My new car.......cue the hairdresser jokes

Featured Replies

Got this yesterday

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/supercarclassics/s32klg.htm

It's a MX5 (eunos) 1.8i RS Spec.

it has LSD, six speed box, bilstein springs and dampers, thicker ARB's and strut braces all standard from the factory.

It has a nice set of Enkei alloys on it which are quite expensive i believe.

Already had a bit of sideways action in it.

And quite a few hairdresser jokes, however my mate who had cracked a couple of gags appreciated how good the car was as the back end stepped out once or twice:eek:

After having a Skoda and not worrying about the same old jokes i can't see this being a problem.

Very nice!

Chris

I like it,looks like fun:thumbup:

It has got a couple of things that i am going to sort out.

The hood has a couple of small tears (10mm) low down where the rear/side of it meets the bodywork, it kept me and the inside nice and dry still though during todays rain, i am going to patch these up for now. Also the seat has a tear in it that will take about ten minutes to repair with some good yarn and a curved needle.

It is unbelievable to drive.

Doesn't feel as quick as the Octy but it does shift when you drive it like you stole it.

I was told the 0-60 is around 7.7 secs so it is good enough. Also cruised at a ton ok too;)

But it is the grip, handling and steering that it is all about. Awesom IMHO.

The car has had 2 jap owners, the uk imported and i am the first private uk owner.

It has 42k miles on the clock, came with 12months MOT, 6 months tax and 3 months warranty.

Cool car. I'm quite tempted to get my gf to have something like that for her next car. Not saying its a girls car, I just need a big boot for work :D

That handbrake looks a little... er.... high. Was it excited? :D

What did you think I ment ??????????????????????????????????? ;) :P

Very nice mate. They are a good car, my sisters got an MX5, loves the way it handles. Enjoy :D

And it's in Beverley.

Pass me the scissors, quick.

Nice car - jammy g*t.

PS Love the quiff :D

No hairdressers jokes here mate. Nice car. I had a 1.6 Eunos about 9 years ago... excellent fun to drive. Felt a bit vulnerable when in traffic surrounded by 4x4's, but on the twisties, I don't think I have ever driven a more fun car.

Enjoy!

it has LSD,

So thats what you been on ;)

Nice looking car.

Enjoy

:)

adjustment of the handbrake cable is accessed by removing the screw in the lever surround , pull the inner trim back , and with a 10mm socket tighten the nut

also rear calipers have adjustment , accessed by removing the 14mm bolt on the back of the caliper , then turning the 5mm allen bolt inside the hole , but this is best left to the professionals as it can cause problems if done incorrectly

Nice.

My neighbour has one. He calls it Dougal, "coz it's magic on roundabouts".

Enjoy! :drivesaf: :D

No jokes from here either. Would love another one, as a weekender :)

Steve

Nor from me;) Great fun and they actually sound quite good when you welly it.Which seems the only way to make proper progress.

Enjoy...and don't leave that roof up.

Looks like fun.....

In a slightly camp way, but as long as its a good drive, who cares if you look gay in it :D

who cares if you look gay in it :D

They had an episode featuring it on topgear - and they adored it. It's supposed to be a really fun car.

Good for you

Cheers

Hi there and welcome to the joys of MX5 ownership  - even though we are on a Skoda site!

I've got a '95 Mk1 1.8iS :D

I've had it for about 9 years now and you get used to the hairdresser jokes after a while but by far the best cure is to take people out in it and show them what they are capacble of. they usually come back either with thier tail between thier legs or completely changed views

Enjoy the end of the summer and drop me a line if you need any advice or help as the Mk2's are essentially the same mechanicals with a different body.

In relation to the hoods you can get a repair kit from Mazda direct for about £18 (glue and a sheet of vinyl the same as the hood) which should see you through the winter if needed but they don't usually cause problems where you have them. Otherwise but new hoods are pretty cheap if you know where to go and are relatively straightforward to replace (I put a new mohair one on mine a couple of years ago).

Oh... you WILL get the modifying bug if you haven't already, be that cosmetic or performance (the engine is good for around 200bhp with a turbo or supercharger and little else as it was a normally aspirated development of the Familia (323) turbo unit.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I try and get the top down as often as i can, fortunatley the heaters on these cars are hot enough to roast a chicken.:)

Had the back end get a bit lively in the wet yesterday too.

Also found out that tyres are only around £30-£40 a corner too and that is for a premium brand too:P

Oh ffs Rob.

I really want an MX5, but I wouldn't want to put any money towards it - i.e. I'd want a straight swap for the Passat.

Looks like a peach you've got there, I think even I'd be tempted, despite telling myself only a 1.8 is good enough!

See you over on mx5oc! :)

I would say its about as good as you can get for a 9 year old car. Its got a few imperfections but overall it is very good.

I sold the Octy and put some cash towards that and got it.

Not sure how much your passat is worth but you could probably get a good mark one at least i would have thought. There are some very nice ltd edition ones too.

I was wondering myself what "just a 1.8" would be like. It is excellent. I guess i will always miss the shove of the turbo in the octy but this is a whole different driving experience, its like getting in a racing car everytime you go out in it.

I am off out now to waste some petrol and get some topless action:rofl:

Passat is worth about £4500 p/x, £5500 - £6000 private.

I think I want a later (2002 on) NB model, for about £7k. But failing that something like a 10th Anniversary on a 99T for under £5k could be achieved I think.

Doesn't seem to be much available in the area at the moment, will keep an eye out! :)

nice cars i would have one, think there is a supercharger and/or turbo conversion for them, that would make it a very nice car:thumbup:
