  1. Our new cars have been monitoring us since April 2018 when the legal requirement of eCall became a legal requirement on new vehicles https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/news/ecall-all-new-cars-april-2018 While this technology was meant to be used for emergency call in the event of an accident it can also be used for a whole lot more information, obviously exactly where you are, how fast you are driving, what time you started & finished your journey, your route etc etc. To the best of my knowledge our cars have an electronic SIM built into the bulkhead that is used to transfer this information. There is still a grey area over who exactly owns this data that is collected on us, and it is not available outside of the servers it is stored on unless the relevant authorities get the OK from a court of law. In this particular case JLR had to hand over the collected information to the police which led to a successful conviction, read from about half way down this article to the section how car technology caught a killer https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-51466273 Big brother is watching us, same as our mobile phones, internet connection etc etc monitoring us in our everyday lives and there's nothing to very little we can do about it, except live completely off grid, and even then................
  2. Why deviate from the manufacturers recommendations, I use 0W-20 as that is what they recommend for my Superb, there may well have been internal alterations to the specifications of the engine such as materials, limits & fits etc, so if they say 0W-20 I would go with that.
  3. Here is a picture of mine in 'coasting' mode, you can see it is in 'D' (drive) but no gear position shown and at the top of the virtual cockpit it also shows 'Eco' within a circle. The revs drop to about 200rpm more than normal tickover until coasting is cancelled. Sorry for the poor photo, it was taken while driving up a private driveway.

Perhaps this video will help, watch from 9:00 minutes onwards:
  5. Had my rear discs and pads changed last Friday, the discs looked in exceptionally good condition with just a slight lip on the outer edge, which is to be expected given the mileage, nothing like the ones pictured above, from new they lasted 90k miles (pads were down to the last 10%).
  6. My Superb is now on its third windscreen, the last two replacements were made by Pilkington and they are at least as good as the original windscreen - no problems whatsoever, both fitted by National Windscreens (with ADAS calibration facilities). Not sure who Skoda use for their windscreens but it could well change to what is available at any given time, just like they fit different tyres to new cars depending what is available.
  7. The Superb uses a different technology for the heated windscreen so you won't see any wires as there aren't any. It uses an extremely thin metallic coated layer within the windscreen that from certain angles looks like the windscreen has a metallic finish to it. Edit: the same question was asked here with a bit more information https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/454901-mkiii-superb-heated-windscreen/
  8. My immediate though was the OP was asking about the lithium-ion battery, I hadn't considered the 12V battery!
  9. Mine is working again . Using Samsung Galaxy with app version 8.2.0 Looks like something took a while to update at the server end but all good now - until the next update!
  10. Took my Superb into Skoda today for its 5th variable (longlife) service. I had it from new, its now a little over 2 1/2 years old and just reached 90k miles, front brakes still fine but the rears were 90% worn so new discs and pads fitted. It came with continental tyres when new, these were replaced at 35k (at one year old) with Pirelli P7 which are still on and have proven to be extremely good from a wear point of view (I can't fault them in any way for my usage - mainly motorway), the fronts are still on 3.5mm the rears 6mm.
  11. Picked the car up from Skoda and all seems to be working just as it should so good news 👍
  12. I'll try mine later today, it's currently in with Skoda having a service as I type this, fingers crossed mine also works.
  13. This Skoda web page suggests lithium-ion battery type is used. https://www.skoda.co.uk/news/details/new-superb-iv-phev-open-for-order-with-up-to-eighty-four-of-all-electic-range
  14. I wouldn't go quite as far as to say that, there is still a 20mpg difference from 50mpg to 70mpg, that represents a considerable difference (40%), especially for higher mileage drivers like myself, but if you don't cover many miles it doesn't really matter so much.
  15. I'm also on 25.1 maps in the car. Had a look for app version 8.3.0 but can't find it, the app was last updated 23rd April.
  16. I'm having exactly the same issue, I'm on Android using app version 8.2.0 and since the update nothing has been arriving in the car. I have also opened a case with Skoda support online. Hopefully like others have found it will start working again as I use this feature extensively.
  17. I was going by the https://comcar.co.uk/companycar/tax/select/ website which indicate relatively little difference between a Superb SEL estate plug in and an Elroq 85kw Sportline as shown in the attached photos.
  18. I fully appreciate you position regarding the BIK (I currently have a Superb diesel company car) but if you really want a Superb estate (plug in hybrid) it will cost you less than an extra £15/week over the Elroq BIK which isn't too bad, a price well worth paying, in my view, if you really need the space and that's your ideal car.
  19. My wife has a mk3.5 facelift Octavia with the Amundsen nav unit, I have a 2022 (2023MY) Superb facelift with Amundsen, the earlier Octavia version is by far the better unit in terms of all round functionality - not sure what the software department were doing, like you say they its like they ran out of time late on Friday afternoon!
  20. When I test drove a 2022MY SEL in early 2022 it didn't have the digital dash (an option at the time) but when mine arrived late 2022 (2023MY) it came with the digital dash, so not sure exactly when this became standard but sometime in the later half of 2022, worth looking for one with the digital dash if finances permit, but if you've never had one you won't miss it.
  21. My SEL is exactly the same, drivers door mirror dims but not the passenger side, but on the wife's Octavia SEL both mirrors dim, it's no big deal for me but strange there seems to be no consistency throughout the range.
  22. Pretty sure mine's two hours.
  23. Greenergy is wholly owned by Trafigura https://www.trafigura.com/news-and-insights/press-releases/2024/trafigura-completes-acquisition-of-greenergy/
  24. I have no experience of using this company myself but have heard good reports from someone I know who has used them, they have a rolling road at their main site in Milton Keynes which they use for development work, used to be wholly owned by VW UK and now have dealers that sell and fit their products across the country. https://www.racingline.com/skoda-performance-tuning-modifications
  25. Recently had this on my Superb, apparently there was a spider and cobweb between the ACC cover which is part of the front bumper and the ACC unit itself which is behind the cover, cost me £140 at my local Skoda dealer. Have since found a way to remove the cover from the bumper as shown here but haven't tried it myself yet.
