  1. You can turn off the city setting of AFS but retain the other modes. I'm pretty sure it's just an adaptation on module 55 - headlight regulation if you have VCDS or OBD Eleven. @trevh
  2. I ended up with a new battery on the weekend, original lasted nearly 7 years and 70k so I don't think it was a terrible innings. Told the AA guy I wanted AGM and he fitted a Bosch one. Coded correctly as I made sure to check afterwards with my OBD Eleven. Looking at prices of EFB and AGM I can't see the point for going EFB, its a little cost saving that makes sense for Skoda selling hundreds of thousands of vehicles, but for one person buying one battery, just spend slightly more for the better, more durable battery.
  3. Thank you, another useful post and more to consider 👍
  4. Another vote for Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 5. Had the AS3s before and both seem "quiet". Generally very good value too.
  5. Huge thanks again for the detailed post and example pictures! 👍 Going to get the stuff ordered for lowline and go from there. Never been fussed about reverse camera up until now but thinking it would be handy to have. Plus retrofit projects are always fun!
  6. Thank you @SashaGrace for the detailed response! 🙂 Good to know all good with KESSY - wasn't sure as the cameras seem to be attached to the boot handle and it's great being able to walk straight up to a locked boot and just open it, would hate to lose this feature! Not sure I fancy cutting the boot, so how bad is option 1? You mention it is "bulky"? Are there any recommended places to get the camera or a specific kind I should look for? What are the main differences between the lowline and the highline cameras? On a totally unrelated note my car battery finally gave up the ghost earlier since posting this thread and ended up needing a new battery - was still on its original approaching 7 years and 70k. AA callout and £35 later I'm now upgraded to a new Bosch AGM. Win.
  7. Hello all, I know this topic has been done so many times already, but I wasn't able to find any answers regarding the following.... I have KESSY and Park Assist. Can I still do a reverse camera retrofit or are there any special considerations with the above options. Does KESSY have a different boot lid handle button as I can just walk up to it and open it? Can reverse camera and park assist exist together and is there anything different about coding for it? If anyone can confirm which camera I need to work with a MIB1 Columbus and if I need to change anything else to retain KESSY/Park Assist that would be much appreciated. Thanks 🙂
  8. I think this looks fantastic, front end looks great and I like the rear of the hatch. Not sure why they went with white and red for unveiling the hatch and estate versions, there are other colours that do the current VRS far better justice. Interior looks like a nice step up, especially with the alcantara and stitching on the dash. The seats look great. Not a fan of the hybrid offering, I could charge at work for free and at home for a fairly negligible amount, but it still seems a bit compromised overall really. Heavier, slower and only 6 speed DSG.
  9. Yes it's normal and usually at the cutoff of the beam pattern.
  10. If you do find them a little bright they can be dimmed via coding (which you are getting done anyway).
  11. That's the whole purpose of this thread and my original post. Major service cost has disappeared, so is a major service now all the items I listed at £417, or is it some unknown mythical price? If the former, then it has gone up by roughly 50% compared to the previous published price. Since you asked for the breakdown... Previously £280ish... 50% of 280 = 140. 280 + 140 = 420. Total itemised entries came to £417. Of course this may not turn out to be the case, and at no point have I said this is definitely the case. It merely seems odd there is no longer a major service price explicitly listed. I've had dealers attempt to charge more than £280 for a major service previously before pointing them to the published price, so it's not entirely implausible. As for questioning things... again that is the purpose of this thread. Better to get a consensus of a range of experiences across a number of dealerships from forum members up and down the country, before arguing it out with a local dealer.
  12. If they'd added a tenner or so onto last year's prices to cover inflation, I'd think nothing of it. When a major service covering everything appears to be nearly 50% more expensive than previously, then it causes some alarm and surprise. I can't think of many things that routinely increase in price by such a proportion.
  13. Was looking at the fixed price servicing page on the Skoda site earlier, and it all appears to have changed with prices noticeably more expensive. https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance-fixed-price No oil and filter service anymore No major service at £280 which included all filters, plugs and checks From what I can gather, and this seems the biggest change, a Major Service would now be an oil inspection service (£179), plus extended scope (£59), plus air filter (£45), plus pollen filter (£35), plus spark plugs (£99). So a major service where everything is due now costs £417 if I'm understanding correctly? Good work Skoda, looks like I'll definitely be taking mine to a local independent now 🙄
  14. Good write up of your initial thoughts and I'll be following this thread with some interest. Quite fancy a Sportline 272 to replace my aging Octavia VRS 220 in the near future. The remap should make this a rather capable stealthy beast!
  15. That's exactly where I'm at. 63 220 with a decent spec and it still does everything I need it to so well. Faultlessly reliable too. Seen some very tempting 19 plate pre-facelift Superb Sportline Plus 272s for around 22k though... OP - new VRS challenge looks great. Colour has really grown on me too
  16. Michelin themselves don't advocate changing at 3mm. A tyre company whose interest is to sell lots of tyres... http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Should-we-change-tyres-at-3mm.htm If the tyres aren't performing as well as hoped then change, but applying an arbitrary tread depth amount well above legal limit as being the point for changing seems odd. Especially at 3.5mm when the tyre still has around 40% of its original tread left.
  17. +1. Cheap Tesco 95 does the job for me just fine. Managed 50mpg on a run recently and tend to average 38mpg per tank.
  18. These are next on my list once my Asymmetric 3s are done. Meant to be an improvement, although I note officially fuel consumption is worse and noise higher. Anyone moved from 3s to 5s and noticed either?
  19. Usb ports in the rear was only an available option if you opted for heated rear seats at one point. Not sure if that's still the case but that adds a fair extra cost for that plus the usb ports if you only want usb. As others have mentioned, use the boot 12v socket and use a converter with some cables through the ski hatch/armrest.
  20. It looks fairly sharp and conservative. Definitely a step forward from the MK3 facelift. It seems to have gone more upmarket and classy. A few things reminded me of the B9 A4 I drove this weekend (which was rather good!) and there's definitely some influence from Audi in there. Not a fan of the steering wheel though and I wish they'd put the starter button somewhere central on the dash. Irritates me on my current MK3 with kessy and shame they haven't addressed it. Price will be the biggest issue here. Pushing this upmarket hopefully hasn't ruined the value argument which has always been part of the Octavia's appeal.
  21. This seems to have disappeared from the Fixed price servicing page on the Skoda site now . Started out at £99, then went up to £119 earlier this year, and now disappeared from the site. It's a bargain at £99 and like you say, not even worth doing it yourself. Hope dealers continue to offer it.
  22. If this is legit then it looks decent and I like it, though it looks like a facelift again to bring it's looks closer to the Scala, rather than a whole new model. That side profile is almost identical to the existing MK3.
  23. Which Extended warranty do you have? What was the reason for rejecting this as a warranty claim? If it's the Skoda backed one and you have all component cover, I can't see why this wouldn't be a legitimate claim and any specific exclusion which would be applicable. My money would be on the DRL controller rather than both the controller and the headlight unit itself.
  24. I use auto for my Columbus and it changes with the headlights coming on (also set to auto). Are your headlights set to auto or were they off, or possibly manually set to on? Works a treat for me, no complaints at all.
