It all started with a 09' Carrera Banshee

22kbi8.jpg

Then a Kona Stinky 6 (started as a frame I won on ebay) custom built this over a few months as I was a poor student.

344t98y.jpg

That was sold to fund my first (and last DH bike!) A 2011 Norco (forks were changed for Fox 40's, brakes changed for Formula RX's, rear shock changed for a Fox DHX5, news bars fitted etc)

v8o4s5.jpg

11vs10z.jpg

Current fleet: Rose Uncle Jimbo 8 (to date the best bike i've had, only change has been Renthal bars)

sybbix.jpg

1znqyk3.jpg

Boardman pro 29er with optional extra mud (The Commuter hack, handlebars swapped for Renthals, converted to 10speed and fitted mud guards, it does over 60 miles per week through cruddy conditions)

I only got properly into cycling recently thanks to what I thought was a failing turbo on my Octavia and the DPF, decided I needed to stop doing short journeys and start cycling instead.  I wanted something hassle free so this hybrid appealed to me thanks to its disc/drum brakes, hub gears and carbon belt which ran great - this is 2011 Trek Soho Deluxe:

20120416_134752-L.jpg

After finding I liked cycling I joined a new local MTB group to take my cycling further and bought an ex-hire 2012 Trek 4900 Disc - fairly standard hardtail but decent parts and ran well:

DSC01292-XL.jpg

Wanting to extend my road range, I picked up a road bike - a 2013 Trek 1.5, fairly standard road bike but nothing fancy and clocked up many miles with it including going all the way round Loch Ness which was my longest cycle at the time:

20150510_142333-XL.jpg

I was getting very into my mountain biking so decided on a new bike and my most expensive one, I took part in my first 24 hour race on this one and my first CX race on the 2014 Trek Fuel 29er - a hugely capable full suspension bike with 120mm travel front and rear, immensely quick cross country and flexible bike:

11179028836_84802c9880_o-L.jpg

If I had to pick a favourite of my bikes, it would probably be the 2015 Trek Farley 6 which is a rigid 4in fat bike that I bought as a winter bike to deal with the slippy, muddy conditions over winter leaving the 29er as a summer bike.  However since then the 29er has done little more than gather dust as I didn't expect the fat bike to be so much fun or so fast, I'm not a race person but ended up doing three endurance races and four CX races on it last year including my first Puffer:

AP5Y3911-XL.jpg

On dry fast trail centres the fat bike was quite hard work with reduced benefit from its big tyres an the rigid fork is hard work on long, downhill sections as the big tyres are good for bumpy ground but not great on impacts after drops and jumps.  I had my eye on Trek's 29+ 2016 Stache which seemed a good balance, it offered 3in tyres putting it between the 29er and the fat bike plus it had front suspension help soak up the bumps.  It has an unusual rear chainstay design with the front chainring overlapping the rear wheel to stop the massive 29+ wheel forcing the bike to be too long (it's taller than even the fat bike wheels), I was rather lucky and got this one 'second hand' from Trek's marketting department, it had a third off the price and was completely untouched, never turned a crank.  I am struggling a bit with it though, it's an odd bike as it feels like a 29er and it's more agile than the Fuel despite the huge wheels but lacks the tank like solidarity of the fat bike plus cross country it can't match the fat bike either as the bigger tyres on the Farley allow it to easily carry speed over rough terrain.  On the other hand, it's a demon at the trail centres and on some of the downhill sections it's completely demolished my PR's as it can easily carry a lot of speed.

20160204_094845-XL.jpg

And finally my newest purchase, a 2016 Pinnacle Dolomite - I wanted a road bike that didn't stand out and had Shimano hydraulic discs plus mudguard mounts.  I've never liked the rim brakes on the road bike compared to the consistent performance of the MTB discs and minimal effort, I've been very pleased with the discs on the road bike as I find it easier to ride on the hoods and just rest a finger on the levers plus they work well in wet conditions:

Started up Road cycling this year so bought a second hand mizani aero off gum tree very cheap to see if I enjoyed Road cycling. After doing many miles I really enjoyed it so decided to invest in a new bike, the mizani has now become the bike which I use for work.

New bike is a giant propel, very light and the ultegra groupset is awesome.

