exhaust tailpipe options, stupid moany neighbours fault

Featured Replies

Here goes as some of you prob know i have a staight through exhaust on my tdi octy, however lately ive have been starting work as early as leaving my house at 4 in the morning, as you can prob assume no matter how quietly i drive away it still wakes the neighbourhood , so im having to get a back box put in to sap some extra ponies away from my engine to quiet her down, question is ive had twin round millteks on an octy vrs, also had a 5x3 oval and currently got twin round 3" pipes which i like but wanna get something different, i might go with a single 4" round tailpipe or another oval hmmm i dunno what to do, someone persuade me :)

here she is currently except different wheels now

I think twins or oval suite the Octy, not a big fan of a bit 4" round one... I think it'll look a bit chavvy to be honest.

What are you doing your current setup? ;)

Im going for a piper, either the twin or 6" x 4"

A great selection of tips

Piper Exhausts

Sod the neighbours!!

If there so bothered get a collection for a silent exhaust going.

Ive heard from a few rally meets that if a car doesnt pass noise then they stuff metal scouring pads in, then pull them out later........ An option for you while your on early starts

I wouldnt say Sod the neighbours, the last thing you want is a S59 placed against the car, get 2 of those and the car is confiscated and maybe crushed. S59 is the latest weapon agains uneccessary noise.

The police round our way are having a crackdown and I regularly see roadsite checks where noise is being tested. For S59 to be applicable all it needs is the local policemans opinion that the exhaust is too loud.

He aint exactly got a bin lid like this i saw on the motorway yesterday.

I have got a blue flame system with a 4" round tailpipe.

Wanted to be different from all of the upswept blueflame tailpipes for the octy.

The system is a 100 cel cat, centre box removed, and I also removed the rear silencer as it was to quiet and but the smallest power flow box on and then welded the rear tailpipe back on.

Yes it is a bit noisey but I dont start work at 4 so no complaints of the neighbours..well only the one!:D

I would not go for the 4" round. Which you rather have the neighbours complain that your exhaust is noisey or that you have choked thier cat cause it was sleeping in your exhaust! Cant you fit a resonator in the exhaust?

i.e/ 2 plastic funnells

just get a new job and start work later ;)

Maybe when you've grown up and possibly got a couple of young kids you'll realise that people who deliberately make their cars noisier are anti-social.

Bet you read the Daily Mail and think that road pricing is a good idea aswell

maybe you can figure out a diverter setup - a Y connector operated with a cable from inside the cabin. Used to be a common mod in the US - think you can still find the setup from US aftermarket exhaust suppliers...

That way you can have the best of both worlds - leave it quiet for the neighbours and for any passengers, pull the cable and dump the exhaust out from under the side with a couple more ponies to boot..

Good luck

If it's a diesel you can start off and crawl on tickover without using the throttle at all. You just have to let the clutch out a bit slower when you start off and change gear, that's all.

Maybe when you've grown up and possibly got a couple of young kids you will learn to be more accepting of people who have different views to yourself.

Right, I'm off to buy a grey Ford Mondeo to transport my 2.4 children.

I think i may join you mate. Whats kids got to do with anything, i'm in my early 20's, got an anti-social car and have 2 kids. Actually my little girl loves the sound of daddy's car.:P

i had a cherry bomb on one of my other cars, ok it could be loud, but you learnt to drive it in such a way at 4am not to wake people up.

I also have 2 idiots in my cul de sac, one has a motorbike that he has to start on saturday mornings at an unsocialable hour and leaves it running for an hour before he goes off and another has an aftermarket exhaust on his subura type car which could do with a S59placed on it.

Coasting? :P

Moan moan blah blah sulk sulk. Back on subject.................

i can kinda see where people come from about people being anti-socaail with loud cars, its just really making sure you don't drive it like a **** at silly hours, but some people will complain about anything.

Your neighbours should be glad you don't have a TVR!!!!

My system is not too loud on tickover and mine is bigger than most, plus the bigger turbo gives it a deeper harder edged tone...not to sure what set up you all have, mine above 4k becomes a real screamer!! Very, very loud when racking the boost up......

Before my neighbours got new windows I could rattle their glass..... luckily they were old and hardly noticed it other than when their friends told them:O

When my neighbour was working nights he whinged about my other neighbour going "in and out in that car with a throaty exhaust at 3 in the afternoon when I'm trying to sleep" The car in question- a standard 350Z which sounds awesome BTW :p

He then has 9 months on the "sick ;) " and to try and tempt him back his employer offers him days, so what does he do all winter? Sit with his radio blasting out at 7am whilst his car defrosts, talk about pot calling the kettle black :finger:
