Yeti Reversing Camera

Recommended Posts

I have had my brand new Yeti for just over 2 weeks and last night I was reversing in the gloomy half light and looking all around me using mirrors and rear window etc, I could see a small wall about 80cms high and the reversing sensor was pinging to say I was close but them crunch..... I had hit a small post that the reversing sensors and me, did not see. The damage is very superficial with slight scratches to the rear bumper and skid panel.

However, it made me realise that a reversing camera MIGHT have helped me see the offending post and I know I should have looked before reversing etc...

The reversing sensors did not see or warn me of the post by rapid bleeping.

Does anyone know if the factory fitted reversing camera can be fitted as a DIY job easily?

Has anyone done this on the latest facelift Yeti?

It is a factory fitted option too so all the parts must be available.

Would welcome your input.

got an aftermarket camera .Wireless,so you need not bother sending a wire to the front.Just connect it to your reversing lights and get the front unit powered.Comes with a clear suction cup so you can fit it on the right side of your windscreen with minimum clutter.Costs round us60 dollars.Does the job. Anything else, meaning Skoda original ,is a waste of good money.

This is the first one I found on eBay, there are lots more there.

It fits in place of one number plate lamp unit and uses your current screen

It is not just plug and play but if you know what you are doing should be fittable and It must be enabled with VCDS.

Simplistically, there is no standard radio, it depends on what "trim level" car you bought. Which is yours?

You will also find the type of "radio" written on the unit.

Interesting that you found a "blind spot" in the reversing sensors' coverage.  While acknowledging that I was primarily at fault, when I reversed into a lamp-post a couple of months back I could have sworn that the reversing sensors were silent until the point at which I hit it.  I was turning on full lock at the time, which is one reason why I think I failed to see the lamp-post: my view of it was blocked by the D pillar for most of the maneuver.  I suspect this may also have contributed to the sensors not "seeing" it (but 'this' i don't mean the D pillar, obviously, but the rather acute angle of approach).

I'm not sure a rear view camera would have helped much in my case, since the lamp-post effectively came out of my blind side  - just about the only downside I've found so far to the Yeti's excellent turning circle.

This is for the FL Yeti and is the lo-line version (i.e. the lines on the screen do not been with the steering wheel being turned).

Obviously assumes you have an appropriate input on the head unit you currently have.

Or this hi-line one (but I am not certain whether you need to modify the size of the opening for the boot lid handle to make it fit or not - I don't think you do on the FL Yeti).

It was comprehensively covered here  http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/176012-anyone-fitted-a-reversing-camera-to-their-yeti/?hl=%2Byeti+%2Breversing+%2Bcamera#entry2898958

The kit mentioned above  looks to be similar to what was recommended there. I bought it all then but due to health issues it never got fitted..

Could you possibly share the link to camera?

Thanks

Sure.

There are many models and makes.Mine has been installed and working over six months flawlessly,so you have a first hand recommendation. The screen is small, but thats just what I wanted. For a quick glance at the screen while reversing it is all I need, and takes minimal space on the windscreen.

The camera mount has multiple options for fitting,I will send you a pic so you see how mine is fitted. It is the best option.Minimal interference with the Yeti electrics.Gets power from the reversing lamp, and just needs a live wire in the front. Here is the link,it is from the American Amazon, but i wouldnt be surprised if the UK site has them in stock too.Copy and paste in the adress bar.

I had some doubts about the Kufatec canbus adaptor mentioned in the other thread so ordered the one from Car-Equipment. No instructions except :

Connection:

Orange - CAN High

Brown - CAN Low

Red - 12V

Black - GND

Unfortunately mine has different wiring

2 orange/brown or is one brown/orange? Glad I'm not a bomb disposal expert

1 red/black

and 1 black - This has a ring terminal on it so pretty sure that's earth

Presently doing one step forward, two back

BTW Just discovered the door lock is electrically operated,

If/when you install it don't forget to use it.

Prior to going out recently I moved my wheely bin to the middle of my large parking area in front of the house ready to put out when I got back for collection the next morning.

Upon return I started to reverse the car into its normal parking space and knowing? There was nothing behind me didn't bother to use the camera or take any notice of the numerous and loud bings and bongs from the warning sensors. You've probably guessed the rest. Anyway the only damage done was a very slight depression in the paint (which wasn't even scratched) where the bracket for the wheely bin handle had just touched the boot lid.

Fortunately it was directly opposite the chrome badges on the other side of the boot lid, so I now have an additional chrome "AWD" badge, sourced from China for £4, which matches the other badges perfectly and balances both sides of the boot lid with badges. Also fortunately is the fact that the car doesn't have any other 4X4 designations on it.
