  1. I have never seen one in the flesh but I think that is the early 1U Octavia before they revised the facia, on deeper thinking, no as the column switches are wrong... God knows! Big hammer, hacksaw and glue?
  2. It’s them getting old that worries me most, after 42 years as a mechanic some of the things I have seen people (including so called professionals) do to keep a car running would have ended in death if it was an EV. Take this taxi driver’s solution to the wrong battery shorting out on the inside of the bonnet, he didn’t even bother to double up and do the earth which still hit. Now imagine someone hacking a high voltage battery…
  3. In our workshops we only fit genuine kits and pumps as we like the peace of mind the warranty gives but I have heard that in OZ genuine parts are hard to get and the price hurts. Don’t forget though that there are a number of fasteners which are one time only TTY and these are usually only available genuine. The kit for a CFGB engine is 03L 198 119 F and is expensive here at £287.28 so probably in excess of $500AUS. The SKF and Dayco kits are very comprehensive and come with both designs of tensioner stud.
  4. I usually find the end with 💩 on it
  5. An Australian market Mexican built 2018 Tiguan Allspace 4 Motion 7 speed DSG with a DGVA engine,
  6. What is the VIN?
  7. The MQB platform heater matrix is very prone to blockage which is almost impossible to flush out, thankfully VAG must have expected this and made the matrix almost as easy to change as a Golf 1… it went right downhill after that.
  8. The seven digit SKC code was generated by the VAG system, you are after the five digit PIN which always starts with a 0. On the later dash panels this can be very difficult to extract, the last time we needed it was because our ODIS cable was faulty so we had a locksmith come out and extract the PIN and I entered it with VCDS,
  9. The SKC system no longer exists.
  10. When selecting reverse, the action is broadcast on the CAN BUS and the HVAC system closes the air intake door so you don't inhale your own fumes as you are reversing.
  11. My guess would be that it is an entirely different fault or the garage fitted non genuine EGR valve which has done the usual trick of failing again. What is the car's VIN and how much did the new EGR valve cost, part price if possible?
  12. Access through erWin is free for me but that could be because we are a registered independent repairer.
  13. 45BHP… high state of tune then 😄 I did mine two years ago and it was a LOT of work. I based my conversion around a 2005 Bora 1.8T box as I figured the other choices such a Golf Anni was too rare and a Cupra would have been thrashed to death. After fitting, sounded like a coffee grinder so I pulled it and rebuilt it myself spending £2k on parts alone… The ECU needs recoding to 6 speed which is in the coding menu.
  14. VAG number 03L 198 119 or E now 03L 198 119 N and 160 teeth, everyone and his grandmother offer it, which brand are you looking at?
  15. Very few consumer items are a threat when new, what I know will be a problem issue when EV’s are a decade old and being patched up in time honoured fashion is cheap working practices and these will kill people.
  16. I see... The commonly used CRLB as an example is £6525.60 genuine VAG inc VAT and comes with new injectors and glow plugs.
  17. What is the VIN? Make sure it has a brand new head or the resurfaced head has been HIP treated as if not, it won't last two years.
  18. The price of a Golf engine roughly comparable to the e-Golf (say a 1.4 TSI) is £5200. The price of the e-Golf battery part number 5QE 915 597 AC is £28370.08 retail inc VAT, that is taken directly off the ETKA parts system. Incidentally the price of a Skoda ego battery is £16090.The pure ICE ban is coming in here in less than 7 years. As to needing to stop burning stuff, well that's a matter of opinion. Time will tell. Not everyone can afford a Model Y Long Range, well new anyway but an e-Golf is quite affordable after they have lost 2/3rd's of their value in two years.
  19. It is going to be the next big way of ****ing someone off, unplugging their car in the middle of the night so it is flat to go to work.
  20. I don't know if this has been said before, a lot of replies here but one of my many opinions on EV's is "If they are so good, we would not need to be forced into buying one". My UPS guy has just bought a two year old e-Golf (£23k less than it cost new!) and I wanted to wind him up so I looked up the current 🙄 price of a new battery, £28500!
  21. It won't come back if properly treated, the problem is that takes a lot of time and expensive products.
  22. My neighbour bought a facelift Golf 7 GTI on my recommendation and he said it sounds like it has a speaker behind the dash, I told him "the fancy name is structure borne sound". The worst one though is the SQ5 one of my lads backed into his bay a few weeks ago, everyone said what a lovely noise it made but I rather burst their bubble when I pointed out the two rear silencers are made by Bose and are actually speakers... Even worse are the fake tailpipes with speakers you can buy for a Tesla.
  23. Don’t trust the dash gauge, it displays rubbish. If it moves above 90 the truth is 117 and rising.
