Octy vRS Shopping List Following Brunters

Featured Replies

Other than new tyres.... New driver who's not scared of evil corners.....

My greenstuff pads held out so think I'll stick with these for a while, however me thinks some upgraded brake fluid would be a welcome addition since my brake pedal developed somewhat further travel than previously experienced.

H&R coil overs worked well so I'm happy with the suspension, some clonks from the front end around some of the corners though - roll bar bushes under load perhaps! Would a front upper and lower brace keep the steering more precise - not that this was a problem the car went where it was pointed, only the driver could be bothered to point it in the correct direction on occasions  .

Engine - marvellous not much improvement need there (blimey, those Seats went like pooh off a shovel  )

Interior - seats: I was hanging on to the steering wheel for dear lift, need racing seats to accommodate my slim frame, or need to visit the burger van more often.

All in all, well impressed with the car, no dramas (other than overcooking things on a couple of occasions), no oversteering, no front wash out understeer either. Just like my instruct said (though I didn't believe him) "brake as hard as you can, turn into the corner then floor it and drive the car out". As the day went on  turned to :D

My shopping list, 1 new Michelin Pilot Sport tyre for the passenger front side. Still legal but has about 1/3 of the tread as the other 3 now.

Track wheels with some slicks for me...

oh, and maybe a teensy bit more power ;)

I was very happy with how my car did. Was the 1st time ive taken it on track but boy did it go well!! I even had flames (with no flamer kit i might add :D )

KW3's (Linear springs...natch ;)

Exhaust. Probably a Milltek, but open to suggestion.

Slicks....mmmmm maybe ;)

Leeboy was watching you going round and round all day long. Suprised your tyres are intact!

I think "nicely scrubbed in" is a fair description :D

"Slow in, Fast out"..

James Hunt always described his cornering style that way, if it was good enough for him...

;)

In no particular order

1. brakes (group N + braded hoses and decent fluid)

2. KW V3

3. Full turbo back system with sports cat.

4. CAI

5. Boost gauge

6. set of spare wheels with slicks

7. upper/lower strut braces

8. poly bushes throughout

I might be waiting a while (unless lottery win is prevailing)

Dan,

don't think you need the braided hoses, IIRC the RS has reinforced hoses already.

:agree:

More power and some adjustable KW's. Even though mine is standard i still had a f***ing great time :D .

I was surprised how good a condition my front left is in, now it's had a chance to cool down. It was blistering like a good'un on the day but it seems to have gone back to its normal shape now, and although a bit worn tread is still there, in some form ;)

If I really had to think of something to add to my car it would probably be:

Uprated bushes.

Slick tyres would be nice, but not necessary for me.

Brakes. need new hubs/carriers/calipers/discs/pads... very expensive, but NIIIIICE!

"Proper" driving gloves. Those bike ones proved useless, so ditched them

New clutch. I have a feeling standard ones on PD100s aren't up to lots of trackdays. If my little graunching is serious, I may upgrade that with a replacement.

Better track sense. I was trying too much to be polite to other quicker cars and not concentrating enough on my driving. I give thanks to those cars I indicated to go past but held back to allow me back on to the racing line and to corner better.

Speaking of tyres

They're still legal!!!(Must try harder next time:D)

Well, it wasn't a race...

Well - everyone was very nice. I think Easytrack observed this too. It's a bit hard to tell how quick these 200BHP+ cars were hurtling up behind me, so I was keen to move over. I should have had more confidence to stay out there. ;)

I was told off by the instructor for letting someone past between T1 and T2 during my instructor-led laps - he said I should have held my line. I wasn't bothered - I'll always let someone faster go by. It's fun to follow them then, and if they're any good, learn from their lines...

Amazing how difficult it was with no centre mirror too - door mirrors are hard work with a helmet on.

Thats a point. The instructor left my centre mirror alone. Still find it funny when the instructor said "brake....harder.....HARDER" :D

My conclusion is I think a group buy for a set of wheels and slicks is in order. You either compromise your cornering and ruin your road tyres or change to dedicated track tyres/wheels like Colin did. Don't know who it was but someone had an Oct vRS with some old Michelin slicks and said it flew past the others round the bends.

Chris

Found a chip in the windscreen but lucky for me ;) im having it replaced due to being chipped when i bought it. Oh and Thanks to Colin for the loan of your trolley jack.

shame it isnt the Turbo back exhaust with sports cat and KW suspension it comes with!!!! still you are right, the braided hose savings gets you drunk to forget how much you have to spend :D

off to check piggy bank...............

piggy bank says no feckin chance

driving standards were good all day.... only had to "deal" with a couple of cars and the supras were giving as good as they got.....

My shopping list is most definitely starting with a Jabba remap. Really enjoyed it out there but it was seriously depressing when cars indicated in front to let me go past ..... and despite furious peddling I didn't have the grunt to get past on the straights  Mind you i was very impressed with how the car went given that it is completely standard and the fact that the brakes handled it pretty well.

Had great fun trying to keep up with you Leeboy - at one point we seemed to have a convoy of Yellow RSs in our group
