This is an extract from my handbook: WARNING ■ The general information relating to the use of assistance systems must be observed » page 216, in section Introduction. ■ The driver must always be ready to take over the operation of the accelerator and brake pedal. ■ The ACC does not react when approaching a stationary obstacle, such as traffic jams, vehicle breakdowns or vehicles waiting at a traffic light. ■ The ACC does not respond to crossing or oncoming objects. ■ If the ACC does not decelerate fast enough, immediately apply the vehicle's foot brake.
  4. Right I'll say it right up front, unpalatable as it is to some - I don't want a DSG. There it is, done it, said it. Following on - Skoda really don't appear to want my money. First the Octavia III 190PS 2.0 TSI SEL - sounded like a great idea, but hold on, DSG only. Ocavia IV, well I still don't trust Skippy the 1.5TSI so perhaps its back to diesel, 2 litre, ah but hold again, 150 PS is reserved for DSG - you want manual -116 PS is good enough for you then. There is the possibility of being able to stretch to a vRS next time (Having said that I don't see the wheel/tyre combo it will come with coping with the roads in my area) but will vRS buyers be allowed a manual option? Looking up the Skoda range further - Superb, wall to wall DSGs Don't get me wrong I'm happy for DSG fans but I'm beginning to hate those 3 letters - every nice looking car I see, start reading the spec, still looking good, but sooner or latter there it is -DSG. Come on Skoda, how about some decent options for folk that still want a manual gearbox?

  6. Murdockman, You may be correct in what you say but I am now cautiously optimistic. I had the battery on charge for a good 7 hours today. Put key into ignition all the usual lights came on and the car started! I will give it a further 5 hour charge tomorrow and if it goes well take the car for a run and see what happens. Thanks for you suggestions guys.

  8. Ok folks Went to the dealer today. They found out that the DRL lost connection for a split of a second and hence the above issue. Anyways they reported this to Skoda directly. Also, I have had some Skoda Connectivity issues. It turns out the issue is in the entire VAG brand. They have tested the same on a brand spanking new VW Golf Mk8 which is in the dealership as a demo vehicle and they had the same connectivity issues. So this has been reported back to Wolfsburg as well. These small gremlins are throughout the lineup. I would expect the same issues in the Seat as well. On the bright side, they are very very supportive (the dealership) here in Macedonia. They are always available, they are calling me if everything is fine and apologizing for the minor inconveniences. Which is surprising in this part of the World :)) but Skoda is the number 1 brand here together with KIA so, they have to be considerate.

