fmic and xenons

I know the forge kit works around the xenons/washers but does any other kit or has anyone made their own pipe work to fit a seat sport style cooler?

I've brought a darkside cooler and hard pipes was just trying to see how hard it would be to adapt or make my own top pipe to keep the washers. I'm guessing the bottom pipe will be fine just the top?

Hoping it's just the washer in the way not the light unit itself (think they slightly bigger than standard lights)

If not am I right in thinking if I remove the washers completely it will still pass mot without trouble?

The "seat" type coolers upper hose as you say will foul the drivers side pop up washer. Yes you could remove the washer system entirely, it's only water pressure driven so no electrics on the washer mechanisms, but your're gonna be left with holes in the bumper and technically if the car has OE fit Xenons it "should" have working washers to pass the MOT, how many are actually checked is another matter.....

The lights them selves size wise are the same on the drivers side, the passanger side has the ballast at the back of the light but that don't affect anything.

There's no way round it that's easy unless you go for the Forge kit. Everything else will have to sacrifice something.

I spoke to a mot tester today and I asked him the question wether he would fail a car that has xenon's but didn't have washers, his response was that he would if they were fitted from factory and not present or in a working order but he wouldn't if they were not fitted from factory.

So still a bit of a grey area and ultimately at the testers discretion.

In his case I suppose he would just ignore it.

If it was obvious as in missing caps or caps present then he would require them to be working but if it's just a normal bumper with no obvious signs of washers then he would ignore it, if he was maticulous in his work then yes he could potentially go down the chassis number route etc.

It's a bit like rear seats if they are folded down then he wouldn't test for rear seat belts also if his brake tester wasn't working then he could and would just use a tapley meter.

Lots of grey areas when it comes to mot testing.

Suppose I will just have to see like said testers discretion my plan was just to reattach the caps to cover the holes if I couldn't find away to keep them but would have to change mot station as it failed last year on them not working had to fix them still never use them tho

Not true, there is an electrical side to them. There is a loom and a relay to it so the headlight washers only work with the headlights on by supplying power to the pump from the headlight loom. That's how it was on mine with a retro fit system that I stripped out of a scrapped car anyway. Edited by mattievrs

They are pointless anyways. Maybe if they had a wiper ala volvo old skool stylee. All they do is cover the front end of ones car in screenwash. Cant be too clever for the paint

To avoid starting a new thread :

Did your DS pipe kit come with all the pipes to the turbo, including the top boost pipe? Was it for a hybrid or a gtb turbo?

Yeah it comes with everything and replaces all pipe work from egr to turbo I believe for a gtb you use a different silicone pipe turbo end as I needed an adapter for stock turbo and gtb just slides on with a clamp if ordering new they will supply the correct pipes

Thanks for the info - I'll have to measure up the silicon pipes, my turbo is 55mm so I'll see what is in the kit I bought (it is second hand, was sold with the IC I bought). I think I may lay out the contents and compare to the Darkside website. Can't fathom how it is going to all connect up! Like imagining a puzzle without knowing which curve, joint, pipe or bend is for where.

Thanks again.

What egr setup are you running? The pipe with the map sensor hole is top pipe and you will only have silicone at each end of the hard pipes plenty of pics online (google) so you can see what your looking at

How are they going to know if it has them fitted or not?

Without checking major history, chassis numbers or build codes you wouldn't.

If its got Xenon lights he knows it will be fitted with headlight washers as standard, he doesn't need to check anything to find that out apart from turning on the headlights.

Mine has xenons and doesn't have headlight washers.

How does he/she know if they are factory fitted or not?

If they are factory fitted there is no headlamp level adjustment switch, if somebody has added a kit the switch will still be there.

I know its depends how the rules are interpreted but even if you fit a kit yourself, some MOT testers will say you still need washers and self levelling. I haven't come across any but from what I gather that can happen if your MOT man is really anal

I am deleting the egr, it is blt so also deleting the egr cooler. It has made a bit more sense since laying it out and comparing it to pictures. Thanks for the advice. Just need to measure up the diameters of the joints now.

Mine isn't. He's fitting them[emoji14]. Mind you ATM I've only gone for 35w ones, which as I understand it don't require the washers.

Deleted the egr and egr cooker at the weekend, a lot more room to play with now when it comes to fit the new turbo. Also looked at the hard pipe kit and tried to visualise, with the car up on a ramp, a 'route' (as it were) for the pipes to go. No obvious paths considering how tight it is between the headlight, slam panel and then further back towards the turbo. I assume it will look better when the stock boost pipes are out of the way, but even still... Looks very tight!

Does anyone know of any guides as to where the hard pipe kits should go and also how much clearance is needed. I've read it can catch on the drive shaft when on full lock? I will have a good scan through the fabia project section and hopefully find some good pictures of peoples' precious experiences fitting hard pipes.
