  1. Well no. My suggestion would be to use a satnav app on your phone rather than a VAG pratnav.
  2. Ok, adding "supermarket diesel" to list of possible reasons thanks.
  3. You win a pile of shiny internets for that. 2 minor points though:- Where were the Wookies? I could only see humans. Rusty was the most interesting car there, even when you found all those Smiths!
  4. Then you have to either use bonnet raisers or cut extractor vents of some form. Forcing air into the ventilation intake from above the bonnet won't extract air from the engine bay, no matter how often you ask. Counting myself, there are 3 different people who've told you this.
  5. @defiant @337 - I agree with @adamjackdrew that what is almost certainly happening is that the direct sunlight is dazzling the CCD for the camera, which works the LA. I'm not a vehicle technician but I am a software engineer and this system is more about computers than about cars.
  6. @sepulchrave @Wino Exactly guys, hence my recommendation that he gets in touch with whoever fitted the alternator. The only time I've ever experienced an alternator failure the symptoms were similar, and the failed unit was a newly installed exchange part.
  7. Have they remembered to fit the "long vehicle" plates to the back end?
  8. Yeah, if it has to do with Octavias or Superbs and Sasha doesn't know it, it's probably not worth knowing!
  9. If you've believed 10 impossible things before lunch, why not end your morning with breakfast at Milliway's, the Restaurant at the End of the Universe?
  10. Louvres in the aft half of the bonnet, a radiator extractor scoop similar to on a Corvette C6 or C7 GT sports racing car, bonnet raisers to lift the back edge of the bonnet a couple of inches... None of which make the mistake of increasing drag and lift by forcing more air under the car.
  11. The other lesson you need to learn right now is that petrol will spontaneously ignite, so stop bodging the fuel system before it gets the chance.
  12. Agreed. Also @D.FYLAKTOS I strongly suspect that if you want a duct that far back on the bonnet to reduce underbonnet temperature, it would need to point the other way and extract air from the engine compartment. The reason the scoop on the Mustang works is that it's over the air intake, and also not over the HT electrics.
  13. Having experienced a failure in an exchange alternator before I'd say it's very likely. Contact the vendor to find out where the alternator was sourced, as it's very likely that supplier has a Consumer Rights responsibility to replace it.
  14. The most common reason for black smoke is overfuelling. There are a number of possible reasons for this:- Worn injectors Clogged air filter Boost leak Turbo problem Something else I don't know about because I don't know which engine you have.
  15. @Evil - Well, I'd start by cleaning the door drains, which are invisible unless you open a door and stick your head under it from between the door and its frame. It may not be the right solution, but it is free.
  16. { @SashaGrace } I'll leave it to @TheITGuy to decide whether you can help him any further.
  17. At a guess, the bit where non-programmer types think fault codes are some sort of black magic rather than the ECU receiving a value that's outside its programmed limits.
  18. Yeah, I can understand intellectually how LA works, and even that it's possibly useful on a long motorway tag, but I do those maybe 4 times a year, and drive 5 or 6 days a week most weeks. For me it would be more useful if it would default to "off" and let me turn it on when I want it!
  19. @SashaGrace - I think it might help this guy if you're prepared to tell him how tall you are.
  20. And if you straight-line corners when it's safe? Does that render it as useless as it sounds?
  21. I wouldn't have thought so; big clues as to the purpose of both in the names.
  22. Therefore there is still an actual or uncancelled fault. A shareware VCDS might help.
  23. One chicken and confidential press briefing pie, with chips and gravy!
  24. Are you certain? I ask because my GP mis-diagnosed gout as early onset osteoarthritis, and gout is very treatable to at least relieve the symptoms with allopurinol and possibly diet changes (I had to stop drinking full sugar soft drinks in favour of diet versions).
  25. Not as such; OK it means going to a Skoda dealership, but if you quote them the chassis number and show them the registration document (is that a V5 in Germany?) they should supply a new lock matched to your existing key.
