remapping...warrenty??

Featured Replies

hey folks,

lately i've been looking at other cars, ( i have a fabia vrs) the three i have tested so far were the fiesta ST, Clio 182 and the Civic type r. the fiesta was nice but didn't really think it was much quicker than the fabia and certainly wouldn't change that fabia for one, the clio was quick, everything about it was good, but in the back of my head i'm thinkin HAIRDRESSER!!? the type r was my favourite and just goes and goes, however after each test drive i got back in my car and it didn't feel slow, and i didn't think "this is ****" i thought bloody hell i'm doing 80 already and i can't hear a thing, effortless, oh and i'm in a diesel (CHEAP!):)

this has made me want to keep it:D:thumbup:

however i'm thinkin about remappin it... i'm thinkin this will with out a doubt void(shaft) my warrenty?

am i rite?

i have yet to speak to my skoda dealler about the matter.

whats yours said?

cheers, Stu.

You would invalidate any item which suffers damage as a result of the remap. So it's not a complete wipe out.

Yes it will.

Get a dragon tuning box as a temporary fix... easily removeable and LOADS of :) per £.

Deffo reccomend one. Not as refined as a remap but brilliant value for money

a remap is not detectable by a dealer, they will only know if you tell them.

We do a lot of remaps for Audi dealers who dont want to drive around in standard cars, we do 3 or 4 every couple of months, they sell them on and then we do the next lot.

Unless they have VAG-COM .... or any other diagnostic tool ... or they drive the car ;)

Have a search on here and you will find loads of info about mapping ;)

You should be ok as loads on here have mapped and still have warranty.

I know a SEAT dealer who will get your car mapped ready for collection

the driving ill give you that, but the flash counter gets taken back by one when we upload the map, so they think its still on the same amount of updates.

Why would you look at the flash counter? Much better looking at other blocks to see the actual difference ;)

I must admit Ben that for somone who is in the trade that is a bit of a rash statement.

Of course they'll know, as already pointed out, unless it's a switchable they'll know straight away.

I doubt many techs would bother to look at MBV's unless they specifically wanted to find something out and if Skoda really wanted to they'd have the ECU checked out.

they would have to really want to find out to spend all that time and money to check if its been mapped!

Exactly what I am saying, I very much doubt anyone is interested in checking MBV's or comparing the Hex on the ECU but a short drive will reveal all. If it wasn't immediately obvious on test drive then nobody would have them done would they.

I would remove my registration from my Avatar and sig if I was you.

If they've got to pay the price for a new turbo, I think two minutes on a laptop won't kill them. Plus, they still have to find the fault.

no problem on a vrs i know it happened on!;)

Although if I remember correctly that owner did make one or two bold statements on here before going on to have the post deleted :P;)

No I didn't think you would, I expect your friend might recall it though :D:rofl:

some dealers encourage remapping but you have to know which ones. I am not going to say some which happily do it for you but they are out there

Registration? what Registration?

i agree:thumbup:

thanks for your thoughts people:orb_cool:

I just bought my car a few weeks ago. While i was at the dealers i asked about getting it remapped and they said there was 2 things i could do.

1. Buy a 'plug in & play' tuning box from them or

2. Take the car to star performance and they would remapp the car.

The dealer said that the car would still have its warrenty whichever 1 i chose.

Can you say which dealer this was? If not can you PM me please with the details.

Does anyone else know of a dealer that will honour the warranty on a remapped car? I seem to remember something about this coming up a while back.

Ye it was graeme p chatham in dunfermline. I also checked this out with a diffrent dealer in dundee & they said the same thing. its under skoda warrenty as long as you use the products that skoda has autherised. E.G star performence ''chip, remapp''.

I would get in touch with your local dealer & see what they say.

Skoda UK have endorsed Star Performance remaps?
