  1. 988km or 614miles took 52.4l, and if you do the maths there is a discrepancy between indicated consumption and actual consumption
  2. Totally agree, driving style has a huge impact on fuel consumption.
  3. this was a recent tank full with my normal commute to work with some trailer towing / short runs to the shops etc. (note average speed of only 60km/hr) brim to brim consumption was 52.4l, this is not a 4x4, just fwd RS.
  4. Have almost managed to get 1000k from a tank (988km best) and that is just my normal drive to and from work + weekend running around, including towing a trailer and the tank to tank fill calculated to 53.5MPG
  5. I have a full grown black lab and I would say she would fit into the sedan but maybe not be able to stand up and move around, in my wagon she can stand up and move around to get comfortable
  6. Had the following items replaced on mine Rear tailgate struts DSG shifter knob (Flaking chrome) Chrome trim around center air vent on dash (chrome blistering) Manifold boost sensor (engine cutting out, with error code relating to manifold pressure)
  7. Launch control takes care of the banging on take off. launch control on tdi vrs activated by; switch off traction control put DSG into sport mode left foot on brake pedal take engine to 2.5k rpm release brake and hold throttle until 3d gear reached then plant it. result - fast takeoff no wheel spin or axle tramp
  8. I am trying to work out how in the event of a warranty claim could the dealer workout that a tuning box was fitted. From what I understand the tuning boxes intercept fuel pressure and boost pressure signals and report to the ECU a lower value causing the ecu to request more fuel or boost as required, so for example in the event of a turbo failure the logs wouldn't show any over boost all I could see is that they would see an higher request for boost signal due to a lower boost pressure (if they were to correlate request for boost with actual boost), which could be symptomatic of a faulty turbo. If anyone could explain what is stored in the logs that would be appreciated.
  9. I have the Travall pet barrier and here in Aus it was the cheapest option at the time and I like that it is removable and requires no drilling to attach it.
  10. having the Pano roof here In Australia in summer definitely have to have the blind closed.
  11. I have had this same issue, driving down highway with cruise control on and the car had a momentary loss of power then back on it's merry way. One thing I have noticed is that after a period of constant cruising and coming to a stop, on acceleration there is a large white cloud in my wake and subsequent accelerations do not produce this same cloud, I am guessing (hoping) that it is steam from a build up of moisture in the inlet manifold. I got the idea it is building up moisture in the inlet is that at one of the services there was a comment about draining the inlet manifold. So my thought is that as the intercooler is integrated into the manifold, under certain circumstances there may be a build of of condensation which when it gets to a certain level is sucked into the engine. Happy to be proved wrong though.
  12. Ambient temperature also has some effect I have noticed, at 110km/h on a relatively flat road with little wind, ambient of 15C oil temp sits at 95-98C, at ambient of 30C oil temp sits 102-105C (same road, same speed)
  13. after 50K+ km my TDI VRS gets 4l/100km when driven on flat road at 80-90km/hr and at 110km/hr it increases to 5l/100km/hr. fitting a DTUK tuning box the indicated consumption is out by approx 10% (under reads), from keeping records at each fill up overall the DTUK box gives approx 3% improvement over stock and there is all that extra torque to use.
  14. Last night whilst sitting at traffic lights I experimented, Heavy pressure on brake pedal, revs drop to approx 750, moved transmission into N , instantaneous fuel consumption dropped by 0.1l/h and engine note changed. Maintained the same pressure on the brake pedal and put transmission into D and fuel consumption increased and engine note changed. So from that I would say the clutches aren't fully disengaging when stopped.
  15. If that had happened only once I would say that, but have regularly put more than 50L in from different pumps at different service stations
  16. The most I have squeezed into the tank is 52.5l not bad for a 50L tank
  17. I opted for the diesel as I was after economy and I wanted the toys that came with the VRS. I had mine off the road for about 4 weeks and in that time I had the same spec car as a loan vehicle but in petrol and whilst the extra power was nice the economy took a beating compared to the diesel, approx 200km per tank and the premium fuel is more expensive than diesel here. However if I wasn't doing as many highway miles I would have gotten the petrol. We don't get hit with different taxes due to emissions, vehicle registration (read as road tax and compulsory third party bodily injury insurance) is determined by the number of cylinders the car has.
  18. I must have met the same officer as I too was pulled up for speeding on my bicycle, going down a steep hill. He said i was speeding to which i replied "was I, didn't know as my bike doesn't have a speedo". He then then said I should have been able to estimate my speed in relation to the traffic around me, but I told him that all the cars were passing me, he let me go with a warning.
  19. Hot idle on mine (as read using a Bluetooth OBDII dongle and the Torque App) is around 780rpm. if it is doing a DPF regen or is cold idle is around 1000rpm.
  20. I regularly have to remove ice from the windows during winter (i live in the northern areas of Adelaide) due to heavy frosts. winter time gets cold enough that I had to have Antifreeze installed into my Solar hot water system to prevent the pipes from freezing up. and as Gerrycan said we get temperatures in excess of 43Deg C in summer for extended periods. I have noticed that the winter economy is not as good as it is in nicer weather and there is no need for heating or cooling.
  21. Ok I have a MY15.5 VRS TDI with the DTUK box fitted. I have kept record of every fillup with a long term average of 5.8l/100km Recently I have had to take off the tuning box to get some warranty work done and had to do 8 consecutive tank fills with the car in standard trim (car well and truly run in at over 30,000km at that point) over those 8 tank fills I got an average of 830.6km per tank full, since adding the box back and completed 5 tank fills i have an average of 866.8km per tank. Over this time I haven changed the way i drive or where I drive (my wife uses the car also and has a heavy foot) so i can say that the use of the DTUK box has given me an improvement in economy (30km in 830 = 3.6%) I generally fill up at the same place so i guess you can assume that the fuel type / quality should be the same. Before I took the car back for the warranty work i was getting on average 860-900km per tank full.(my record was 945km with a mix of 75%highway and 25% urban driving). Based on a 3.6% improvement and the records I have i guess that at 80,000 miles would get approx half the cost of the box back (based on what it cost for the unit in Aus dollars (including freight) and the average fuel price since i bought the car) I didn't buy the box to get an improvement in economy i was chasing the few extra ponies, and i must say the driveability of the car is much improved and it can be tempting to use that extra power.
  22. I think it is they haven't bothered paying the subscription to the service here
  23. it is available just not enabled, to enable a country specific code needs to be added into one of the Infotainment adaptations (for Aus it is 1024), I have done this on mine (Columbus MIB1) and a MY16 car as well with the MIB2 unit.
  24. this is also not available in Australia, but it can be enabled using VCDS (or equiv) the enabling code is country specific
  25. Mine does it too, I rotated the tyres and noticed that the rears were 'feathered' on the inside edge. The noise moved from the rear to the front. One thing I have noticed that when I had the alignment checked the rears are set with a slight amount of toe out which would explain the tyre wear
