cheers for that should book it in v soon now then

Yea, get the waterpump done as well :)

Mine was £290 from skoda for the belt + waterpump.

Don't forget a new tensioner.

thats not a bad price from skoda. in that case i think awesome are more expensive they are 295 +vat

Yea was good, got the tensioner done for that too.

Impressed with my local skoda, £190 for a full 60k service (not cambelt/waterpump) and MOT.

:)

but did skoda fit a water pump with a metal impeller?awesome do ;)

i never get bored of posting this

mine after circa 60,00 miles.it fell apart on removal

In theory they should have fixed this problem by now.The pumps have been revised more times than i change me undies :D.

They are still plastic though:confused:

I rang 2 0f my local skoda garages for prices for a cambelt and a 3rd or 60k service and been quoted different prices by both one was £260 for a service and £287 for cambelt and the other one was £350 for service and £400 for cambelt. why is it a good idea to get water pump done and how much approx would one cost???

I had this as well, the price quoted wasn't the price I payed tho. It ended up being cheaper.

The cambelt iirc needs to be removed to install the waterpump so it makes sense to have them done at the same time... also broken waterpump = big bills!

You can get a metal one from gsf for like £35 I think... not sure on the part number tho.

£260 for a 60k service sounds a little high... £287 for cambelt isn't too shabby. Just make sure it include the kit, not just the cambelt :)

cheers that makes a bit more sense now lol. just getting use to finding bits out about the vrs as never had a turbo before so any info gathered been a big help.

and what is a tensioner? sorry if a silly question

Its as it says, it a device that provides tension to the cambelt - and is something that needs changing over time (best to do it with the cambelt change ) :)

Bought my cambelt kit from GSF Car Parts, and my metal impeller pump from water-pumps.org specifically for the Golf 1.8Turbo

VW Golf Mk4 1.8 Water Pumps - VW Golf Mk4 1.8 Water Pump metal - £25 inc VAT :) - all in a good deal and well worth doing.

cheers for that info

As said, get a METAL waterpump, mine was worse than Jason`s picture posted above after just 53k, half of the impellor had broken off!!

My local Skoda guy hinted that after-market metal pump is preferred on petrol models but he still fits latest Skoda plastic ones to diesels.

As your in Guildford, are you aware of the Rolling Road day on 2nd Feb at JKM in Portsmouth, which is only just down the road from you.

As there should be quite a large turn out, why not come down and meet some of the forum members and see how you can become poor by tuning your Octy vRS ...LOL

cheers for telling me about that i will come down and have a look and meet you guys and girls. i know what u mean been looking at tuning parts already, and i think the bank manager might become my best friend this year lol have you got an address for jkm and a time?

cheers

I got parts from my local skoda gar today cambelt kit and water pump for €130 and have to hand back the old pump for skoda to re-use the caseing...

So chaps, if I wanted an independent to do my Cambelt and water pump, all I'd need to give them would be :

- Cambelt kit eg: the one on GSF

- Water pump (metal impellor)

No other seals, gaskets etc required?

My Mk1 vRS is coming up 4 years old in July - only 36k on the clock though and I've found a decent independent. I've heard getting the cambelt done can be expensive, so I'd like to use the guy I found, if I can get him the right parts.

So GSF have:

12986 CAM BELT KIT OCTAVIA 1.8 97>04 97>04 AGN/AGU/AUM/AUQ

and for the water pump:

17062 WATER PUMP OCTAVIA 1.8/2.0

Though it doesn't say if its the metal impellor though the one mentioned previously for the Golf 1.8T GTi does have the same engine code as my RS, so presumably would be the one for the job VW Golf Mk4 1.8 Water Pumps - VW Golf Mk4 1.8 Water Pump metal

That all thats needed? Overall the parts are reasonably cheap - guess the cost comes in with the labour...

the water pump that awesome fitted to my vrs was from a 225 1.8T audi TT which iirc is a BAM engine.

Yep I went independent, and that's what I gave them (cambelt kit and water pump) and nothing else.

And the Golf 1.8T Water Pump (Metal Impeller) above was the correct one (shares the same engine code as the vRS) :)