I have Now completed the first (40,000 mile) oil change on my 6 speed dsg box I will attach some pictures and information that may help others tempted to do the same though I have seen a recent post that stated they have been quoted £175 at a garage to do it so at that price it may not be worthwhile. For me there was little choice as Blade group will never get their hands on a vehicle of mine ever again. I purchased a " Sealey VS70095 Transmission Oil Filling System 3ltr instead of the vag6262 tool. " (use text between quotes to search) which cost me £69.49 (can be done cheaper without a pump but its slower) I purchased " 1 x Genuine VW DSG Gearbox Oil And Filter Kit (G052182A2, 02E305051C, N910845) from "Lancaster volkswagon" at a cost of £111.92 I already own Vcds (£270) So without going any further - if you can get it done for £175 then do it as even now I have the required equipment It will still cost £112 and a couple of hours of my precious snoozing time in another 40,000 miles time. Still interested...here we go then. I couldn't find an online video of a skoda superb dsg oil change but I did find a very good video of a vw model from a site covering their turbo diesel ( or was it "myturbodiesel" wink wink) search for this "How to change and drain the DSG transmission fluid in your VW w/ VAG6262" and select videos. The car needs to be level but there seems no where to measure the levelness of the superb so I measured the drive level and made blocks of wood to sit under three of the wheels. The oil would drain easier if warm but unless its the depths of winter I wouldn't worry about this too much, the oil is not very viscous. Step 1. jack one side of the car up slightly so that you can reach the furthest and middle of three TX45 screw that holds the engine drip tray up, remove those three tx45's and 8 TX20 (torx size 20) around the edge. (put the 11 screws in the tray and put it somewhere where you can trip over it and send the screws flying) Step 2 Identify the DSG box oil drain plug and slightly loosen it. do not remove it yet You need a size 14mm hex drive and a long ratchet or torque driver I have rung it here in green for you. (viewed from car front) Step 3. Lower the car, lift the bonnet and disconnect the battery . 2 @10mm Pull the battery fleece off (if fitted) Undo the battery retaining clamp. 1@13mm and remove the battery ( the battery tray has lips at the nearside edge so if leaning over the wing, lift and push away from you to disengage. Step 4 Remove the electrical connector from the air cleaner pipe and the smaller rubber pipe. The connector has a small grey peg at the side of it, pull this peg up slightly and then hold it against the connector as you pull it up. Step 5 remove the air inlet pipe from the air cleaner assembly Remove the top of the air filter box and take out the air filter. You now need to remove the lower part of the air filter housing, it is held down by two rubber push on nipples ( highlighted yellow on the 2nd picture below) and one TX30 screw (coloured green 1st pic below) and the air pipes. There is also a ribbed drain tube that goes down through the engine bay to the void in front of the wheel. it is connected to nothing so just pull it up and free. It will make sense when you do it yourself but it requires a yank upwards to lift the filter housing off the nipples and then twisting with the right hand side up in the air so that you can release the left hand U shaped tube. Step 6 Remove the battery tray, it has two 10mm bolts situated under where the battery would be (green and labelled here) and a 13mm bolt above the right hand rubber nipple for the air filter assy. In the picture above you can see the rust marks where this bolt was (just below the red wires) You can now see and easily get to the Dsg filter...It has a 24mm nut shape in the top of it and it is a one piece dome of plastic that is torqued up to 23NM. (My torque wrench starts at 48NM) As its unlikely you will have a torque wrench capable of measuring such a low value it would be wise to mark the top at say 6 o'clock and count the revolutions as you undo it. It is sealed with an O'ring so does not want to be overtightened. Clean around the filter case and then unscrew the cap, very little oil will spill if any at all. You will now see the filter which can be removed by pulling up, have a suitable container nearby to put it in as it is full of old oil. Put the new O'ring on to the cover, smear some oil around it and on the rubber gasket of the new filter and re fit both. Step 7 Re fit all the parts you have just removed apart from the engine tray and sump plug. Spend a moment looking down at the dsg filter cover and come to the conclusion that it should be possible (next time) to replace the filter without removing all this stuff, depends how strong your grip is but I will try that next time. Step 8 Drain and Fill By now the car has resettled after having been jacked up and as it is now back down you have limited room to work underneath, this is why you loosened the drain plug as it is too difficult to do later. Get a suitable container to drain the old oil into, I used an old 15kg tile adhesive bucket with an internal diameter of 280mm cut down to 130mm (the old oil filled to a height of 100mm) Put the container under the drain plug and ....blah blah blah Some oil will come out but not that much, not until you get your 8mm hex drive and undo the snorkel....let it drain.. then replace the snorkel. The VAG kit and the sealey have the correct size adapter to screw into the Dsg box and the sealey has a quick fit push connector and isolating valve so you waste less oil when passing the filling tube down through the engine. The sealey says it holds 3 litres, it either doesn't or my new bottles of oil were overfilled, not that important so just fill it up and pump it in. you need to keep adding oil until it spills back out through the snorkel ( you did re fit the snorkel didn't you?!) check for overspill at approx. 4.5 litres pumped in. Once it starts trickling back out you can connect the Vcds and start the car, as the video shows -pass through each selector position pausing for a few seconds and then back to park. as the oil warms it will expand and you will see more draining out , on Vcds select control modules, dsg automatic transmission and then measuring blocks and click the top left up arrow to get to block 19 , here you will see the dsg oil temp and when that reaches 35c you can turn off the engine andput the sump plug back in, torque up to 45nm Re fit engine tray and rejoice (hide those three extra bolts leftover...bound to be ok without them huh?)

Following on from the first impressions video, I’ve now made one one month in when we’ve had a chance to get to grips with it a bit more (the first film was made on the day we picked it up) if you’re a Zoe fanboi you might not like some of the comments - I’ve had some flack on an EV site already - but stick with it and you’ll see what I really think.. Includes a rant about public charging, me getting egg on my face when I film a super smooth charge making my previous comments seem crass, 0-60 dash, and general driving impressions.
  12. Reading other posts of other models was the Roomster the last marque with the least hangups and the most sane buy? I am now petrified to buy a new Skoda with the problems of DSG gearboxes filled with the wrong oil, software and hardwire glitches, electronic nightmares of reading VCD codes and general frustration of understanding bluetooth connection, updating gps maps, and angry that I cannot play something basic as a CD. After 7 years, I have had no problems with running issues breaking gearboxes, software bugs and emission controversy. I count my blessings!! Amen.
  13. For those of you with DSG and the AL pedals ( much cheaper on eBay!) I have successfully fitted the RHD AL footrest for the Mark 7 Golf - bit of a faff to fit, but it goes in eventually - see item 15400526889. £18.99 post free, came in 3 days via Coalville! For the AL pedal covers - try item 112551555557, EUR 19.00 + 6.90 postage from Germany, which is where I got mine from! Good hunting! e

