shame about the company though, we had nothing but trouble with them, service wise and with customer service, not to mention billing

I have had a completely opposite experience bizarre how their customer experience seems to vary so much?????

Hmm. sounds interesting.

Anyone know what the upload bandwidth will be for 1.5mbps? Will it improve over the current approx 250kbps or will the added 500mbps be for download only?

Having said that, they needed to do it. After the recent 8.5% increase in the 1mb cost, I was investigating moving over to dsl where, for similar costs, you can get a 2mb line...

As far as i know, upload speeds stay the same as they are.

I'm actually thinking about downgrading from 1 Meg now. 750K for

Read this the othre day, wonder when they will implement it.

Yeah it's funny that Alex, cause I'm the same as you have had no problems and any problems have been sorted out quickly which is brillaint compaired to BT and there attitude. I wonder if it depends what area your in, and what old company it used to be before it merged into NTL.

NTL are upgrading lots of things at the moment as the Cable TV is getting upgraded too and once this is implemented NTL maybe be getting another

So if us (originally 512kbps) 600kbps customers just sit tight we will all be on at least 1Mb soon - suits me!!

I was once told by an NTL engineer, that just buy the cheapest broadband if you dont "need" the extra speed.

The reason being was that if you recieve your Broadband from the TV box then the boxes have problems regulating the speed down to 125 (speed at the time) and struggle to get a consistant speed bellow 300, which would now make sense being as they have now upgraded to this speed.

I rate checked this at the time and i got varying results from 140 to 700!!

Just thought i would share this useless bit of info with you :thumbup:

Tis true, when we had 64k ages ago downloads would start at a fair rate of knots and then throttle back to 64kbps. so downloading small files was quiet rapid, same thing is true today on 600k, downloads start at 1meg plus and full back.

I'll let you into a secret ;)

Ntl 128 BB via Cable Modem was 128....

Ntl 128 BB via set-top box was always a minimum of 256. :)

Okay well, I ahem! work for the other cable company for the department that tests the cable modems and UBR's that allow you guys to recieve your Broadband services and I can assure you that your varying download speeds are not just down to what modem you are using.

There are loads of other factors that determine you bandwidth including contention ratio's of users per segment ie. how many customers your provider has using it's downstram services at any one time the UBR that serves your area, what the offnet site has at the other end that you are downloading from and of course what your docsis profile is ie. 512/128 etc

Oh yeah and lets also add a bit of RF noise into the equation as well.

If you really wanna test your profile properly you have to set up a P2P app with another on-net user that is served off the same segment as you are and watch that baby go.....

bottom line is if there are no other users on your segment your bandwith will sometimes burst over the profile parametres but watch what happens when loads of users on your street come on line and you will find your docsis profile will be pretty spot on with what you buy. :)

wanna learn more? go here: *****no actually PM me for a really good site**

Just don't tell people you got that from me.......

Hmm

Anyone had any news or noticed an improvement in speed?

Been over a month and nothing has changed in my neck of the woods. Haven't received any email from ntl either.

Hi,

I work @ ntl, at the moment I can only see three broadband offerings. 150k, 600k and 1MB.

Haven't heard anything about upgrades, but if I do...

I don't work in the residential section unfortunately, so finger is not exactly on the pulse there.

K

I believe its supposed to happen in the autumn.

It's happened :woohoo:

I've gone from a 1 Meg CM service to 1.5 :D

Check your speeds folks :)

I checked my postcode on the ntl site a few days ago and was told my upgrade had already been done.

I downloaded a 6mb file yesterday and the download rate setted at 89.0 where it was 71-ish a few days ago.

Click on this LINK to see if your postcode has been done.

EDIT: Sorry, should have said I was on 600K so now on 750.

Cheers for the link Neil  seems like I am being done this month :D

Here comes Rooboy! :gay:

Is that an offer Howard?? :naughty:

We have been upgraded for a few days now. seems to work really well.

"Congratulations your service has been upgraded. PE19 6XX was upgraded in August.

If you are a 1Mb Set top box customer ntl will be in contact with you to exchange your current box so that you can receive your 1.5Mb upgrade."

According to NTL's site my service has been upgraded  but I haven't been contacted yet about the box exchange. :( Has anyone had their box changed yet for this upgrade?

Mine's been upped. Now downloading just a tad under 200kbytes / second

No change of box - but I did only have a CM and not telly STB

Mines gone up from 600kbps to about the 720 to 740 mark. I wish we could all have had the same percentage speed increase.

ie 1 meg customers went to 1.5 meg - 50% increase

600 kbps only went up to 750 ish - only 25% increase why not to 1 meg ?
