Now now boys!

Dealers are under no obligation to rectify problems with cars if they have been modifed...

tiz like paul selling a CPU that ended up getting fried because it was overclocked? would you replace that paul?

Its nice that Some dealers are mod friendly tho. Personally in my experience with Horners bury and Horners manchester, i dont have a bad word to say about them. Both went out of their way to help me on a few occasions (oil top up and numberplate for manchester and several other bits and bobs for bury)

when the same dealer sells cars pre -chipped and has carried out warranty work on the vehicle before is it ok to change your mind?

I thought that upgrade was only available on the Zafira GSi...?

Rob.

Very Good or is it Daddy Daddy Cool ?

Well now I have stopped splitting my ribs...I'll comment...

...mod car lost warranty is my view, regardless of the dealer. Some are better than others there is no doubt. Some things can be done well, some not so. When I have had issues with my car I have gone to my dealer who I like personally and discussed it with them.

They have looked at it and done the work, fortunatly most of the work is clear cut and not related to the mods or have a known history kist, eg coils, bushes. But if somthing went bang that was related to the mods, which presently leaves the lights only (but not for long ) then I would just take it.

We actually have it very good. Take Subaru...so much as park up in a paddock and it's bye bye warranty.

I think if you bypass the dealers for work then they might get picky, I know horners did over my brake fluid and like wise anoter (won't mention as they have not been mentioned yet) but when I had a similar job through them (okay at extra cost) it went much better on the next service.

There are many good dealers and I think it is important to know you dealer, know what goes and does not go.

I like to think old fashioned values hold true at some places, those that don't I avoid.

And as an example, reported fault of suspension bush's, = strip front suspension, lube and assemble. All done despite having competition suspension on...

...although I have also notcied a crib sheet with my mods listed within a dealers folder.

Never trust a salesman, they are not there for you...it's a tough one but the above still has me chuckling.

If my engine blew up tomorrow, I'd be prepared to fix at my cost because I have not changed oil every 5k and been running chipped. I have not had it inspected for ages.

Please don't forget, a remap is alot more than just that. Sure the engine copes all rosey smiley faces, but they need alot of care, drive to the edge 24/7 and you have to step up the care and maintenance, or things will go wrong, which leaves you on a floating rapidly melting ice berg IMHO with ANY dealer. Jon's blown was a pure misdiagnosis, the maintenance and love was an excellent example of how to care for a tuned car.

Or just sell it after two years,

Anybody against BRISKODA? Then I put it to them they are muppets of the first order and I know a good subarau forum for them.

The interweb (I like that phrase now) is a growing media which must be respected. Either BRISKDOA or more extreme variants.

TBH all of this can be looked at as VAG, not Skoda. We are not unique. Skoda, Seat and Audi all have motorsport intrests, yet they don't really like it on there nice new cars. Bleeding obvious really warranty work costs money...I would not approve half of what is approved.

Untill performance upgrades are approved forget any warranty claims...unless it's for your lights...

The interweb (I like that phrase now)

Surely you mean "t'interweb"...? As in, "I got a t'interweb on my new computer". :D

Rob.

Colin some good points, another view by the dealers could be if the car is modded then anything not effected by the modded items should be 1/2 the dealers problem and 1/2 your problem so you pay half towards it. This would make people think twice about modding so indirectly effected parts are still covered. What are your thoughts on something like that ?

if the car is modded then anything not effected by the modded items should be 1/2 the dealers problem and 1/2 your problem so you pay half towards it.

The rules are pretty simple for the most part - if you get the car modded, you are invalidating your warranty. Some people want value for money motoring, and don't want to hack about at their car - why should they subsidise those who break their cars through hacking it about?

Obviously things become thornier if the service manager in charge at the time sets the policy on attitude towards remaps.

Speaking of Horners, I wonder what happened to those boot clips I ordered...IN DECEMBER...

Rob.

The impression that I got from my dealer was, basically, "if you don't take the p*ss, then we won't".

What would happen after a calamity is anyone's guess though, but I'm inclined to agree with Colin. Mod it and take the risk, or leave it standard.

Me, I'll take the risk, and smile nicely at the dealers :shhh:

Rob I dont think any of us here seriously expect warranty work to be subsidised - I like colin would have no prob in paying for my engine to be fixed... ditto my gearbox - what would **** me off is if my rear wash wipe failed and they would not fix that!

what would **** me off is if my rear wash wipe failed and they would not fix that!

But that comes back to Jon's point of proving causality...the rww might fail through naff VAG componentry, or it might be because the mods done to the car have caused it to suffer g-forces which it wasn't designed to cope with!

No rob you have missed my point though :) You only have to pay half if you car is moddified, that means joe public like me get everything done and paid for by the warraty claim cause we don't modify.

would then prove was same RWW arm as an RS4 avant - anyone care to bet against?;)

Yep.

that means joe public like me get everything done and paid for by the warraty claim cause we don't modify.

You do pay for the warranty claim - it's included in the price of the car. If Skoda have to do lots of warranty work, they'll have to put the price of their cars/servicing/etc. up if they're doing the 1/2 subsidy on modified cars. Where as they could just tell 'em to shove it and it would cost them nothing... :)

Paul - proof only works if the person you're proving it to is actually bothered enough to listen as you wave two wiper arms at them... :P

Interesting topic guys!

My motto: The only risk in life is to take no risk!

So, mod it, enjoy it and if it breaks, hope for some luck with the dealers!
