And another idea buys the farm

Featured Replies

yep my mates dad owns a MOT place and he said only today they have been told to clamp down big style.

All the lads had to get new no. plates on their cars

Sounds like a scheme for MOT stations to make money by sticking their stickers on your number plate!!

I have plain numberplates, no maker etc so these are gonna fail?

unless they're BS AU145d marked and the examiner doesn't overlook them, In all probability YES

wtf does 8UM FUC7ED marked mean?

Usually on the bottom right of the plate in the smallest font available or if there's a border it'll be broken with wait for it

BS AU145d

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

It's so Laser traps and SPECS can read your plate

And royaly 8utt f**k you every time you stray 1mph over the limit

Looks like the old plates need to be fitted then....

can sympathise on this one.

the local test station initially failed one of our cars for what was claimed to be a "plate that could be misread" but the interesting thing is that the plates have been on the car for 5 years and were made up by the supplying dealer.

we ended up having to point out that in order to make it easily readable them it would have to be deliberately miss place and that his own hand book says that they are legal from the perspective of the gaps being correct.

Looks like MOT time every year is now going to be fun

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has drawn up these regulations to cut vehicle crime

If only...

For accurate eyewitness accounts and to ensure enforcement cameras work

Thats more like it :thumbdwn::mad:

MOT is only good for the time it's tested, swap plates at test time then back again.

I was going to suggest the same, one set of legal plates, and another set of plates to put on after the test.

Also, it tends to be newer cars that have these illegal plates. Untill these are 3 years old they dont need to be tested, and most likely by then the car will be back on its original legal plates with the new owner. I dont really see it making any difference to the ones we already see.

“For accurate eyewitness accounts and to ensure enforcement cameras work, it is necessary that the registration conforms to the required standard.”

In plain english they are having problems catching law breakers with mobile cameras, anpr, specs and other automatic camera devices (e.g. congestion charging). Looks like its gonna be a case of two sets for some people on here.

A spokesman for the Association of Chief Police Officers was keen to stress that these powers will not be directed at those who change plates for style reasons, although such drivers could be penalised under less harsh construction and use regulations

The question we have to ask is it going to be worth the hassle if plod start to take more of an interest.

I personally don't fancy getting pulled on a daily basis because they take exception to a small styling change.

I was after a set of pressed plates, Which, Although are a different font, Are still legible.

Living near Edinburgh with it's new Traffic flow monitoring system, With ANPR fitted to numerous traffic lights we can expect the authorities to take more of an interest.

we've had at least 2 vehicles in for MOTs in the last 2 weeks which would have failed, one of the owners had the correctly spaced plates in the boot and were fitted for the test , the other had to have plates made up for the test

i think this is a good idea , to clamp down on these dodgy plates , lets face it , most of the letters and numbers have been changed to make them read something they're not

re the changng of plates for the MOT, then changing back to the dodgy plates , if you get pulled for the plates, all you'll probably be doing is causing trouble for the MOT testing station and tester if the vehicle was recently tested

and if you don't want to get done for speeding or any other crime , don't do it

:sofahide: :sofahide: :sofahide:

of course the government could be shooting itself in the foot , what with the DVLA selling all the plates every year so people can manipulate the spacing to make them read whatever

so what about the "or respective alternative European standard" part of the legislation then?

All the MOT testers do is test the vehicle as it arrives to them - what happens to the vehicle after that isn't their responsibility.

In any case, if the 1981 Austin Montego has more rust on it that straight panels and no exhaust but was MOT'd yeserday... it's probably fair to say that the MOT tester didn't do a very good job.

But a 2003 Fabia VRS on European plates the day after? Not sure if it's the same kettle of fish...

Whoops. Mine will fail as it has a Skoda emblem on alongside the GB sticker, and the 3d font is not acceptable as won`t be my website addy in teeny weeny writing at the bottom. Glad i kept the original plates and fitted these with screws. Bet a lot of regular Joes are gonna fail Mot`s for these reasons.

mine is all legal apart from the absence of that gay code and the maker... but I could probably make up a sticker and wack that on underneath

Don't know if you'll get away with that. Maker postcode means it's tracable and the 'gay' code needs to be incorporated into the manufacture of plate to confirm it complies

AFAIK

well im getting some german pressed metal plates made up soon. they are will be normal german plates, spaced to the german layout. my vectra has opel badges so im just staying with the theme, and it means they are somthing different without breaking the law (hopefully!)

unfortuently the plates on the roomster will have to remind boring!!
