Bugger.. beat me to it!

Loads of new features.. the most important being Demand paging, which means the phone has 26mb upwards of free ram instead of 12-15mb.... you N95 8gb owners can stuff it :P

More info HERE

Changes in the new firmware

* New Welcome application

* New camera software and tweaks from the 8GB model - FAR faster shot to shot time, with 'Processing image message' during any delays. I suspect the image processing algorithms have changed too, to remove some of the remaining artificial edge enhancement in the v12 firmware.

* Long press on camera button launches camera if shutter is open

* New My Nokia SMS tips and mobile web portal system

* Demand paging (for ROM applications) with 30 plus MB free RAM after booting.

* Search 4.0 integration on standby screen.

* Old multimedia menu still there, i.e. it's not the new style

* N-Gage game previews (FIFA, Asphalt) and portal/shortcut to upcoming N-Gage client, as in N81 and N95 8GB

* Nokia Music Store client, although the store server hasn't been updated to handle the N95 yet - maybe this'll happen later today

* Keypress bug gone(!), I think

* No auto-screen rotation, looks like I was wrong predicting this, so we need Samir's RotateMe after all - someone please help him get this signed ASAP!

* Assorted other minor tweaks, along the same lines as the N95 8GB, with video ringtones, theme animations and a Circles Music Player visualisation.

Mine is on O2 contract but no evidence of branding (O2 logos etc) is that what unbranded means ? :o

Yup

plug it in and see if it sees a new firmware for ya

Now the last time I upgraded the firmware, I did a full back up, but then when I restored the settings to the phone I lost all the installed Apps and I lost a few contacts which were stored in the phone memory.

This meant I had to mess about contacting quickoffice for a re-install of their software and try and search for a few other apps that had been deleted.

Is this a fault, or do apps not get backed up when you install new firmware?

Apps that are on the phone mem *should* be brought back with a backup/restore

apps stored on the mem card *should* re-install when the phone re-boots.

Im taking the opportunity for a fresh start, fresh phone and fresh mem card.. ill get contacts back from outlook. - its reccomended to do this because of the big leap in fw versions

Also.. the GPS is MUCH MUCH MUCH faster

Just started nokia maps whilst sat in my room, and it got a lock within about 20 seconds

OK I'm sold now....

Edit: anyone know where I can get a cheap mahoosive MC for the N95. Got 2GB just now....

Just tried this but the phone won't update, saying I've got the latest version already. Just put a Vodaphone sim into it and it fired up fine so the phone is obviously unlocked. Any ideas?

Clicky

(cheaper sources may be available, but make sure its either sandisk or kingston)

I have a 6gb sandisk one at the moment... the main thing to note...make sure its a class 4 or better!

my old 4gig was a class 2 and this new one is MUCH faster (talking over 10mb/sec transfer vs 3-4mb on the class 2)

Just because its unlocked doesnt mean its unbranded..

you will either need to change the product code of the phone with NSS (invalidates warranty) or wait until the network releases their customised version.

i've just changed my product code so i can do this update( i did this before to get .13) and its a bloody big download!! 114.9Mb!

ohwell its downloading now :)

backed up my phone using both the onboard phone backup and the pcsuite backup.

How slow is Nokia Content Copier? Grrrr!

EDIT: Firmware installed! It's noticably faster and there are a few easter eggs(or whatever they're called) on there. The multimedia menu boots up in no time!

I have icons for Coreplayer, Lightsaber and BT keyboard but no software. Boo Hoo, I loved my Coreplayer, it will be sadly missed!

Hmmm, something for later this week me thinks...

Too late now :)

My updated one seems to be going just fine, the home network support is much better because you can now stream upnp data to your phone, whereas before you had to send it to a upnp renderer.
