  1. To be fitted outside the swept area? Slight tangent, and exploring the ‘significantly affecting’ aspect, what about Head Up Displays? Or vehicles presented for MoT with filthy windscreens? (are testers allowed to fix faults ie clean the windscreen?)
  2. Isn’t there a defined ‘driving zone’ that mustn’t be obscured in any way, even by such as a windscreen chip (for it to cause an MOT test failure? So if part of the phone/holder is in that zone, it would/should be a failure. Personally I don’t like to see phones there anyway, but that’s just me (see sig below!).
  3. It’ll disappear even quicker if you put a price tag on it…
  4. As said above - welcome! just a thought, presumably the dashcam came with a plug to fit the car’s 12v socket, have you tried using this and not the hardwire kit? (Apologies if I’ve misunderstood your posts and have done this)
  5. ‘A minor breech’. It’s a breech by a team that won the 2021 WDC, which went to the last lap of the last race. That 5% could have been all the difference during the season. I bet Mercedes and their driver will love this.
  6. Any idea/link for weaker springs suitable for the hatchback, please? I’m trying to visualise this with the hatch closed - would two springs instead of 3 work?
  7. Gas struts on the bonnet, full specs as what to buy are on this forum somewhere. Took about fifteen minutes to fit, and perform excellently. A recommended (by me and others) mod.
  8. I’ve started to notice a slight judder on my 18reg 1.4 tsi DSG when reversing on full lock. The car has done 33k miles, any ideas on cause please? (I have extended warranty via PCP, so will be having it looked at, but would like to have an advance heads-up)
  9. You’d’ve thought either Lewis or the team would have learnt from AbuDhabi - it seems GR and MV had made note…
  10. For ‘normal’ plastic/perspex reflective plates, drill from the back not the front, so as not risk delaminating the backing.
  11. Wouldn’t it be possible to break a window, (or force it down) open the door from the inside, drop the seat back, and reach into the boot, always assuming your model has folding rear seats… Might be cheaper, and quicker than a new key..
  12. Not owned both, but test drove both last year (2018 vintage). The Octavia won hands down with both Mrs B and me, the Leon felt much smaller and had a harsher ride. Finished up with an Octavia hatch - huge enough boot for our needs, because I couldn’t find an estate with the spec and colour we wanted.
  13. You just did: it didn’t, but it was a huge risk to take... 🤞🤞
  14. Does it give any message on the screen? I have an AliExpress aftermarket plug-and-play, which occasionally doesn’t work, but it comes on again after a while. But it does give a ‘parking system not working’ type message.
  15. I get all three every time on my mk3 with amundsen , even if they are all the same - eg for short trip. I understand green = fastest, but which is which on the other two? all the manual says is see electronic version, which I haven’t managed to find - all I can find is an online version of the paper one!
  16. Toured parts of Sweden and Norway in a new Octavia van in 1968. IIRC, the H-pattern gearshift is reversed, ie 1st where 3rd usually is, etc. And rear suspension so that when jacked up the wheels ‘droop’, so when it’s back on the ground there’s a huge amount of positive camber.
  17. Just clicked over 30,000 miles...
  18. Thanks. Camera’s working again now, and screen still quite warm. So it doesn’t seem to be caused by the camera, that was my worry.
  19. As title, should this happen? I fitted the AliExpress reversing camera last year - brilliant installation how-to on here - but yesterday I suddenly stopped working, with a ‘system not currently available’ message. While scrolling through menus trying to get it to work, I noticed that the screen was quite hot to the touch. So (a) should it be? And (b) could the two be connected? Thanks in advance
  20. You forgot the awful Irishman
  21. That would be even better, assuming a large enough grommet is available, and the surface isn’t too curved. But either would do the job.
  22. The Rover 75/MGzt had a headlight bulb access panel in the wheel arch lining, but one of mine went missing. So I self-tapped a suitably shaped piece of alloy in its place, accessible with the wheel on full lock and a stubby screwdriver. A possible solution?
  23. Not wishing to be confrontational, just genuinely interested- What gives EV drivers the right to expect free charging? Someone is ultimately paying for it. For example, I was on (volunteer) car park duty at our local theatre which shares a car park with a business premises, the latter having several charging points. When an audience member EV driver expecting to use one saw the notices on the charging points which said they were only for staff and customers of the business, much verbal abuse ensued, aimed at me! (OK, I was wearing a hi-vis jacket, but no jobsworth comments, please!)
  24. Make the kids walk - save even more...
  25. Well, if it’s anything like my experience going from a diesel manual (admittedly, Volvo not Skoda) to a petrol DSG Octavia 3, you should not have many worries (ie about the engine and transmission, don’t know about the body style!!).
