will be putting my figures up for the last week tonight my averegae for the week was 36.3

You need to reset the long run trip 2 it looks at the last 2000 miles.

#2 is the info for the time untill the "driven time" #2 is rest/rolls over back to 0

My best over a tank full was 47mpg, worst 18mpg and average over 10k, 41mpg all from calculations as the fuel meter was random.

Using the 'brim the tank and work it out to the decimal point' method, i tend to average around 43. To round it up, over a whole tankfull, it has ranged from 31mpg (hard use) to 44 mpg (going really easy on it, REALLY EASY). i find this quite frankly pityfull as i was rather hoping that it would be in the high 40's to early 50's on a regular tankfull.

We have only just got 400 miles from a tank and no more and that was only the once. It usually is around 350.

The comp regularly reads into the 60's and is very optimistic leading to an AMAZING range figure when you fill up - that doesnt last!

The car has a star performance re-map with 177bhp and 295 lb ft.

Our vrs returns 30-32mpg in mostly city driving. we have tried driving like a granny keeping revs right down but the consumption hardly varies compared to normal use. on a long run at 50-60mph on A roads, the best we have achieved is 53mpg. Have changed the air filter since it was a bit dirty but the consumption hasn't improved. This car may have great performance but it's economy is C**p compared to our other family car, an Octavia 90 tdi. The Octavia averages 42mpg in the city doing lots of short journeys, often from cold starts and easily gets into the low 60's mpg on motorway runs at 70-75mph and the same on A roads keeping to speed limits.

Change the air filter :)

 :P :D

My average of 40.000kms is 6,5 l/100km (43mpg).

That is combined consumption, normal use with occasional hammering:D

I'm not sure how some (actually mainly one or two ;) )of you can get such low figures  I generally get 44 - 49mpg (brim-to-brim method), thats with a dragon tuning box, a 15k old air filter and plenty of enthusiastic driving ;)

Those with poor economy should try driving with the revs higher (at least 2k), and stop nannying it. Low revs seem to equal low economy

We will keep the revs up over 2k on our next tankful and report back on this theory.

Since I last posted my MPG update in this thread, I've discovered the following:

Driving with the RPM between 1500 and 3000 RPM (mostly between 1500 and 2100), and using 5th gear for anything below 50mph (rather than 6th), my car will very easily return between 55MPG and 60MPG, even in the hilly terrain we have in Herefordshire/Worcestershire...

Town driving, if done carefully, returns 51MPG or 52MPG....the tip is to avoid stop/starting and to try to travel at one constant speed (even if it is a crawl)

A general rule of thumb is if the acceleration isn't free and the engine is "groaning", you're in too low a gear and would be burning far less fuel if you dropped a gear... despite popular belief being in as high a gear as possible and revving as little as possible does not actually mean your car returns the best economy

I've found using 5th gear from say 35mph will get the mpg up, getting 42 -45 to the gallon at the min.

I used to drive around at 30mph in 5th gear and I got around 45mpg in town.

It's not just down to driving style but also how long your journeys are and diesels really don't start becoming that economical until they're warmed up. This means that in the winter months if you do lots of short journeys or leave the car idling while you scrape the ice off then economy takes a real hammering.

Chris

Won't the engine management computer mean that everyone's MPG will be very different as it 'learns' your driving style and adjust accordingly?

Thats very true, sometimes my vrs only gets about 32-33mpg on my journey to work which is ten minutes drive but lately it has been getting 38 since I last filled up, I guess this is down to my driving style at the moment, going accross town last night I got 40mpg and that was stop start journeys.

Quick update on the latest tank of fuel - 460 miles with 40 miles left on computer - Shell Dieseal with Millers stuff and 75% motorway driving.

Not unhappy with that at all! :)

I would not complain about that either.

As far as I understood from Platinum Skoda in Bath ( they great Briskoda reviews, and I concur) when you buy a new Skoda or used from a dealership, the Engine Management is reset and takes about 2 weeks to learn how you drive before it (in his words) "beds in" and pretty well keeps the settings.

A Toyota dealer told me that if you drive like Miss Daisy to begin with, the EM will (and someone do correct me here, not an expert by any means) keep the engine slightly over-revved (or something) to keep it going. If you thrash it as the EM settles in the EM will keep revs in reserve for the more demanding driver. The upshot is that if you thrash it to begin with, and then settle down after 2 weeks, then the EM will give you better MPG.

....does that make sense?

If your MPG is pants, then it might well be worth the effort to have your EM reset.

Last tank got me 452miles of mostly 9mile trips to and from work with an overall calculated efficiency (brim-to-running on vapour :D) of 45.8mpg. The trip comp wasn't too far off with 46.4mpg.