  16. thanks for the information my brother bought a new battery a month a go and i nicked it of him the old battery was 68 ah an the 1 i put on was 78 ah done 60 Miles and start stop is working perfectly cant believe a battery can cause a start stop failure
  17. We do &/or did use the paddles on the lumbering barge, the overweight but still quite fun Eos, madam's Mk.2 FL Octy vRS + the reasonably nippy R hatch & Estate. Dropping the shifter back into "S" mode is great for a rapid getaway, but we prefer a quieter life, (great age etc...) so we both use the paddles when we see fit, including slowing down. Nothing beats being in the correct gear for a corner or gradient change,without using the brakes....

  19. There is no harm in leaving VIM enabled - I never even put a DVD in my Columbus so unless it something you're planning to play DVD's, I wouldn't worry too much. Assuming the software is original, it should always take the latest maps but may not support the POI database that comes with the maps (if I remember correctly). I think earlier versions only had two partitions but later ones had three. Most the time, even with the latest firmware the Columbus is never 'quick' ;) Might be worth dropping @Rustynuts a PM as he tends to know most things about the Columbus/RNS-510 units and often helps others with firmware updates.
  20. @Redboy I'm the same with the paddles in 7 months and over 6,000 miles I haven't ever needed to use the paddles to change gear and I've probably used Sport mode twice because even in Eco it's very fast since the remap in early Feb 2020. I'm also a sucker for the coasting function in Eco and like lifting off as I approach the 14 roundabouts on my commute and like seeing the revs drop to 800rpm and the fuel savings by simply doing nothing than the DSG putting itself into neutral effectively. We have decided to leave earlier tomorrow morning for our short break in Cumbria and this will be the longest trip the Superb has done this year with around 210 miles to our Hotel. Might take a photo of the range left when we get there and it should be in the 470-490 range judging by the only other time it left the County back when I went to AmD in Essex for the remap.
  21. I used the paddles very rarely on my nimble GTI. I don’t know why I would want to use them on the Superb, which has the usual DSG manual shift lever. I just pull it backwards into sport mode if I want to leave a junction quickly with oncoming traffic or overtake.
  22. I can't believe the CCS is an optional extra on Zoe, without rapid charging, EV's are simply an expensive toy. I've bought a second hand Leaf for my wife, was deciding between Leaf 24 or ZE20. Although it's a local runabout, rapid charging is still very very important. Case in point #1: We move to my parents 150 miles away when I can WFH for childcare reasons. Wife wanted her car, so we drove it over in 2 cars. Would have been a very long journey with a 22kW charging Zoe. Driving Leaf with only 20 kWh battery, the journey was only longer by 1 hour, stopped twice. Case in point #2: Car was 55% last weekend, I drove it hard (I like the instant torque feel) and had 26% when we got back. Afternoon we spontaneously decided to drive 25 miles round trip, a risky trip without charging. But 5min at a rapid charger and the trip was easily done. With almost 3 years of EV ownership, I have got the same conclusion as you: public charging infrastructure is very bad. Not only stupid membership requirements. Single rapids dotted about the place does not inspire enough confidence to rely a journey on it. For my 60 miles car, the ONLY journey I'd confidently do outside of its range from my home in North London is to Milton Keynes thanks to the 8-bay rapid charing hub. I feel there's only one brand of EV that can replace an ICE car for long distance driving. All others are just local runabout, excellent locally but ultimately you are tethered to your home charger.

I am currently blind in the left eye, I have no problem using any of the physical controls on my car, they are all tactile & I can operate them all by feel while keeping my eye (not eyes!) on the road ahead. I would not be able to correctly touch that button even at a standstill & looking at the screen, I know this because I really struggle selecting an address on the satnav on my Chinese head unit with an 8" touch screen. Using the smartphone is a real nightmare, I do all my typing at the computer now. Car controls have used ergonomics and tactile discrimination for decades and it benefits all drivers not just those with visual impairment, I doubt that any of you take your eyes off the road to use 95% of them, as has been said using a mobile phone etc on the move is against the law, its crazy that they should be allowed to get away with this. In the same vein, indicators have become larger and much more visible and distinct over the years thanks to road safety legislation, now they are becoming tiny blips of yellow LED light under a clear lens and practically invisable against the blinding glare of the DRL surrounding them.

