Indicator indicates 3 times

Featured Replies

Hi

I bought a Dec 06 Fabia last month which I am very happy with apart from one "design feature".

When I push the indicator stick all the way in to the click position, the indicators behave as expected.

But when I just touch the indicator without clicking it all the way, for example when changing lane on a motorway, it does not behave as expected - most cars indicate and stop when you release the indicator stalk, but the Skoda indicates 3 times.

At first I wasn't sure if I loved this or hated it, but now I have decided I really hate it. Is there any way I can stop it doing this?

I am sure someone must have asked this before, but I didn't see anything when searching - although I am not sure exactly what to search on to describe this "problem"...

Thanks in advance.

Ben

P.S. - Don't know if all Skodas do this, or just those here in Poland?

Ah, the good old 1-touch indicators. Yeah all of the facelift Fabias do it and most other new cars, looking around. Think they can be disabled using VAG-COM, but I'll let one of the techies clarify :D

I agree with this... I loved 'em..... but I believe they can be disabled with VAGCOM too

its the good old eu legislation again. All new cars do this by default now, however it can be turned off by your dealer or someone with vag-com. I personally like them, they took some getting used to though.

Mine is a '55 plate and will indicate 3 times if I just touch the indicator stalk. If however I push the stalk up and keep the pressure on for a few seconds WITHOUT it clicking all the way on, then it will stop flashing as soon as I release the pressure.

Have you tried that?

Does this even make sense!?!

You think the one touch is bad on a fabia? Try a new shape Vectra!

Pretty sure aswell it can be disabled, tried a search?

Hannibal: 20 Owners have gone running outside to try that technique :D

BMW one touch indicators are awefull!!

I like the Fabia ones though as they operate as normal indicators for normal driving then you just touch em on the motorway and 3 clicks is great for changing lanes

Brilliant idea i think, mines is an 04 with them, must have been lucky

mine has them as well...and i love the feature! 04 plate vRS

the vauxhall ones are faultless adn work brilliantly, just as long as you know how to use them.

i had an astra for a week in spain and found the one touch indicators on it brilliant :)

on the motorway and 3 clicks is great for changing lanes

3 clicks seems too few to me.....

Chris

i found the corsa ones to be a pain in the ****, much prefer the octy ones!!

All depends on how you drive really, i kindov 'bash on' when im on the motorway so its only really changing into and out of the fast lane etc! (80-85mph - which i believe is reasonable and not silly)

Suppose it depends on how busy the M'Way is aswell, where i live the M'Way is pretty empty most of the time :)

All depends on how you drive really

Certainly does, although as a slow old driver I like to give 5 flashes of the indicator so I have a chance to gauge people's reactions before I move out. If there's no traffic around, I don't bother signalling :D

Chris

I hate them and have just disabled them.

With Vag-Com;

Select 'central electronics'

Adaption

Channel 6- should be set to 3. Change it to 0.

I disables the PITA extra wipe after using the washers too. I'd learned to live with it but a long trip with me and SWMBO sharing the drive convinced me.

The indicator feature I have learned to like over time but that extra wipe after using the washers does my nut! :thumbdwn:

I can't see what the problem is ! The Vauxhaul system (I drove an Astra for a short while) is awful and significantly different to normal indicators, those I have a BIG problem with. On the Fab, mirrors/blindspot/touch up and by the third flash I'm in lane and sorted. My learners are told early on, if they catch the stalk by accident to leave it alone and it will stop, but it does confuse them a little at first. Then again, the electric windows confuse some of them too

Hi, thanks everyone, that is great. I hadn't heard of vag-com before but just looked it up on their website.

I will take the car to somewhere with vag-com and get them to change it.

Are there any other useful settings on a fabia (dec '06) that I might want to change at the same time?

Thanks again.

Ben

I think it's a great featrure and really miss it when I drive 'er indoors' Jazz. Each to his own, though.

Well when I first got the car I thought "oh, that's useful", but because I live in the countryside I often just want to give the indicator one flash, for example just when moving out a fraction for a bicycle etc.. Or for example yesterday I was going to turn right but then changed my mind and wanted to go straight - in that situation I think it's a bit dangerous for it to continue to blink when I don't want it to....

Try Skoda Fabia (6Y) - Ross-Tech Wiki

for starters, and have a look in the VAG-COM forum on this site too.

I like them but 5 flashes would be better, but that may confuse younger drivers :)

i only use indicators on motorways if someone else can benefit from them ;)

just put your indicators on properly if you dont like it, sorted

i like em good touch IMO

They are a nice feature but I find the 3 flash thing annoying when I'm trying to thank drivers behind me for letting me join a lane.

(Old skool style of flashing opposite indicators for a thanks. ie overtaking, indicate right, get flashed to pull out, pull out and join lane then once left, once right, once left. If that makes any sense)
