Featured Replies

some other code :D

if it was the wrong code for your handset it would have bricked :)

Indeed. Just be sure it's not an 8gb version if you have an original N95, as that would brick

a quick google says thats the euro-1 unbranded product code, google is your friend :)

GIMF but time is no longer on my side

Right so that means I have 'the best' code and I just need to format the whole thing to install FW v30 and reinstall everything.

It really is the N95-8Gb or the N95-2, if I am not mistaken)

i've finally updated to v30 :o

took some messing about though , downloading the Nokia software updater etc

then Tiscali decided to disconnect twice half way through the update  alls ok in the end ,except that i can't seem to play any of the games that were on the memory card, i did back up the phone before doing the update, and removed the memory card also

i've had that trouble before with games, i've called vodafone and told them and they have refunded me enough money to rebuy the games :)

does it take ages to get the maps up , or is it just my N95

now with the latest update , i thought i'd try the Nokia maps and the new A-GPS , the phone doesn't seem to be able to find any satelites

any ideas ?

Common issue as it see's the firmware change as a change of handset.

That's DRM for you.

V30 has nokia maps 2.0 installed.. you will need to download newer mapping data (thru maploader is quickest)

ColGod, do i have to be connected to the internet on the phone to actually get the phone to pick up the statelites ?

i thought it just like a Garmin or suchlike, where it will show on the map where you are , or am i missing something

Using the internet is the whole point of A-GPS.. it connects to get a up-to-date list of sat locations so its quicker to find them.

It will get a signal eventually without.. however, since V2 there are new maps.. so unless youve loaded them off your PC, it wont have them on the memory card

I seem to have saved the Nokia maps v2 to the phone memory , will this be a problem Col ?

it tries to install , but in the APPS manager it says not installed , but if you open the APP and check the info it says v2.0 wk32 b04, confused , i should of stuck with my 6670

No thats correct.... if you have a memory card, by default it will use that to store the map data. *but* when running it will try to download the maps it needs using mobile broadband.. which will be costly..

You should install Maploader on your PC.. connect the phone in mass-storage-mode using the USB lead and then download the UK maps and voices :)

:o i hadn't scrolled down the screen enough to spot the "maploader" download

anyways , got that downloaded now, then i had to download some Microsoft net software to allow the maploader to work

can't get the maploader to work though, brings up the info screen etc , then just shows "waiting for device" on screen , and does nothing

Have you got the phone connected via USB and in mass-storage mode? (do you have a memory card in the phone??) - im not sure if you have to have the rest of the nokia suite installed too, i would think it would run without it.

Stupid Vodafone locked phone, stuck at v21 :( contract up in Feb though so ill flash it and go with o2 sim free

latest version of Nokia suite installed , phone connected by USB , but not in mass storage mode ( not sure what this is anyway) but the distructions say in PC suite mode , 2gb memory card installed

will try again shortly as there has been a Microsoft update for the NET software that i had to download last night , service pack 1

nope , it ain't working , Nokia map loader black screen, with grey box in the middle saying "waiting for device"

Boing !!!!!

V30 installed just now lol

Had a text today from nokia telling me it was avaliable ?????

I got that text as well, but when I checked there was no updates for mine, as I was already on v30. I wondered whether it was picking up on the fact that it was available for my originally o2 branded N95, despite the fact I unbranded it? :D

Steve

ARRRG! I finally updated mine to v30 yesterday... Now my red hang up button, number 9, and camera button are messed up. :(

When I press the 9 key, the number 9 will flash up on the screen before closing everything that was open regardless of what was open. I get the exact same response with the red hang up button, i.e. 9 flashes up then closes everything. It doesn't hang up anymore! The camera button is now also the * button.

I've reinstalled the firmware and factory reset the phone loads of times without any luck. There appears to be a few other cases of this happening according to a few other sites I've found but no cure, other than a firmware update.

Bum :(

Oh dear :(

Has yours been de-branded Ant?

Steve

Yeah, using the EURO 1 product code.

When's the next firmware due for release??

Did you reset to your original product code after de-branding?

Also did you use the PC Suite backup function to backup and replace your settings or just your contacts? apparantly backing up settings, programs etc can cause problems when upgrading FW.

Yeah I did reset it the first time I installed the firmware, and I have also tried not changing it back. I've also re-installed the firmware using the plum euro 1 code as well as the sand one... No luck on any of those attempts.

With regards to restoring the backup settings, at first I just restored my contacts, but I have also tried not restoring anything at all. I've been scouring the web for hours now looking for a solution, but it doesn't look promising. :( I still have the earlier firmwares on my PC still, I wish there was a way to "downgrade" it and see if that fixes it. Doesn't look like it can be done though.

Thanks for your suggestions :)

One thing I have noticed how ever, after performing a firmware reinstall, or factory reset, the problem doesn't start until a few seconds after I have entered my location, time and date. Odd one isn't it.

Update: Phone started working fine today... wtf??

Hope it stays that way! :)
