What can't you stand about other drivers

Featured Replies

my latest bugbear is "the just one more car" drivers

your driving along in the inside lane on a motorway/dual carriageway , sensible/safe distance in front to next car , huge gap behind , you're coming up to a junction to turn off , then the next second someone has dived in front of you to go off at the same junction , why these pr1cks can't just pull in behind you i don't know

slowing down for speed cameras when they were already doing less than the speed specified for the road , there is one particular road i go on to get home , dual carriageway with a N/S and a clearway , so 70mph , i have been through the camera at less than 45mph  these "bad" drivers can cause road rage , whats even more amazing on this road , is that once they are through the camera area they will speed up and not 300yards down the road the limit drops to 50mph , but they continue in that at well above 60mph

lorries taking up 2 of the 3 lanes on a motorway  , its great that they are restricted to 56mph , but when one of them is restricted to 57mph and he is overtaking , it takes miles for it to get passed

And I can assure you neither my car, nor any of my colleagues cars, nor any of the cars on my fleet are 'barely road legal'

i have no doubt that you are correct , but there are many others that are less fastidious than yourself , i see them everyday in the Ford dealership i work for , drive them off the carpark and you think they are going to fall apart before you get in the workshop , i've seen 2 different cars welded together , badly, once

luckily or not we don't service them , we usually just have to fix their fuel problems

And I can assure you neither my car, nor any of my colleagues cars, nor any of the cars on my fleet are 'barely road legal' infact I'd put money on it they are all in better condition, more roadworthy and much more highly maintained than anyone else on Briskodas.

You may be operating the carlsberg taxi company but it seems that most people, particularly those in city areas, have to put up with anyone who can afford £500 for a car and that is what causes our prejudice against taxis.

I think you've said before that your taxis are all less than 2 years old where as I regulary see a G-reg Sierra operating in Manchester city centre, along with possibly innapropriate cars like fabias and polos. Nothing to say these cars aren't roadworthy but it you were being professional you probably wouldn't drive one of these.

As to confusing the "confidence" of professional drivers with bad driving, I think tail-gating and and lack of signalling falls into the later category, along with pulling out in front of me at the last possible moment whilst doing 15-20mph less than I am.

i will stick up for taxi drivers, i did a spell about 10 years ago (ish) for 2 years and all the taxi's in the fleet where immaculate. If you had a fault it was removed from service immediately and would be fixed and return to service asap. ive seen a few bad taxi's in my time but these are run by dodgy firms anyway who see it as a quick way to make a profit if they can avoid being caught by licencing staff, they are usually the ones who are not registered either (being careful not to cross the line in describing these people).

As for foglight users, i use to flash my rear fogs, but these days cant as it operates the front. however if following someone with rear fogs then full beam usually works ;)

Toyotas with gold tissue boxes? Even the dodgy looking cabs I see all have the correct council plates.

It's also a bit tiresome when a lorry driver doing 55 mph on a dual-lane carriageway suddenly decides to overtake another lorry doing 54.5 mph.

As to not been able to crticise other drivers, my driving record speaks for itself - no points in nearly 25 years.

Your driving record speaks volumes - you must be near perfect

I must be almost there then, no points in 13 years...... however I know there is room for improvement. I don't think any one is a perfect driver 100% of the time

All lorries are restricted these days to 56mph when one lorry decides he cannot make it up the hill at 56 and trundles up at 53-54 lorries who can maintain their speed will try and overtake as it is harder to move one of these beasts back up when on a hill so they dont want to lose their momentuim. I suggest you try driving one for a few weeks and see what we have to put up with. The thing that puts the driver in the outside lane into problems is when the n/s driver decides he can now get up to speed and wont let the o/s driver get past.

BTW being stuck behind one for a few minutes will hardly make any difference to your journey, i think i lost 5 minutes getting stuck behind lorries on my journey from oxford to southampton the other week, no hard lost considering if i had pushed through and not allowed any to pull out and risk being sidewiped by one.

Near perfect - not, competent - yes and still striving to improve

It's attitude that counts and respect that any other road user has just as much right to use the road, providing that they are legal. Being able to drive is a privilege not a right.

People who slow down from the speed limit and pass through a speed camera at 5-10 mph less "just in case".

-Tailgaters.

-Cigarette flickers - whats wrong with the ashtray? you are at the end of the day smoking the damn thing.

-Absence of indicators.

-No lights on in the rain/spray.

-Fog lights on after the fog has gone. Front fogs when clear = C H A V

-Lorry drivers who just pull out into the next motorway lane and ASSUME you will move out and make room for them.

-People who think the inside lane of an empty motorway contains land mines and avoid at any cost.

-The "I drive at 43mph everywhere regardless of the speed limit" brigade.

-People who drive 2.7ton Disco3's/Cayennes etc and randomly dump them near the school they are dropping the kids off at.

