  1. seriously, DIY oil changes is one of the easier things to do without throwing that sort of money at some company to do it...

  3. Well one of my reverse sensors has given up, Dealer wants £101, TPS wants £85,,, Can someone recommend any Ebay ones which are good quality, work and don't cost a fortune?
  4. Tried the Newcastle (Tyne Tunnel trading est) one today, Asked if they serve to the public, Bloke looked a bit confused said yes, Hell of a lot cheaper than dealers..
  5. I tried all sorts of different LED's to replace the front sidelight bulbs, Every LED i used threw up the error light on the dash and didn't last very long, Gave up on them and just put the standard 501 bulbs back in..
  6. I have the same problem but mines a diesel, I have recently noticed that switching something on which draws power like the heated rear window the car ticks over normal, switch it off again and it ticks over like its misfiring again. No codes either showing up, Cannot figure it out...
  7. Thanks for the replies, Im doing about 30 miles a day to and from work, some stop start but mainly duel carriageways. Using about less than a quarter litre of oil every 1000 miles. Im now changing the oil and filter every 7 months or so, Always been a stickler for regular oil changes on all the cars ive had.

Simple question, My Octavia 140 PD is on 105 thousand miles now, Its always been run on long life quantum oil from new on long life service regime which i don't follow anymore, Its changed every 6 months now. It uses a little bit of oil but not excessive..Should i switch to Platinum 5w/40 oil now the car is getting on? is there any benefits using gold or platinum oil?
  9. Scanned the car again today and got glow plug number 4 off, Can this be the cause of the engine running lumpy and sort of misfiring ??

  11. I had the same problem, On mine they have resistors or something like that across one of the terminals, This had gone, so no current getting to the bulbs, took it out and replaced it with a piece of wire, now working. check to see if yours is the same, could be the fault.

Hi, My car seems to have picked up a strange habit, Start the car cold, Tick over fine, Tick over when hot also fine, But its that point in between cold and fully warmed up the tick over is very lumpy, almost like its misfiring and vibrating. Had the timing belt replaced couple of months back but don't think its anything to do with that. tried different brand diesel, but nothing helps, Nothing showing up on VCDS.. any ideas? Its driving me mad...

  14. Hi all, My service indicator has come on again only a month after it was serviced, Oil/filter, Fuel filter, air filter change done. I reset the service indicator by the usual, holding the button down on the instrument cluster etc.. Just dont know why the indicator is on again, any advice. Thanks,,
  15. i wouldn't trust halfords to change a light bulb on my car, Never mind a compete cam belt kit.
  16. Been quoted over £440 pounds at dealer (that includes free aux belt ), and £330 at local trusted garage using a Gates kit inc water pump.
  17. Hi Everyone, Does the water pump need changing every 4 years with the timing belt or not? Had the belt kit and water pump done 4 years ago by local dealer.

  20. Thanks for the replies, New tank is about £30, I used all sorts in the end ranging from mild bleach to bicarbonate of soda . Its eventually cleared after continued flushing, Its now refilled, just got to get rid of the air locks now.. Thanks guys.
  21. Seems a common thing with hot starting. Mine was the same, Recommended to renew the battery which i did and it fixed it.

Hi all, Not Skoda related, But last year had to have the cylinder head gasket replaced on daughters Citroen C2,, There's still ''gunge'' in the expansion tank so i was wanting to clean the whole system out and refill with fresh antifreeze mix.. I have read on various forums about using dish washer fluid to degrease the cooling system, Any advice on whats best to use ?
