  1. +1 for Andrew at Blacksmoke. I have used him for 10+ cars for friends and family. Brilliant. In comparison to paying £450 for a 'proper' remap myself which was a pile of poo.....
  2. In the Braintree one, busty bertha (my nickname for her) goes it on the computer and gives me the web price when its been ordered online and wrong. Without fail. I suggest you change your ECP, or stand there and order it via your phone.
  3. Happens all the time for me on both cars I have, right reg, wrong part. You have to have half an idea of what you want. A quick measure always works, and now I pop the box and check. Its been the same for sensors, brake pads and filters.Still, ECP is cheap and easy so it wont discourage me.
  4. I do mine every 10k sometimes more often if i am under the bonnet. For what filters cost you might as well.
  5. Id check the filter again, see if its black again. If it is, then I would suspect the fuel pump (tandem pump) Easy swap, not too expensive if you do it yourself. The pump wears and ets engine oil into the fuel.
  6. Ha Ha, Its not Sudbury thats the problem Mick, Its across the border into Essex (Gary boys you know). I work in Braintree.... you need to wear hard hats and Flack Jackets to drive around Essex! Sudbury Suffolk sounds much the same as your Sudbury, coffin dodgers and tractors. More horses than cars pass my house each day!
  7. Usually an employer would help anyone out who is suffering because of a pay error wouldnt they? Cant you tell them and ask for the cash, or some of it?
  8. At 37 I am in the middle here I think... You can accuse all people of all ages, sexes and races of being poor drivers. I have been guilty of it at times myself. But in the past few days maybe a month I have seen... 1. old lady driving at 25 in a 60 stopping when another car came the other way 2. old man driving at 25 in a 60 stoppng at corners 3. young driver racing round a round about and lose it when he had to brake because he was driving too fast and came up behind a bus 4. young girl get bumped into on a round about because she hesitated 5. young lad beep and get irate at a foreign driver who was clearly lost at a busy intersection. 6. said young lad wheelspin up the road nearly crashing into oncoming traffic, then getting pulled over by a police car 50 yards later. :-) 7. middle age woman driving at 50 in a 30 go round a bend and plough into a bus at a bus stop 8. foreign (english car not english appearance) man not be able to keep his car in his lane and apparently have no idea where he was going 9. foreign (english car not english appearance) woman not be able to keep his car in his lane and apparently have no idea where he was going 10. foreign (english car not english appearance) man not be able to keep his car in his lane and apparently have no idea where he was going 11. foreign (english car not english appearance) woman not be able to keep his car in his lane and apparently have no idea where he was going 12. foreign (english car not english appearance) man not be able to keep his car in his lane and apparently have no idea where he was going 13. foreign (english car not english appearance) woman not be able to keep his car in his lane and apparently have no idea where he was going 14. bit of a trend here, but repeat a few more times 15. young lad weave in and out of traffic to end up blocking a hatch box and then block an ambulance from getting anywhere 16. young lad weave in and out of traffic to end up blocking a junction and then block anyone from getting anywhere I could go on. Like I said I have been guilty myself of a few silly things, I have had 27 points in my life and done awareness courses, none of us are perfect. Also one thing I do remember saying before my forst Octavia was 'BLOODY SKODA DRIVERS'
  9. I think when I did mine I used a spanner underneath it and kept banging it up and down.
  10. New ones are less than £10, you could sacrifice it....
  11. Ok now I am interested. My car has has a DPF- ectomy and has similar traits....cough cough splutter. Which EGT sensor was it, the one at the top of the engine?
  12. It does clean OK, and you can get chemicals that clean them. But why is it filling up??? I asked the same questions, even ended up getting the DPF replaced then removed. But I have looke dinto it more and more, turns out the fuel pump was letting engine oil into the fuel, which burned poorly, and filled the DPF up. Check your fuel filter, is it black?
  13. I believe Skoda used to make Semtex, or are the Semtex manufacturer or something. Maybe its made int he same factory. There is a link anyway.
  14. Diesels dont have Lambda sensors, I dont think. The DPF - Diesel Particulate Filter - has a number of temperature and pressure sensors in it. The DPF can be seen down the back of the engine, with 2 or 3 sensors plugged in the top. Or at least thats how it is on my Octavia. I think I paid £152 for a new one fitted a couple of years ago, but they are £70 odd quid, and an easy fit, I think. never done it and my memory may be cloudy, but thats how I think it is.
  15. Then your EGT is goosed, I had this on my octavia a couple of years ago, not a huge expensive fix if its the one on the DPF.
  16. When I had my last escort with manual winders, I fitted motors and switches and used the holes in the door cards for tweeters! Perfect fit it was!
  17. I had my car de-dpffed and remapped by a company in Braintree. They were convenient and cheap and did the job. Nothing outstanding, I think the garage they used to do the surgery broke my engine cover, but I anot 100% on that. Anyway, it was done in a day and had been ok. Although my car has faults, its not their work thats the problem.
  18. I have done 2 kitchens in the last 3 years and about to start my third. Did Wickes flatpack kitchen 1, cheap, easy, I think the whole kitchen came in at £3200, fitted in a week, included an £800 granite sink and granite taps. Everything else was bought over a year and when on sale/reduced and I got a professional to do the worktop, although he didnt fit it to my design which annoyed me. 2nd was howdens prebuilt, slightly more rigid and yes easier to fit because it arrived semi finished, but the kitchen was 1/4 the size and cost almost as much. I did the worktop myself but it was a pain and I would get someone to do it again next time, but I will explain my wishes better. This time I wont rule out flatpack again, the quality is so good nowadays, and its not much of a headache to build and also you can modify panels instead of a whole cabinet.
  19. Manual winders? It must be 1990 since I had a car with manual winders.
  20. Right back on this now guys. I had the MOT done last week, after new shocks and brakes all round and an investigation into an oil leak the garage pointed out the o-ring on one of the boost hoses wasnt seated correctly, so I had a big boost leak. This fixed the terrible lag and aparrent overall loss i power I have been seeing. And the oil leak is fixed, it was just the oil that had accumilated in the interccoler blowing out. No more smoke on occasion everything is almost running as it should. Anyway, I still have the blocked fuel filter feeling and big sudden power loss with no errors on VCDS. I have been reading up that these PD170's have a stutter problem in general and Shark are claiming to have a 100% fix. Anyone think this might be the fix for me?
  21. They do, I bought some from a dealer for my brother when ge hot his MK1 fabia.
