The proper service software does this so the fact the NSU does it is unsurprising

So how do I get round this problem then :P

Ya can't!

We have to reinstall the software but it won't worrk for the NSU

Dave, have you installed the latest version of NSU? The previous version had issues with Vista. If you upgrade it it might just work.

I sure have, just tried again and still the same........24162.attach

:(:(:(

Hmm that is bizarre like. Have you accidentally changed the code back to the operator code on NSS so that the warranty wasn't invalidated?

It ain't hacked, I had it brand new unbranded from CW as you can see from the top the thread it took last update no problem.

I've dropped it a few times I wonder if thats why it won't do it:rofl::rofl::rofl::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Well mine's been face down in a cup of tea, and it still takes the new FirmWare like a cheap Polish whore.

How's about checking the brand code on NSS and rebranding it as Euro-1?

Prey tell how do I this ....our kid ???

Remember when debranding you cant backup and restore.

You have to sync your contacts with outlook and junk everything else for a fresh start.

There was a thread ages ago, that's how I managed to stumble my way through it. NSS is available here, I can't remember the rest unfortunately!

Nemesis Service Suite (NSS) Download

i still back up even though i've changed my code

No, the issue is you backup when the phone has it's correct product code, and firmware.

You then change the code, and put on a different FW. If you go from branded to unbranded *some* deep hidden stuff isnt quite the same, so when you restore the backup you can bring with it instability.

Backing up and restoring is fine afterwards, unless you mess with the product code again....

thats what i'm saying though, i backed up and restored thoguh my product change with no ill effects, maybe i'm lucky

No idea.

I know many people have bricked their handsets doing this!

Battery life seems a little better for me.. phone only died about an hour ago and it was last charged on friday morning... it doesnt suddenly drop off like it used to when it got down to 3 bars

Flippin' 'eck - on the subject of battery levels....

I'm trying to update at the moment, have phone plugged into the mains and update is still complaining about 'insufficient battery level'. It was on 4 bars before I even plugged it in

Surely a solid, dependable mains power source if sufficient?! If not, how much juice does the battery need for the update to continue? Am I better off just leaving it to charge completely, before trying the update again?

Cheers,

Steve

Leave it to charge completely, IIRC the update wont install until the battery is at 95%.

Cheers Manny, I'll do that. Seems a touch crazy though, as it's plugged into the mains as well. I could understand that condition if it was just running from the battery though.

Steve

Mine's still having none of it ?????

Is that to do with your region coding though, as per threads earlier?

Mine's at least off the mark on the firmware update download. Phone pinged that the battery was full and it then let me carry on. Now 48Mb into the 119.9Mb download.

Steve

No, mines unbranded and has taken earlier updates no problem. So I have no idea tbh. Oh well ............

Just scanned through your previous posts, and I'm confused as well! Have you tried re-installing v21, then checking for a firmware update on a 'vanilla' phone?

See my screenshot attached, and I have the same coding as you

Which version of PC Suite and the Software Updater are you running?

Steve

Good call, I'll give that a bash later

what is your product code? as already said unbranded and unlocked are completely different and an unbranded phone doesn't mean it'll take any sim.

my vodafone would work with any sim but it was still branded as vodafone so when it comes to nokia update they will only give you the latest vodafone approved update which at times was over 12months out of date!!

to find out you product code either look under the battery if it hasn't been changed(its a 7 digit number usually starting witha zero) or use the NSS software and compare to this list here Nokia N95 and N95 8GB Product codes [Debranding] - All About Symbian Forums
