Too many ins claims on the Fab vRS

Featured Replies

no, just really annoying

the most ironic thing about Alanis's song is that the things she talks about aren't really ironic.

It would have sounded strange if she had called it "Sod's Law" though :D

my company pays for my car insuarnce so let the "youth" smash up as many as they want:rofl:

I would highly assume that the correlation between low MPG style driving and part failure must be close to 1 i.e. very likely.

My driving style is to keep the revs between 2k and 4k wherever possible, and this has given me an MPG of only around 45 over 3 years and 54k of driving. Nothing's ever broken (yet - touch wood!), and the last time I spoke to the mechanic at the indie garage I used to take it to, it'd never even had any fault codes recorded! Fair enough that was over a year ago now and might have changed (especially after the 'low coolant' fiasco!), but you get the picture...

I suspect the "poor" MPG is mostly down to using the A/C at all times, and filling up with supermarket 'City' diesel rather than branded fuel (although I'm aware of all the claims about Snake Oil!)

As for the whole Chartered Accountant / Actuary thing, I'm becoming incresingly of the opinion that a certain weighting is given to "ability to pay" (very Lib Dem). I'm married, live in a fairly nice area, don't park on the road, and have a professional job, which as it happens involves taking responsibility for the safety and reliability of things that are more-than-a-little safety-critical. I understand hazards, risks, human factors, and component / system failure rates; as a result reckon I'm in a fairly good position to know what's stupid, perfectly acceptable, and risk-averse.

Yet I'm always appalled by my insurance renewals and quotes, especially considering I'm early 30, have 7 years NCB, no points, and although I have some mods now, these aren't of course taken into account when you get an initial quote - they're only added on after you declare them. Even the no-mod quotes make my eyes water...

Well to assume their budget is limitless is naive. Clearly there is a target they have to achieve - what some comps do is restrict you tro certain car makes (this may be due to the links they have with said car marker but also if one car maker is overall cheaper to insure than another then thats a cost saving which cannot be ignored.

This thread would be a lot shorter is someone had said on page 1:

Lets face it, the Fabia VRS is becoming the ch*v's car of choice. Back in the late 90's they all wanted to drive a Saxo VTR/VTS but now they feel the need to impress their mates with something that has some "class". The Fabia is a little like Burberry clothing - it has that quality feel to it and its all well and good until you realise the calibre of the other people who bought one.

Fabia VRS - Coming to a McDonalds car park near you!

;)

EDIT: Some of us saw it coming back in 2005 ;)

Chartered Accountant & soon to be Qualified Actuary - and you're complaining about

Look lets just put it like this

•Do you need you car?

•If you do STFU complaining about paying over

Just checked for insurance on confused and... I found a quote that was

Yea, good point.

I must get round to paying off my

So it doesnt make much sense to change its looks - especially as most of the country is in huge debt.

But if it is your money (or your personal debt) then why does it matter to you if you mod your cars looks?

Next thing you are going to blame fabia drivers for a rise in interest rates for having 'bad debt' because they changed their alloys

I love some of the responses here, brightens up a boring morning at work. Anyway insurance is still working it's way down for me nearly halved last year from

I too love a nice bit of banter in the morning. Some dont really retort in an Adult manner but that makes it even more enjoyable seeing those spotty ch&vs struggling to answer the difficult issues raised.

lol

keep them coming.

I tried so hard and so long to ignore this thread - but hey here I go.

I am 19 - I own an '06 plate vRS with 1YNC - I am a Student with a part time job

- I can tell you now that my insurance is alot higher then yours and I still manage to pay both the finance for the car, house rent, Food, Fuel and Insurance alongside Tax ect. I know that you have alot more commitments then me - but this thread is just red flag to a bull.....

Your details on the other cars show that you arn't looking into them... Instead you come on to a Skoda forum and slag off the vRS - One Question: Have you gone on to a VW forum and looked at all the problems with the golf? I think if you actually take the time to read the above posts such as 'IRF - a person who worked for an insurance company' they have a greater incite.

What im trying to say is basically - this whole thread was done with the wrong attitude and intention. If I was looking at this problem the thread would be 'Insurance group Issues for VRS' or 'New Car Help' then state what factors you wanted and all the details of the cars you were looking at.

unless you shop around (which gets less & less worthwhile as you get older due to the time value of money - i.e. assume you sit down on the web looking round for 1-2hrs when you earn
could you explain your logic here please?

If you spend two hours to save

Ok let's do the sums here - I spend a couple of hours at 55 quid an hour to save myself 500 quid. Yep that works :P

could you explain your logic here please?

I guess his point is that if you're self-employed, then you could have earned

Does one not have staff to do these jobs?

If not, you need to get married ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was sure we lived in a Liberal Democratic society with an economic system based upon the notion of capitalism and the competitive market

If people wish to modifiy their car, whether it be a Saxo, Cortina, X5, Or Fabia whatever. Whether they want to put a bloody great ironing board on the back or simply change the headunit... if they can pay for it then why shouldnt they have the right to do that?

You come across to me as a very judgemental person with some sort of superiority complex. I'm 19 and have a vRS... and yes I have modified it very slightly (no performance, however I plan to in a few years time when I'm 22). What run-of-the-mill criticism are you going to throw at this "yoof"?

If you don't like people modifying THEIR car which THEY have bought with THEIR money then why don't you just buy a Daewoo Matiz or a bloody City Rover.. pay 2p a year insurance and be happy in the knowledge that there is probably no-one modifiying "your" precious car. Or maybe you could nab a bit of the North Pole before the Ruskies do and establish the Autocratic State of New Welshy where car modifications would be banned and the driving age would be 104.

Cor blimey! :clapclap:

If people wish to modifiy their car, whether it be a Saxo, Cortina, X5, Or Fabia whatever.

Or Fiat Coupe turbos ... like Welshy's modded one ;)

Chris

I think some people have missed the point here too. If Welshy is almost 30 and a Chartered Accountant, why is he complaining about spending
