when you unbranded are you meaning unlocked as debranded and unlocked are completely different.

did you change the product code on your handset or buy it direct from nokia as otherwise its a branded phone :)

Came from Hugh Symons telecom, supplied through work as we are starting to sell mobiles. Came in a Nokia box allegedly straight from the Factory, judging by my product code though it was supposed to be destined for T-Mobile!

Latest available software for Nokia N95, product code 0548170

Version: 13.0.003

:(

Fecking Orange

Cheers for the heads-up Col, will take a look at that next week.

Just de-brand it GadgetMan! Plenty of instructions about on it....

Orange care prevents me. But then Orange will get the heave ho soon anyway, so I'll debrand and sell to cover my N96.

Even thinking of going SIM free and getting a cheaper SIM only tariff. Unless I can get the Flext 35 for £25 deal when it's launched.

bloody hell thats old!!

i noticed some good and quite big changes to the phone from 13 onwards but tbh not noticed any difference so far on this new one :)

Just a word of warning, if you change the product code, you technically invalidate your warranty.

If you take it in for any warranty faults the Nokia service point will check on a central database to see if it's been upgraded using the NSU and what else has been done. This will also verify the product code of the handset and if it doesn't match they usuall won't touch it.

I'm on v21.0.016 at the moment and ever since I updated it to that the battery life has taken a boot in the pies. Fingers crossed this update will help it again.

There are no service bulletins saying this has been an issue....yet but then it does take Nokia an eternity to respond to issues like this. Ill keep an eye on them to see if anything is brought up.

BTW the retail price of a sim free N96 will likely be in excess of £500 and will remain so until well after Xmas if they release in time. I heard they may be stock shrtages leading up to Chrimbo too :(

glad my contract doesn't finish until february then :)

In such cases, new signups will get priority over upgraders - so expect high prices if staying with the same network.

Which is another reason I'll switch or go SIM free.

Dont want to turn this into an N96 discussion, but is it really that much better than the 95? it got 16 gig memory and looks a bit slicker but other than that seems quite similar?

16GB internal memory, more internal memory and ram(than a clasic N95, not sure of 8jiggabyte), no 3d accerator, has a more normal and newer processor, digital TV tuner, better flash, flash for video, better battery and so on.

Double the RAM, and virtual memory mapping - which should mean PC style pagefiles to boost speed.

Digital Tv Tuner? as in freeview?

And the $64000 question, if its freeview will it be free?

I think it is, yes. But then it's the first handset to offer it, so no firm answers yet.

I'll probably end up with one anyway, but wtf do I need TV on my phone for :D:rofl::rofl:

i think its more likely to be the digital TV that i trialled for O2 a while ago and it required network involvement.

:iagree:

BBC iPlayer is also being lined up to be installed as std, according to an article I read the other day.

Just got the new FW up and running. It seems a lot faster than the previous one I had. (V21 I think) I like it so far.

One thing I have noticed with this V30 firmware, and thats battery life. I have not charged mine since doing the update, and with some wifi/3g and gprs use I still have all the blobs full bar the top one.

Sounding promising then. Off to do a backup now :)

I initially had a few problems with this FW, the phone would lock up for 2 seconds periodically, i put it down to the crap that had been restored over from previous firmwares.. have done a clean start and the phone is super-fast now! :)

Mine just keeps telling me I have the latest version installed, it's deffo an unbranded as I've picked up previous updates no problem ??????
