  1. FWIW I had this on my 2002 Rover 75: it was called the bathroom setting…
  2. Starting in 1963: bikes - Excelsior Consort, Lambretta 150LD, 350cc Norton model 50. From 1964, cars - 1937 Morris 8 tourer, ‘53 100E Anglia, ‘58 Morris 1000 Traveller, ‘61 A-H Frogeye Sprite, ’70 HB VivaSL,’74 Allegro, (Mrs B then took over ‘our’ cars!) Then lots of company cars 1978-2016, inc Merc, Lexus. since 2016 - Volvo C70 hardtop convertible, current Octavia. Plus JZR 3 wheeler, wot I built in the late 90s.
  3. Thanks for all the replies chaps, much appreciated. malcolm
  4. Apologies for another SD card query, but I couldn’t find exactly what I need to clarify. My car, 18 reg, has the Amundsen 2, with I suspect the original maps. I’ve found this on eBay, anyone know if this is what I need to update, please?p
  5. Mrs B had a lovely 07 reg 3 cyl Fabia, but it kept ‘losing’ coil packs, the last time it happened was on the M25, when we hadn’t replaced the last spare we usually kept with the car. Called the RAC, whose gizmo diagnosed at least one duff coil, fortunately he had one on his van (must be common, then?). Anyway, he volunteered to follow me until I would leave the M25, to check all was OK. But a few miles on, it failed again. ‘Must be plugs’ he suggested. Fortunately there was a Halfords just off the next junction. With a new set of plugs we never had another coil pack let go. Lesson learnt - but we still p/ex’d the car soon after for a 1.6 diesel Fabia. And entered the world of short journey DPF problems…
  6. Further to the DAB comment above, also check whether there any curtain airbags above the doors. If so, make sure the camera cable doesn’t foul them and affect their operation. “Wiggling a flexible wire thingy through the headlining” sounds a bit risky to me if there are airbags. Maybe route the cable along the floor to be certain?
  7. My 44000- mile Octavia has the (imho) lovely half leather (?) seats, but the driver’s seat is starting to look just a bit dirty. The bolsters are fine, I have leather wipes, but I don’t know what to use on the centre panels. It’s regularly vacuumed, but I’ve never tried to actually clean it. Thanks in advance for any tips.
  8. Emery’s. What an awful video!
  9. The Octavia 3 has smaller inserts, and when I installed gas struts to replace the prop, I wondered the same. However, in practice they just dented the insert as they lay across them. So I left them in situ with no problems occurring.
  10. Mine’s not quite as high as the above, but not far off. Sufficient to say I’m more than happy with what I do get. Certainly compared with Mrs B’s 1.2ltr Nissan Note, it’s very acceptable…
  11. Mmm, from the drone picture, I would definitely say it’s on the road, as is the one parked closer to the main road - extend the white road centre line, and it would curve round just in front of your car, but the ‘inbound’ lane would go right through your car.
  12. Apologies if you took me seriously, it was meant to be tongue in cheek - from your first post it looks like there wouldn’t be room to fence it anyway. The rest of my post was not tongue in cheek, however, particularly about the insurance. Best of luck sorting it all out. Malcolm
  13. Fence it off, your neighbours will soon tell you… it is is serious point though, for car insurance purposes if nothing else - it could give the insurers wriggle room if the car is stolen, and you’ve said it’s parked on your driveway. For this reason, I’d say road, so they are insuring the greater risk. What did your conveyancing solicitor (or the vendor’s solicitor) say when you raised the point? From what you say, the Deeds are on your side, but you need to clarify, as you can bet any would-be purchasers will ask when/if you come to sell the property.
  14. The owners’ manual says reset’s not a diy job, as it could cause damage, andshould be done by ‘a specialist garage’. Resetting it on Mrs B’s Nissan is straight forward, so what it dangerous on the Octavia, and is it possible for it to be diy? Thanks
  15. At my ripe old age - late 70s - I think life’s too short to worry…
  16. I agree, I use it all the time
  17. Thanks for that reply - I have the same problem on my Mk3 Octavia, but I know there’s a split/fracture/broken joint somewhere, as there’s spillage just in front of the nsf wheel. Had to happen this weather, didn’t it…
  18. Is there any (programme) way of extending the DRLs to also light up the rears? Volvo have front and rear, imo this is sensible. Thx
  19. One Professionals location not so attractive was Service Rd M in Watford, behind what was then the Abbey National and Leeds Permanent (there’s two names from the past!!) Building Societies offices. Doubled for the rear exit of a night club.
  20. Thanks for the encouragement once again. Well, I released the bottom edge of the tailgate liner just enough to get at that connection, and it seems now to be working. But as it’s an intermittent fault, who knows for how long!! I suppose logically it is more likely to be the tailgate end, as it’s opened and closed (slammed by its own weight?) so often. Anyhow, I don’t half miss it when it’s not working, particularly as Mrs B’s Nissan has one OE.
  21. Enjoyed my AliExpress camera for the last couple of years, thanks again for the heads-up, Wayland, although it’s never been 100% reliable, occasionally triggering a ‘parking pilot not available’ message. However, over the last week it’s hardly worked at all - it’s amazing how much I’d come to rely on it!! I’m reluctant to take the glovebox out AGAIN (!), but I can get to the connection in the tailgate fairly easily. So when it stops raining… Anyone else had this intermittent performance? Malcolm
  22. Out particularly helpful, just an anecdote… I bought a towbar for my Rover 75 from a breakers, but had to remove it from the scrap car myself. This turned out to be a very useful exercise, as in the Haynes manual tradition, “refitting is a reversal of the above”. 👍
  23. Apologies if that sounded a bit sarcastic. It wasn’t meant to be, I meant thank you.
