Update is possible but it requires unit to have swdownload patched first. Screen display is P&P, it does NOT affect any active features, but with your current SW button APP will not work.

Assuming you have Superb Mk2 then installation of patched MIB STD2 PQ unit will give you Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

Well, there are just two more possibilities: either glove box unit or LVDS video cable between glove box unit and display unit. If you find someone having a car with MIB2 unit (it does NOT have to be the Octavia, it does NOT have to be exactly the same unit) you can install your glove box unit in that car to test. You will have no sound as unit will become locked with Component Protection but you will be able to check if the same problem occurs. No worries about Component Protection - after re-installing in your car the unit will be automatically unlocked.

Indeed, you have Amundsen 5Q0035874C. It has an option 9WT onboard which means SMartLink (Android AUto, APple CarPlay, MIrrorLink) are enabled. It also has USB part number 5Q0035726E which supports Apple CarPlay. Link for downloading latest firmware has been sent via PM.
