  1. Thanks again, but I’m still a bit confused: I looked online for ‘Skoda/VW SDcard’, and they all seem to already have the updates installed and are around £30. Is this correct, if so, what am I downloading, or are there blank VAG ones? re which version, I’m happy with ECE 1, as I’m only really interested in Uk maps. Sorry to appear slow on the uptake. Malcolm
  2. Thanks, I feared that might be the case. Apart from that, is it straightforward though?
  3. The car is 18reg 1.4 DSG Octavia with Amundsen unit, and I have found an update online - ECE 1 2023. Now the Q - using a new Skandisk 32gb SD card, do I just download this update onto the card, and then put the card in the SD card 1 slot in the glovebox unit, replacing the one already there? can something be that simple? I said it was a daft question, but thanks for reading it…🤔
  4. Not that I know of, but when I built my JZR (it has a sequential gearchange), it was just a case of positioning the gear lever pivot point above or below the pushrod. But that is purely a mechanical lever setup, worlds away from the DSG, I would imagine. FWIW, I prefer the opposite to you, as I think it’s more logical to pull back when decelerating…
  5. I had a similar experience a few years ago, when I was able to prove, with the help of evidence from the Met Office and Ordnance Survey, that the ‘cash machine - for Police use only’ (aka safety/speed camera) was showing the wrong time. Unlike this example, the Authority didn’t write to acknowledge the wrong calibration, or cancel the NIP, they just let it die. Presumably so that unlike the OP, I couldn’t go public… That I may have been speeding was irrelevant: the fact that I wasn’t speeding at the time they said was very relevant though. Rather like for the OP, they hadn’t got all the factors correct.
  6. The first~ a Boys’ Brigade publicity photo taken at the Raleigh factory when I was 16 (my usual mount was a Norton 350 Model 50) The 2nd pic was a couple of weeks ago aboard a Kawasaki Z400 on holiday in Gran Canaria.
  7. Very clever. Have to admit, though, it took me a while
  8. I could never understand this use of the horn. What does it mean? Is it to say ‘I’m here and I’m coming through’? So what if two vehicles approaching the bridge/bend both sound their horns? And what guarantee is there that any other driver has heard the horn, however loud? Must be Hell for folks living near the bridge! IMO blind bridges should be approached very slowly, leaving enough time to stop if another vehicle is coming the other way. Thanks how I’ve acted for over 55 years, with no problems. Apologies for mini thread hijack.
  9. To be fitted outside the swept area? Slight tangent, and exploring the ‘significantly affecting’ aspect, what about Head Up Displays? Or vehicles presented for MoT with filthy windscreens? (are testers allowed to fix faults ie clean the windscreen?)
  10. Isn’t there a defined ‘driving zone’ that mustn’t be obscured in any way, even by such as a windscreen chip (for it to cause an MOT test failure? So if part of the phone/holder is in that zone, it would/should be a failure. Personally I don’t like to see phones there anyway, but that’s just me (see sig below!).
  11. My reversing camera! my Octavia’s AliExpress reversing camera - there’s an excellent thread about installing one on here - has decided it doesn’t like the cold weather, well, at least I hope that’s the reason it’s decided to work only when it wants to, and not when I want it to! It even went blank this morning while I was reversing. I think I’ll check the boot lid connection first, as it could have been loosened with the boot opening and closing.
  12. I bet it’s won a style award somewhere…
  13. Forgive the pedantry, but aren’t there two Nanas missing? (how many are now singing it - just like I did to check!)
  14. It’ll disappear even quicker if you put a price tag on it…
  15. As said above - welcome! just a thought, presumably the dashcam came with a plug to fit the car’s 12v socket, have you tried using this and not the hardwire kit? (Apologies if I’ve misunderstood your posts and have done this)
  16. ‘A minor breech’. It’s a breech by a team that won the 2021 WDC, which went to the last lap of the last race. That 5% could have been all the difference during the season. I bet Mercedes and their driver will love this.
  17. Any idea/link for weaker springs suitable for the hatchback, please? I’m trying to visualise this with the hatch closed - would two springs instead of 3 work?
  18. Gas struts on the bonnet, full specs as what to buy are on this forum somewhere. Took about fifteen minutes to fit, and perform excellently. A recommended (by me and others) mod.
  19. I’ve started to notice a slight judder on my 18reg 1.4 tsi DSG when reversing on full lock. The car has done 33k miles, any ideas on cause please? (I have extended warranty via PCP, so will be having it looked at, but would like to have an advance heads-up)
  20. And once you’ve seen it, it becomes the most dominant part of the logo!
  21. NHS service… phoned my GP surgery at 2pm, their system is to do ‘mini-triage’ on the first phone call, and phone back once it’s assessed by one of the docs. They phoned back within 20 minutes, offering a face-to-face appointment at the surgery with a GP at 3.20. Antibiotics prescribed, which I had collected from my nominated pharmacy by 3.45.
  22. You’d’ve thought either Lewis or the team would have learnt from AbuDhabi - it seems GR and MV had made note…
  23. For ‘normal’ plastic/perspex reflective plates, drill from the back not the front, so as not risk delaminating the backing.
  24. Wouldn’t it be possible to break a window, (or force it down) open the door from the inside, drop the seat back, and reach into the boot, always assuming your model has folding rear seats… Might be cheaper, and quicker than a new key..
