Looking after your car ? Why bother ?

Featured Replies

Great day here. Up early. Wash and wax the car. Bit of detailing. Stand back to admire my 4 hours of work to see ....

A very nasty little dint just above the plastic moulding on the nearside passenger door on my lovely 3 month old Flamenco Estate. Yes the Flamenco shows it off just tight thanks.

Me and the missus save hard for 2 years, no nights out, no treats for us so we can afford a nice family car now we have the little 'un. And it's our last new car for some time.

Its got to last.

So a big thankyou to the lowlife #unt who slammed their door ( it must have been with some force ) into my new motor.

It jusy goes to show that no matter how careful you are with parking and believe me I am they will still get you.

Better now thats off my chest ....

Any ideas on prices to get it removed...... But is it really worth it I suppose. I'll only get another, then another ....

Thanks Basil. Tried it just in case but it's a bit too acute.

Try one of the smart repair companies like ChipsAway or Accident I used the latter for a paint free dent removal and I couldn't have told you there was one in the first place.

I hummed and hawed but decided to get it done as it would always annoy me know it was there and it would only cost about £50 to get it sorted.

HTH.

Basil, you really are a legend!

Sorry to hear about your car mate, can you claim it as vandilisum on your insurance? shouldnt loose your no claims, but may have to pay your excess :(

I paid £60 to have a car park dent removed from my door

It will do my head in. I guess i'll leave it until the Summer and have a think about getting it done then. May have picked some more up by then ...

i know the feeling, as soon as you buff the wax off, you start to notice things and get angry! just noticed a scratch on my rear door from a branch from a hedge.

although red cars are proven to get more dents...:o, so my tutor told me once.

It really hurts - the first dent on your pride and joy....

Deffo an idea to shop about for a pro dent removal place and get it sorted when time permits.

good luck matey

Yep, paintless dent removal is the way to go, circa £60. :)

It is gutting though, but worth keeping on top of imho. :)

I've come to the conclusion over the years that its not worth trying to keep a car scratch and dent free. Its just part of owning a car. If you get a dent or scratch sorted someone will just add a new one a few days/weeks/months later.

I find it helps if you park away from other cars usually at the opposite end of the car park from where the door is.

Although those parent and child spaces are good too!

Same thing here, cleaned, polished and waxed my car only to find a nice dent just above the door protector strips. Only had the car 5 months and go to great lengths to keep it scratch and swirl free.

So whoever it was - thanks. Probably caused by £300 worth of Ford Escort or similar.

It's the whole "My car is **** so I couldn't give a **** about any other car" attitude.

Although those parent and child spaces are good too!

Sorry to hear about the car. Jono are you sure about that, women tend to frequent those spaces!

It's all pot luck. Haven't you seen that TV insurance advert where the bloke parks miles from any other car and a satellite returning from space goes straight through his roof!?

Me too. Has worked so far. I also try to park near a car worth more then mine or at least a very clean one in the hope the owner will take care opening doors. I steer clear of 4x4 too they seem to think their cars are indestructible and don't give a toss about hitting other cars.

Could also have something to do with the fact that as the average size of a car has got bigger car parking spaces have not.

Now you have to touch your rub strip on the car next to you to get in and out. Previously cars were smaller and you could open the door without issue.

Yup I gave up worrying a long time ago! It's effing annoying but there is nowt you can do about it.

the problem with this pdr stuff, is that they use unprotected metal bars and rods to tease the dent out, which in turn scratches off the paint and protective waxes from the inside. I can imagine further down the line, problems with corrosion from the inside out.

I don't appear to suffer from door-dings, but I have had people (on more than one occasion, including my Octy) scrap the bumper as they try to park their own cars.

Of course, no one ever leaves a note.

As said before, I have given up worrying about it because as soon as you get one thing fixed, some other pillock will just try into it.

Have you seen them try and get a pushchair between two cars

That's a very unfair statement - I object !

Ah oh... I mean offroaders.

Oh that doesn't work either....

Well give me an easy way to quickly describe a Landcruiser not a Octy 4x4! :D
