Roofbox

Hi all,

I currently have an estate and use a roof box on it that it's reasonably long (over 6 ft as it takes fishing rods). Do you think that would be an issue with a the roof size on a Yeti? Would the overhang be too much?

Many thanks

I don't use one so am no expert, but I think it's more to do with the weight and the spacing of the fixings. And not smashing the hatch on opening with the box.

I will try and get some size ideas from the roof as I fear a massive front overhang on it (from an aerodynamic perspective).

I have owned this roofbox for well over 10 years and use it for when I go fishing. It has only ever been attached to VW or Audi estates (Passat, Golf and S4 Avant). The roofs (rooves?!) of Yetis look a lot smaller than the roof of an estate VW/Audi.

Any thoughts on if that is accurate? I couldn't get the roof length of a yeti from the specifications listed on Skoda's site.

I used to use a plumbers pipe carrier for fishing rods,

you can even fit them widthways across a caravan

slung underneath.

This is my Yeti with a Kamei Delphin 380. The box is just over five foot (5' 2" or 1.57m) and doesn't reach as far as the screen.

This is about the only side on shot I have of it. I have it just touching the rear aerial, and I've just measured that distance as 6' (1.83m) from the back of the box to the leading edge of the roof.

Its quite the beast....here in its current home...

And 7ft long :(

The question is, is that Audi roof longer than the Yeti? And if so, by much? Will I get away with that roofbox on a Yeti? It's essential that I have that one as I have used it for a long long while and the fishing gear fits in there nice and snug :)

Mine could go further back without fouling the tailgate, by maybe three inches. That would leave 15 inches to the leading roof edge, so your box would project another nine inches, not that much further than now. The roof looks a similar length, but the longer bonnet and sloping tailgate make up the extra car length.

Cool. Thanks so much for you going to the effort of helping me.

I have been tempted by one of these lease deals on one of those Laurent yeti things. Thinking of selling the s4 which I own and having a few years in a yeti.

Here's my Thule on the Yeti. I've no idea how long it is (180 - 190cm) but it fits perfectly (it bends the aerial when installed) and I could very well imagine fitting a longer box...

I think it's safe to say that the roofbox I am talking about is significantly longer than the recent additions to this thread. To reiterate, the roofbox to which I refer is 7 foot in length. It's not a job stopper but I need to be aware of it.

I measured my Thule roofbox (pictured above) and it's 2m long, 13cm short of 7 feet. Quite close, I would say ;-)

Hope this helps.

Get a hatch, all your gear should go inside!! it did when I had a Pug 106!!

I have a lovely one looking for a home as you know..............

Not sure how long our roof box is (probably 5-6ft) and it overhangs quite a bit at the front when fitted to ensure the boot opens fully (but only just clearing the box).

I'll measure it when I can.

I have two full size Golden retrievers that fit in the rear no problem.

I also have a tailgate and two custom full length dog guards (with emergency exits) that fit, one directly behind the rear seats, the other 10" further in to the cabin, with the rear seats removed, that give lots more space for the dogs (used separately of course!!)

My roof box is @72" in length, properly fitted with the boot fully open the overhang at the front is no problem.

We use the very same Kamei Topstar XL on our Yeti. It fits fine but I had to get a short stubby aerial from eBay as the original one bent backwards.  Also the open tailgate does hit the back of the roof box (around the high level brake light).  I keep meaning to stick a rubber pad to the roof box at the touch point, meanwhile I keep a cloth handy for protection.

We have the low profile Thule wing bars, set as far forward as possible on the roof rails, so you may have less of a problem with conventional bars and brackets which lift the box a bit higher.

Unfortunately the box is in our garage in France and we are in the UK at the moment, otherwise I would add a photo.

Hi all,

Thanks for the new updates. I have decided against the yeti now. I quite liked it but my wife didn't (she is an evoque driver so say no more). It seemed a lot smaller in the back for my dog so the whole thing got poo pooed. I would like an Octavia estate, needs leather though :)