  25. I'm a bit confused. I've got one site stating that the part no. is 5K6955435 and it fits your car. But when I check this part no. in auction site listings it says it doesn't fit.

Sorry mate your battery has probably gone to meet it's maker, the cells inside deteriorate when not being charged and the alarm and internal clock drains the battery over time, just starting the car once a week would have been ok or like myself I bought a 12v solar panel charger for £20 or if you have power available a maintenance charger for £18 and just hooked it up to the battery it stays fully charged as normal, you just have to remember to disconnect when starting much cheaper than a new battery

  28. Yes - I've been contemplating this upgrade myself but wondering is the outlay worth it. With the voucher added the price of the dongle is approx. £88 when converted to GBP and the charging tray is almost £73 on Amazon UK. If you look at the installation video or the pdf instructions on the linked charging tray it looks a relatively easy mod to do but I've read elsewhere on the forum that the larger android and later iphone models would be too large to fit on it properly.

    Not true, you would need to buy the bluetooth module which is plug and play, not a new unit.   30. Thanks, that would explain my issue then. Looking I'd thought I'd be able to get everything for £100ish, looks closer to £200. I'd seen the inbay tray, but the AliBaba options are half the price, which is where I was thinking I'd missed a compatible piece.
  31. This is how well VW plays the marketing and brand segregation cards, assisted also by minor engineering choices because of-course they are in the position to do so. Starting with the names, "Golf R", R for... Racecar right? whereas what's a Superb Sportline?? If the same car was called a "Superb vRS" it would have sounded much more attractive to performance car buyers (probably resulting in some of them giving it more consideration than they should over the Golf and the Leon). Then continue with some trivial tuning like free up some more bhp for the Golf (and the S3) over the Superb (and the Leon), put some stiffer springs and purposefully induce farting on gear changes, and top it off with shooting the car on a racetrack for the brochure and... somehow your practical family car with some oomph is now a "petrolhead's car", or at least that's what they'd like people to believe...

No information from inclination sensors (which exist but for other reasons) is used to determine shift up points, its simply a comparison of the throttle position and the acceleration, on the flat the vehicle will accelerate quicker for a given throttle position than on a hill and hence the gearbox will short-shift the upchanges on partial throttle.

  36. The child locks are definitely mechanical, operated by turning the black circle on the back of the door, near the latch mechanism, with the end of the key. They possibly haven't been turned enough or the cable may have become detached from the internal handle. It'd be quite a coincidence for the cables to become detatched on both sides though.

  39. I don't believe there are stiffer springs of the same height, as that is what I would like for mine. The only stiffer ones I am aware of are lowered ones, which is of no use to us caravanners.

  41. Just an update for those interested. In my case it was a bad AC compressor. I showed the mechanic at the dealer the fact that the rattle disappeared with the AC on and they called me in for a replacement, at no cost for me. The car was out of the standard 2 year warranty but I had complained while still under warranty. Actually, I have 5 years warranty but they were not aware of it when they called me in for the compressor replacement, so pretty decent of them, though in the end they probably repaired it under the warranty.

    I don’t know how to do it, and I would guess there is a safety/legal issue with disconnecting or disabling the handle especially as your car is a taxi. I have to use taxis a lot and the mind boggles that anyone would try and get in the front with the current global pandemic...... In all seriousness I would get a blow up doll, large teddy bear or shop window dummy, put a mask (officially approved face covering, not gimp😬) on it and strap it into the front passenger seat. Or pile a load of stuff on the front seat so it’s obvious it can’t be sat in. Tape over the outside handle with Duck tape in a big cross, just in case they don’t spot whatever is strapped in the front.
  45. Had a Skoda meet up last weekend. Was a great turnout n great weather. I think for the first time the Superbs dominated, with only 2 Octavias present. We also had Kodiaqs, Fabias, a Scala and a Yeti. I'm pleased with the way Gandalf looks now. 🙂

  47. Me too, a 2.0 TDI superb arriving soon but looked at the new octavia and as above, you can't have the 2.0 TDi 150 with a manual. They do have a gearbox/clutch that can handle the torque as I am about to get one delivered in the Superb. I am also surprised that the smaller engines have gone.
  48. First ride after the correct rear Eibachs were installed. With them and the thicker Audi pads car retains the OEM 1cm difference between front and rear but is overall 25mm lower than stock. Yeah I like it a lot now.
