Folding door mirrors possible?

Featured Replies

Doesnt the kn0b stop working with no power?

But there is still a power feed to the housing for the puddle lights, so maybe this triggers it along with some VAGcom trickery?

I'm assuming the housing as OEM too, as dont we share the housings with the new Passatt's/Jetta's and some Audi's?

I tried a Seat Leon recently, and that had folding mirrors. It worked by turning the electric mirror dial 180degrees. I think the switches are the same as Skoda, so maybe all you need for the switch is a new mirror ****.

I found in ETKA switches for Leon ang Golf V for folding mirrors. It is the same switch, that control adjusting and heating with additional position (as far as I understand). For Octavia there are NO part number for switch with folding mirrirs and I can not find the description of this procedure in owner manual for my car

I think folding mirrors should have been an option. I would have gladly paid for them to be an Factory option!

Went Ireland a few weeks back and hired a 407 which had folding mirrors! They were ace! Made parking in multi-story car parks, and whizzing through traffic an ease! :)

Same results here Andrey. I've also been looking at the coding for the doors and Central Conv but can't see anything immediately obvious.

Err, my mirror switch already has a stop position at 180 degrees to the normal position... you can go either way to get to it, which might explain the lack of different part numbers.

Maybe the 'o' position between the L&R selection?

If they are anything like the Golf installation, then you will need new electric window motors (which control the folding function), plus the correct mirror switch, plus the door harness plus the actual mirror housings with the folding mirror microswitch.

I probably doesn't help that the Octavia mirrors are the same as the Polo.

I'm pretty sure they aren't available on the Polo full stop.

Thanks folks! It would seem that the only solution is to get Skoda Auto to offer this as a factory fit option. What is clear from this thread is that there would be plenty of interest if the folding mirror option was available.

I would have opted for them if available. There are loads of little bits and pieces that Skoda do not/can not offer to prevent treading on uncle VW's toes.

Trawl through the Passat options list to get an idea. This list also gives a clue how good VFM Skoda still are

I would have liked to see them before purchasing - I've seen the Golf folding mirrors and they don't fold very far, in fact it's hardly worth having (although I suppose it does save walking round the car to push them in) - I've pushed in my driver's mirror a fair few times, but it's easy to do, so aren't that bothered.

At £400 I would not be interested, at £100 I might well be...
