheers

Rob

If it goes for the right money then I see no reason why not.

It will have had a hard life yes, but many people here have them.

The roof can be repaired and then repainted so budget for that.

The seat is bound to be worn but you could change the cover.

i have one its spot on:) mines not got high milage and didn't have that manyholes in tha dash etc.

I too think mine seems a little lower on the front than the standard ones i've parked next too. I didnt get the service history print out from the cops with mine. Anyone know how i go about getting it?

i love the colour white and personally think black actually shows the dirt worse than any other colour, also you find people move over for a white octy

The service history isn't logged anywhere other than the service book or on the system of whatever dealer serviced it. Skoda as yet are not attatched to the VW/Audi dialogue system which I think tbh is shame. There every service and warranty work is recorded and any dealer can access it at anytime.

Personally i'd have no problems buying an ex police car, I bet its had an easier life than some cars on here and besides, molly cuddled cars are nothing but **** ache. And for your information, white is THE colour to be seen in this season ;)

Hi Ya mate,

What is this season? the silly season? It it like a fashion parade, when we are told,' every one that is anybody will want to be seen wearing this'?

After the model struts his or her stuff on the catwalk then the rig out is never seen again.

Soviet.

Isnt white the new black :):D:rofl:

I've had a few ex-police cars and they've all been brilliant. The best being a 306 which I bought with 115,000 miles on (three years old) and took to 250,000 miles. In the time I owned it, I changed the heater matrix, a seal on the fuel pump and the glow plugs. AS said, they are very well serviced.

The only thing which would put me off would be on a turbo with the lack of warm up/cool down times.

I would not buy it simply because of the colour white

Oh well someone is going to get a bargain then :)

I don't think white is that bad a colour?

Black is a real pain to keep clean :rubchin:

I got an ex Police 4x4 Octy last week, to get the history just phone the relevant Police transport dep't very detailed history I got from Strathclyde, mine was an undercover car so no exterior holes, just a few by the handbrake gaitor, as has been said, serviced every 6k instead of 12k, even the Haldex oil and filters 4 times although it has only 41k on it.

I'd probably add 30-40k onto the engine wear as these cars are generally used for rapid response, hence start the car, foot to the floor, no time to warm the engine up properly, having said that I've seen some go onto 200k+

Well under 4K can't be bad anyway ;)

I dont think thats really an issue though. Traffic cars will rarely be called out to run hard from cold - most of the time they've been driving around for a while before they find someone to chase.

Its quite a regular occurance to get called out straight from the nick-cold start and blat it.

Cars are serviced very regulary and generally want for nothing, but they have spent pretty much all of their lives taken to the limits

See if you can find out what accidents it been involved in as its rare to have an unpranged job car!

the 1 on flea bay was resprayed and has some really good photos of paint incl roof and all angles dash looked good but seats were quite grubby and tired could have done with new mats but seemingly this particular company specialize in reconditioning them to the highest standards???

seems a pity then about the interior then!

spent all of their lives taken to the limit? thats a bit OTT is it not? i don't deny they are driven hard but they also spend a lot of time ticking over in laybys

was simply saying that it will have been driven a lot more briskodally (ha! did you see what i did there?;-)) than a civvy one

i spose if it was used as a traffic car in my constabulary it wouldnt have been worked too hard... (jibe at traffic) But then we use T5s

I have had mine for 2 years now and have done 25k miles with no issues at all. Its now on 113k, 10k of which on an IP map. Its worth nothing to anyone else, too many miles, totally trashed front bumper, baby sick in the back, but I love it and use it like it should be. It also always amazes me how much stuff you can cram in the boot too, just the other day I managed to get my whole kitchen in it to take to the dump!

Oh, and its white, and it looks the t1ts. :)

I see it finished at just shy of 4k. Seems to be a genuine buyer too, looking at feedback. Anyone on here? :rubchin: :)

Reckon that's a bit of a bargain, even considering the mileage. Especially if you were looking to keep it a long time and could steadily even that out over X years :)

Steve

mmm, Lummox seems to have hit the nail on the head, white is cool especially the new Focus ST! As for police cars, you know the life they have had, motorway miles don't do half as much damage as boy racer town driving, I have read many posts about turbos failing on new cars with only 20,000 miles on the clock on this site. I would hazzard a guess that this car has its original turbo. Holes? blind grommets if you don't fancy alot of hard work. As for high mileage?the fastest car I have ever been in was a Cavalier GLi, which had covered over 150,000 miles! Don't laugh!! Put it this way, flashed a Escort Cosworth to move over on the M1 at silly (don't ask) speeds it was not my car I was a reluctant passanger. When I asked the owner, trust me you had to see it too believe it! Why it was so quick, he said I guess the engines loose.

I think he may have a point. Buy a low mileage 30,000 miles or so 10 year old car and drive it like it was intended and I will guess that the engine will have had enough buy 60,000 miles. Running in means slowly bringing the engine, over a period of time to run at the speeds that will be expected of it in every day life.

I am old enough, with enough experience to base this conclusion on experience, not something I have read in a magazine. Comments appreciated!

Is it you that's bought this one then? :D
