Hello, static voltage is not too bad, 9.8 on cranking is a bit low and probably explains sluggish starts. Alternator output looks ok. Are you able to get a recovery voltage reading of the battery (without engine running) immediately after cranking? Do you have access to, or know someone with a good battery tester?

Re. point 1- yes, that is, unfortunately, a possibility - particularly if the type of battery is changed. If your servicing garage has the facility to do this, that should work.

Special tool required to plug into the OBD port - check if there is a member near you who can help, there is a register available somewhere on the forum. The minimum required is to change the logged serial number of the battery (can be a made up number - or as one member posted recently, the date - Eg. 30112022***** for the necessary number of characters.

As the sidewalls of tyres can be quite fragile, attention to leaving clearance from kerbs should be pretty basic.

Even with an identical replacement battery, it is preferable (some say essential) to code the battery monitoring system so that it knows that the battery has been replaced. The original battery is probably EFB type, but will be marked on battery top.

+ 1 for the GT85 or PlusGas. A home-made one from a marine forum, but I haven't tried it - mixture of ATF and Acetone - warning do not use heat with this one!

Hi Scoffer, I'd suggest something more aggressive in the line of release fluids.

The cruise can be very useful in speed-restricted sections of motorway - especially the loooong sections with average speed cams. Standard cruise is not a lot of use in the usual UK motorway mayhem - ACC should be better, but me no have! I recall reading somewhere that you can 'toggle' between the speed limiter and CC, possibly ?? with the mode 1 & 2 switches on the end of the limiter stalk?

Hi Matty, have you got the correct colour? Metal Grey is not silvery. I agree with you on the 6-speed manual though.

To each their own, I guess - I actually like that colour. A lot.

To be fair to the OP, some of the online manuals are not very clear - it seems that only some Mk 3 Fabias have this separate speed limiter control fitted - SWMBOs doesn't.

Hi, Mk3 (EA211) 1.4 TSI are belt-driven cams. The older TFSI was the Twincharger, which had some serious issues with high oil consumption. A point to note, Audi still badge their TSI engines as TFSI.

Hi Matty, gearbox certainly should not feel 'rough' in any way (caution) How hot did the engine get? Did you have oil temperature reading dialled up on the dot matrix display?

If you have access to a battery tester, battery recovery voltage after engine cranking test is a very good indication of condition. Standing voltage after removal of surface charge is another. Google or Youtube give testing methods.

In fact, plain water has better heat transference than glycol mix - as concentration goes up, heat transfer rate goes down. The glycol mix does have a higher boiling point though. As Aperture says, straight water as coolant will cause other problems.

Throttle return springs? I omitted that once after refitting the engine in my Cooper S rally car. 😒 - Late at night. On an open exhaust extractor. Are the throttle butterflys closing properly at idle?

Hi Anthony, depending on your annual milage, a diesel might not be your best choice.

Sounds fair, but get all that in writing - with no wriggle-room exceptions.