-Buses that think they still have the right of way despite the bus lane ending and merging with the normal carriageway.

-People that think they have the right to fly down the inside lane/middle lane before eventually carving someone up when returning to the outside lane.

-Defective lights of any kind.

-Drivers of foreign vehicles that seem to think it's great to blind us all.

-People who don't turn the bloody engine off during a long stint at a level crossing

-People with badly adjusted/folded in mirrors (funny as you can see their laps in their mirrors rather than their eyes)

Faulty lights in general - indicator normally means flashing reversing light and/or fog light.

-Motorbikes that sit off your rear quarter but won't overtake or back off a little.

-People who don't understand SPECS (read: tailgaters)

And people who think their cars are "quick" when they just plain aren't

I'm done :P

No offence meant, smstext, I have great respect for lorry drivers (I was a busdriver - city transport - for some years back in the 70's so I know at least something about large vehicles). And I see your point when it's an uphill stretch, but I've also seen it happen on level road when I think that it woudl be easier to just adjust your cruise control marginally. I know that lorry drivers have an awfully pressed schedule, but still.

And I find it a bit tiresome - it doesn't make me furious!:)

People who attempt to turn right out of a T-junction by blocking on coming traffic in the hope that someone will let them out. Well I can tell you....it won't be me!
in a fully loaded 44tonner this is often the only way to get out,and trust me when i pull you yeild,in ten years no one has proved me wrong on this:rofl:
Your driving record speaks volumes - you must be near perfect

Chris

if this is the way drivers are judged i must be one of the worst:rolleyes:

thats true - people pulling in to your braking space is a ****er when you drive a waggon too

even more so when you hit them

they certinly come off worse - another thing when you swing out to take a tight lefthand turn - the ******* who try comming up the inside , well thick

dont forget the car driver that will do anything to get past you, even if it involves driving up the pavement, over a few pedestrians and a bollard just to get in front and only for you to turn off at the next left

yes most annoying, the worst of all are the ones who sit at 54 mph and when you get alongside they have a panic attack - o no im being passed by a lorry , i best put my foot down, so you pull in and it starts al over again - happy days

and then they slow down as you try to move in... oh they the ones that make it look like the lorry is sitting in the outside on purpose:mad:

yep - i only do a bit of pelting when our drivers off, delivering plant equip, thats enoughfor me, well frustrating

There are many things which p!ss me off with other drivers, and everytime I encounter one I can't help being reminded of the last time I did something similar. Conscience is a complete ****.

But above all the old "don't do something which will make someone else brake or swerve" is what I try and live by.

As for 'drivers who think their cars are quick'...all Fabia drivers yes?

i have no doubt that you are correct , but there are many others that are less fastidious than yourself , i see them everyday in the Ford dealership i work for , drive them off the carpark and you think they are going to fall apart before you get in the workshop , i've seen 2 different cars welded together , badly, once

Then you are probably using non licensed illegal taxis, either that or your local council dont enforce the rules, at the end of the day, customers can vote with there feet, if your not happy with the standard of vehicle, dont use the cab firm. There are plenty of decent cab firms (like my own) who put customer safety and comfort first, My cabs are always immaculately maintained and as clean as is reasonably possible, I believe that is why my firm is so successfull.

There is no excuse for a public service vehicle of any description to be in a non roadworthy, or dirty condition, or to be of inappropriate type for it's purpose, anyone using such a vehicle should be reported to the local authorities immediately.

just for your information, a Taxi should not be of more than 7 years old unless it is of exceptionally good condition and is an executive vehicle used for weddings etc. 9 years is the absolute maximum and between 7 and 9 years they must undergo 6 monthly vst tests (super strict MOT's), obviously classic cars are exempt from the 7/9 year rule but they cannot be used as taxis.

Most recent annoying thing was some quaker woman (identified via car sticker) in front of me decided at the last second to pull in (indicating only when pulling in), leaving the rear end of the car sticking out in the middle of the road and stopping dead then talking to someone at the side of the road, despite having ample room to be courteous to cars behind and pull in properly.

The thing that *really* annoys me is there are *always* people who just *have* to squeeze past you when a road turns from dual carriageway to single, despite ample warnings from road signs, both in roadworks and where the roads are usually like this. I have recently figured out that when leaving the Armley gyratory from Leeds Inner Ring Road, to head towards Armley, the road changes to a single carriageway and 30 limit, but if you squeeze past me here and speed, you will get stuck at a red light further down the road anyway so I just laugh at the people who do this there now.

Has anyone else ever had drivers in the middle lane on the motorway trying to get past you to take an exit (while you're law obidingly in the left lane), realising they can't make it then braking and taking the exit behind you? What's that all about?! I don't know if they look at my car's badge and think haha crap car, I'm taking that, or if they've got an "I own the road and have to overtake everyone" attitude.

Here's some more, Ch@vRacers, unmarked police cars and old people.
