Featured Replies

hi

i was woundering if anyone could give me some ideas on what i could do about the grip on my octavia vrs in first gear, i had a race with a leon yesterday and i could not get away quick enough, i have 4 continential tyres (not sure if thats spelt right:rolleyes:) all good tread, i have heard about these replacement dog bone bush mounts, are they any good!!

or any other recommendations would be helpful:thumbup:

tbh mate you will pretty much always get wheel spin in first.

Dog mount will help as might some new tyres.

Also on another note if you were against a cupra r you would have had no chance as they are 225 bhp

Ditching the Conti's would be a good first step, imvho!

Chris

Did you have ASR off?

Had wheelspin at 60mph in 2nd on a damp road last week :eek:

A vRS Octy, even standard, will spin on a dry road in 1st no problem :D:D

I would make sure wishbone bushes arn't split, changing the split ones on mine made a big difference. Uprated bushes/suspension may also be worth looking at too.;)

Something with a softer compound would be better to help keep the grip, also worth checking your shock absorbers are not worn as they play a part in ensuring the tyre stays in contact with the black stuff..........

thanks guys, reakon i will get some new tyres some yokomos will be good!

try the old finger nail test and give the tyre a good push to see how hard it was. I had some budget one's once and they were like rocks, lasted ages but never gripped at all, (well not much anyway)

You could stick some wider 225/45s on for added grip too, Im using the F1s, great tyres.

A more delicate right foot perhaps i.e. feed power in rather than simply planting it?

The 225/45/zr17's will certainly help as will a decent dog bone engine bush. The standard car should be ok traction-wise with these fitted.

First post in the octy forum! Just thought i'd say my standard 1.4 Fabia spins in 1st... I shouldn't worry about it. A dogbone mount will help but will increace vibes in the cabin... also a set of Toyos will sort out the grip issue.

Duggie.

Modifying your driving style will also help. side step the clutch instead of dropping it. Do some practice launches to see what rpm gives the best getaway

Get an Octy 4x4, mines now 356 bhp & no wheel spin :D:D

Re tyres If you can stretch to it try some Toyo R888's Fantastic grip but they only last a few thousand miles, also tend to aquaplane in standing water but in all other conditions they are stunning Toyo Tire
