Any opinion on Clifford Alarms?

Featured Replies

Looking for a CAT 1 system and it has been suggested that I look at Clifford's offerings.

Any thoughts / experience?

Top class, but get a decent installer, not one of the "big" national outfits.

Had Cliffords in all my previous cars and i love them!

Never had any reliability problems with them either.

Most important thing is the installer, they NEED to know wot they r doing or else it'll go pear shaped.

I'm jus waiting for the new G5s to become fully available and i'll b gettin one of them fitted.

Thanks. I was looking at the Concept 600.

Will I get one fitted for less than

Had the Concept 500 on the Scooby and never had any reliability issues or problems with it, and no false alarms either. Got it fitted at Techne in Basingstoke who did a top job of the install and also fitted a Tracker at the same time.

Cliffords are great, had one on the Clio and it had the microwave proximity sensor and complete closure which closed the leccy windows. Got it for

Try and get the turbo timer module. Your turbo will love you for it!

I think that may breach the Cat 1 Specifications so check first.

Shouldnt do. Had one fitted on another car along with a clifford alarm and immobliser and the insurance company were fine with that. that was a few years ago though.

Be interested to know if things have changed

Clifford are Topclass gear - but as others have said - make sure the installer knows there stuff.

No such thing as a turbo timer module on a Clifford, its just a latchedout put via one of the spare channels. It shouldn't cost more than about

Looking at the 600 again...

How does the BlackJax part work and can it help prevent theft with the keys (after a house break-in for example). How does the car become immobilised if the thief has the fob - Is there another transponder that if seperated from the car will immobilise it?

You have a "keypad" and you have to enter a code every time a door is open. If someone nicks it the car will start, but if the code isn't entered within 30 seconds, the car will allow the person to drive for about 5 minutes before slowing the car down to a standstill and sounding the alarm.

Not ever tried it in practice, but that's what the manual said :D

Chris

I've had a Cobra fitted, CAT2-1 upgrade, but has been VERY poorly fitted and i'm not happy with it

It has a blackjax style option too but it's not enabled on mine.

As all have said above, make sure it's properly fitted!!

Yep, that's about right. My brother had it on his Fiat Coupe - avoid at all costs, it's a pain in the **** (that goes for both the anti-hijack and the Fiat)!

I don't suppose he ever actually tried de-activating it?

It's there for if / when you think you need it, not necessarily as an "all the time" feature.

Should I get concept 500 or 600? How do I find a "good" fitter?

How long do they take to fit? Assume it's best part of a day.

Jon, ask Gossy about 'Dr Clifford' - he's around the Brum area and will sort you out for 'all your Clifford needs' :D

Riiiight...... so you know when you're going to get carjacked?

No, but anyone with half a brain knows a high risk area from a low risk one...

Jon.

Concept 500 is more than adequate IMHO, it's what i went for.

Fittting is anything from Half to a full day depending on car / installer.

Mine was

I think the main difference between the 500 and the 600 is the tilt sensor which detects if the car's being jacked up and someone's trying to pinch your alloys. We had the 500 on the Scooby and it was more than adequate :) Both units use the same brain (G5?) which allows you to add modules on so you can always make the 500 a 600 at a later date if you want.....

Our Concept 500 and tracker were fitted in a day and we got it done by Techne in Basingstoke who I'd highly recommend
