Fabia VRS "Recalls/Faults"

Featured Replies

Hi All,

This there an area on this forum that lists all the recalls/faults in one post/area.

Something you could print off and take in to the dealer?

I would like to be able to take the car in to the dealers with a definitve list.

Thanks in advance

There isn't really as yet but it's something that I've been pondering for a while. So as a kick start to myself I'll make this a sticky and ask all to make comments on their experiances. Once we have a decent list I'll tidy it up and make it a sticky.

stutter

leaky rear door seals

vibrating / rattling gear lever in neutral

knocking noise from front left of vehicle (gear box mount?) when going over bumps

etc!

Sticky clutch

Also a secondary stutter - can't remember the cause of this though

Shuddery tickover at idle. = Seem to have cured mine with a new air filter

Mooing brakes when reversing = Seems to be the pads moving in the calipers. Will try different pads when due. 06 plate car.

Paint peeling at the join on the front bumper.

I'll do suspension as this is one major problem with the Heavy Nosed vRS.

  • Front console bushes are very weak, most people replace these with up- rated solid cupra ones. part number is 6LL 407 183 and they are available from seat dealers.
  • Front Anti roll bars are also a weak point. Its not the bar that fails its the small colars that break away from the bar enabling the bar to rock sideways and knock.
  • Front ARB drop links are also very weak, mine last me 10k and are very easy to replace, symtoms include high speed unstabilty and knocking when cornering.
  • Most Vrs's will pull towards the kurb and love the tracks on the slow lane of the motorway where lorrys have left rutts. Nothing you can do to erradicate this but a full wheel alignement (sp) will improve this, see places like awesome gti and jabbasport etc.

If anyone can think of any more suspension problems please post them

Leaking rear screen wash pipes, made my rear seat turn pink when mine popped off. :(

Ok I will add one

Seat belt does not seem to lock if you brake hard ie in a emergency, you actually have to wind it back to lock it. Taking this back to the garage to be looked at soon

I think that's probably specific to your vehicle as opposed to a general fault affecting a lot of vehicles.:)

Fuel sender seems to be quite common as well.

1 month old VRS, should have read this before buying!

Rattles/vibrates when accelerating, ?dashboard loose? funny sound when engaging clutch for first bit of acceleration, fuel guage seems to jump, rattle from suspension front left side

Engine stutter, already been in for fix!! didn't cure it at all.

Thats after only 1 month ? does it get worse from here on?

I came across one this morning and had to call Skoda Assist. Loose connection on starter motor caused car not to start! (Not really a big surprise that it wouldn't start without it). Problem caused by a loose nut that sits under a plastic cover. My concern was how much had to be stripped off the car for the from RAC Mechanic to reach it.

If you search Google, there a web site which list safety recalls for all cars, sorry can't remember the URL though.

Recall site is on VOSA -

VOSA - Vehicle Recalls

Or you can call Skoda on 08457 745 745 give them your reg and they'll tell you if your car is affected and even if they have been done.Surprised me just how pleasant and efficient the system is.

good thread, I'll list mine, none of which were solved even after 2 months of messing with the official dealers in my country (Croatia):

- sticky clutch - someone mentioned it already, the clutch pedal is all mushy and won't fully engage until almost fully released and causes a sudden jerk

- gearbox "seized" - dunno what happened here, the clutch was fully pressed down, the gear leaver was in first gear and the car was going forward, trying to get the leaver into neutral was hard. seems the clutch was engaged the whole time somehow! I reckon it's a hydraulic problem.

- suspension broke down, the car is all over the road - exactly as someone mentioned above, totally unresponsive feel, like every wheel has a mind of its own. no one knows what is wrong with the car, everyone who tries it says it's ok, but it's not; it was excellent until an idiot almost killed me making me hit a ditch beside the road at 150km/h, something cracked under the front left side and from there on...... I even had the steering rack changed under warranty, done optics about 3 times, changed 3 sets of tyres, two sets of alloys, the whole suspension was "inspected thoroughtly" and everything is "fine"

- cracking noise when going over bumps in a bend

- slight engine shaking when idling

- stock bushes were replaced with cupra ones only when the wheels were almost on the point of "falling off", stupid retarded dealers...

- rear head rests squeak abnormaly loud while idling

- and counting

What ****es me off the most (pardon my French) that both the official dealers in my town and Skoda CZ act like I'm an idiot and that all of the above mentioned are "never ever before seen/heard faults" and that I'm the "first one" with these problems. C'mon, tens of thousands of RS Fabias out of the factory and not a single one had ANY of these problems, only when a turbocharger blows??? C'mon...

ALL of the above happened on three other Fabia RS-es (only one didn't have the seized gearbox), with mine that makes 4 (FOUR) Fabia vRS-es with serious factory defects that no one is taking the blame for!

hi ive just bought a fabia vrs o5 plate and jus wonderd if i should start worring about these faults

hi ive just bought a fabia vrs o5 plate and jus wonderd if i should start worring about these faults

most of these you will never notice if you buy a used one, with all of these you can drive around for thousands of miles with no problem... but that's like 70% of what the car can do :-(

I have an issue with my 3rd brake light might be a bad earth or the light or??? not fixed it yet don't no if this is something a dealer would fix, would they????

very similar to me although the wire came out of the plug on the starter motor this morning, the Skoda Assist/RAC guy suggested this is a common thing and there is a revised wiring loom which has a slightly longer cable going into the plug. he took the plug off and added a spade connector i think as a temporary fix, said it was awkward to get into and i might hear some swearing

either way its going into my dealer to be fixed tomorrow.

Ha nice to find this forum . We bought Fabia \TDI54 plate last year with only 20K miles on it . It has been back to garage 6+ times some serious faults some not so. It's a shame as it is a lovely car to drive ,I do agree with the comment about the Skoda dealers' attitude . I have been treated a asa silly little women until I pointed out the number of times It has been back . He saiud it had won loads of awards my respnse was not this one suspect it was a friday afternonn build!.

Faults petol cap fult can't remember if it didn't lock or unlock.

Washer pip came out X2

Rear washer - no water--- in the Skaoda garage now.

Leaking door seals -- all 4 seals.

electronics problem to do with on of the fuses.

All these necessitated a day in garage.

Most seriouus was a problem with the warning lights coming on varoius ones . Garage couln't dteet an actual problem with any system . They eventually had to have car for 4 days , contacted Skofda CZ no joy ther . Had to strip off all the linings and found 2 wires touching sometning to do with computer feedback system.

I felt vindicated because they more orl ess implied I was imagining all this and the warning lights were coming on to indicate braking probs. etc ,pretty serious stuff .

Luckily I did negoiate another years' warranty when we bought car so all covered to date but it worries me that a nearly new car( for us) has been so problematic and what might happen in future. In Less than a year it has been off the road for 2_ weeks and we have a very low mileage 0nly 8k this year.

Oh man...I wish I hadn't read this. I'm off to collect my '04 vRS tomorrow from the dealership...

,,,,and am now fretting over breakdowns, front ARBs etc....

at least Platinum Skoda in Bath has got top marks on Briskoda.

Can anyone give a guy some comfort?

You'll be fine. Generally a pretty reliable motor.

Keep an eye out I'll be in your neck of the woods tomorrow

I'm still with my '04 vRS and nothing has really gone wrong with it yet*

*touching holy wooden surfaces with every last appendage

Again, if you buy a used one, you won't notice anything! Everything will seem perfectly fine, but when you had the car from day 1, and 0km, then you know what the car should be.

Now I'm telling you that what you will be getting is like 70% of what the car is supposed to be!!
