Fabia + Kerb = Empty Wallet

Featured Replies

i had an incident today where upon hitting ice i collided with a kerb.

it happened on a side road as i was going round a bend and lost traction, i'd only driven 100yards away from the shop i was stopped at.

i'll hold my hands up and say i was going to fast for the conditions, i think i must have been doing around 15-20mph not a lot but when you hit a kerb its hard enough.

anyway heres the damage:

front wheel

Bottom Arm

Track Rod

Basically its going to cost £160+vat for parts not including the alloys.

i cant afford to buy a couple of alloys at the moment but i had a set lying at work so borrowed 2 until i can replace them.

**** happens as they say.

Trade it in like that they won't notice

i'm no longer going to be trading it in lol and the garage are well aware of the damage as thats where i ordered the parts to fix it

:)

And I thought the white one had your name on it. A blank canvas if ever I saw one. I'll have a look may have an alloy in the shed, will let you know tomorrow.

i wanted the blue vRS TDI estate but didnt have 3 grand to throw in to keep the finance company happy so the deal kinda fell through, at least til the fabia is in positive equity.

so keeping the fabia for a wee while longer and i'll probably make it a little quicker while i have it :D

I think you'll find if you stop hitting kerbs, that wee beastie will make much swifter forward progress ;)

As I said on EC bud, sorry to see this - be back up and running in no time!

sorry to see that bud, hope all is sorted soon:thumbup:

just out of interest can you buy the track rod end/arm seperate to the rest of the steering rack or did you have to buy a new rack complete?

i think its an arm complete with end, i'm sure it was the most expensive part but isn;t a complete rack.

Looks like you've done a proper job of that one.

Ha right bit like the later golfs then as i know they screw onto the end of the rack by a large collar

sorry to hear that mate, main thing is your ok.

Davy

Gutted for you mate. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Jon

Ouch that`s a bumer! That looks Really painful!!

Sorry fella

At least you didn't hurt yourself mate. Plus it gives you and excuse to get some 17/18's.

still you are better off than they guy i passed on the way home...... he hit a patch of ice in Battlefield (S Side of Glasgow) and decided to attack a lamp post with his large volvo......

not sure if the lamp post won ...... it was still standing just..... but the volvo was a write-off

make sure you get a proper 4 way alignment check , to make sure nothing else is bent , especially the rear axle/stub assembly

I don't think that there was much road gritting going on in Edinburgh this morning, I had a bad moment going round the corner up to Ravelston from Roseburn - just a bit of a four wheel slide, wakens you up a bit especially when the temperature was +3C - it must have been low at some time during the night. Look on the bright side, this would be a perfect time to get Cupra TCA rear bushes fitted as a four wheel re-alignment will now be needed anyway.

I hoe it gets sorted soon, what a bummer :(

Oh man, that pic of the cracked alloy made me wince!

Golf + ice + kerb + 7miles an hour

thats a bit of a dull one!

yeah i hit the kerb side on hence both wheels taking an impact although the back only done wheel damage. if only the front was the same

I will have 3 Fabia vRS alloys up for grabs soon (4th is kerbed deep).

1 needs new tyre. the other 2 are off the back, done 47k miles, no handbrake **** has been done. Nor sidways action. 38k miles by a lady.

Offers per wheel if you want one.

can use the 4th one to test spray if anyone wants in. (Free)

Can post TNT / Parcelforce for around £15 per wheel.