My girlfriend's custom build on Specialized frame which I won on ebay for decent money (seatpost is only temporary uncat alloy, currently cut-to-length carbon one fitted)

And mine Trek. Picture taken on my recent holiday in Croatia, South Velebit mountains. If anyone is thinking to go biking there, this website is full of great tracks <take adventure>. But summer time isn't the best choice, usually is immensely hot!

I've had quite a lot of bikes over the years now but only pictures of some of them.

I bough this, and don't even remember the name really about 11 years ago. £100. Used it a few times then sold it. Didn't really do much cycling on it. 100 miles tops.

10270293_10152380788052368_3591257116277

This is an old policeman's bicycle that i used to cycle around on as a kid when my dad wasn't using it. Rod brakes and everything! Just a garden ornament now sadly.

1383958_10151850131197368_286946240_n.jp

I had a bit of a turn with a fold up bike for a very short period. Too sketchy feeling with the handlebar angle and the movement it so sold it on.

1454601_10152969006777368_23085033225639

I had this for a while to use at work on lunch breaks and the likes. Eventually broke the freewheel and binned it as was only worth about £20

Working on the bikes in the garden. My Voodoo Shango dirt jumper in the backround.

I wanted to try a mountain bike set up for the road as well so got this alloy framed older style MTB and pure some road tyres and bar ends on it. Was ok, but gear ratios were a bit short and had an older freewheel on it rather than a cassette

I wanted to try a road bike frame as well to get a feel of the dropped bars.
Wasn't a fan really though. I'm quite overweight so wasn't comfortable for me and the groupset gear set up was very unforgiving for the amature like me!

11180321_10153188405877368_8290031417193

Wanted to get a semi decent MTB so bought a 2011 GT Avalanche 1.0

1075419_10151703606297368_635598101_o.jp

It's been solid for 3 years now and i'm just over 14 stone. Bottom bracket is creaky but still no play. Changed chain and rear cassette to nickel plated ones, lighter tyres, bottle cage, semi organic front pads and some titanium bolts here and there.

13062140_10154013708567368_5656243547379

10385313_10152421204927368_1822625226816

I bought a Boardman Hybrid Pro (2014) for the odd commute to (17 miles each way) and just for long distance tarmac cycling. Much preferred it to a full road bike.

10157252_10152638256267368_9041128489073

Sadly some of the stuff i added made it a bit heavier.
Bar ends
Ultegra cassette
Schwalbe Marathon Plus puncture proof tyres (32c if i remember)
Full mudguards
MTB flat pedals.
Top Peak pannier rack & top box

11145070_10153370238842368_5583643356206

And now i'm having a bit of fun on this.
Added an Enduroguard on the front and a side exit bottle cage.

My old Kinesis Racelight on top which I now get to keep and its new brother my Specialized Rockhopper

Having been a fan of Cube & Raleigh over the years, I've just built myself a Kinesis Racelight, they are stunning bikes and the build quality is fantastic, I'm looking forward to winter when my work tails off a little to allow me more time to ride it :)

Yes I like my racelight as you say well made. I would struggle to replace it for what it owes me and it has Mavic wheels & 105 gearset. Hope you enjoy yours

(Had to add library photo. My file was too big)

Off to get some uplifts this weekend and do some easy downhill runs as getting lazy in this scorchio weather.

Here's my old Galaxy on the Tissington trail

Sadly the Galaxy succumbed to a local "driving person" in a pickup truck, so I replaced it with the Condor pictured here in Bristol. Modern wheels make it look a bit "blingier" than the Galaxy but they seem to work well!

I'm very taken by Condor bikes, having visited them a year or so ago at the NEC Cycle Show I've had a hankering for a Fratello Disc.  The workmanship is stunning on their frames

Well after two and a bit years of very happy e-biking, I've realised that I'm not getting the exercise my legs, and more importantly, knees, need.  This happened to pop up locally, so I got it:

IMG_1033.jpg

IMG_1036.jpg

Giant crs 3.0, 2007 vintage.  It's got a few rub marks but is otherwise sound, and really nice to ride.  Quite shocked at how hard it was at first.  My home to work is 3.5 to 4 miles according to which way I go.  It's 11 minutes door to door on my e-bike, and going for it, I've managed to do it in 19 minutes on the Giant, but I was a gasping wreck.  This is six days in and I'm hoping it'll continue to improve as my fitness gets better.
