If seller persists in fobbing you off and will not take responsibility, 1 - Keep a record of all correspondence with them. 2 - Check your legal rights under Sale of Goods Act (or whatever the latest iteration is called) 3 - File a case in County Court - this isn't expensive to do. The chances are that they will see sense when they realise that you are serious, if they don't, they will have to attend a court venue convenient to you - if they fail to appear, you should get an automatic judgement in your favour, if they then refuse to pay, the bailiffs will go in and start seizing 'goods to the value' - with all the disruption to business that will ensue from this. Unfortunately, all this can take some considerable time.

If you can, give it an overnight charge, then see if this fixes the problem. NB. remember to attach the charger Negative clamp to the metal tag on the firewall behind the battery - not the battery post. Let us know how it goes.

What type of charger is it? Do you know if your battery is EFB or AGM? You can find this info marked on the top of battery.

Possibly worth it if it can be proved that the replacement engine has had ALL the updated components fitted, and is in good condition - otherwise quite possibly a case of rinse & repeat.

Hi Jo, the 3 milers won't be doing the battery much good, nor will regular10 mile trips - but this would probably be offset if the 100 milers were reasonably frequent. My Octavia battery struggles with the 8 to 9 mile each way commute to work. These micro-hybrids, or at least the VW-based ones, seem to rely heavily on energy recuperation and limit how much charge the alternator outputs to the battery.

The electric power steering does put a very high load on the battery when it's operating. What is the length of your typical trip? It's possible that your runs aren't long enough to charge battery - although stop-start is often 1st thing to stop working on low battery state (<>50%).

Strongly advise to NOT run the engine until the cylinders and head can be inspected.

If the OP is lucky, the rocker didn't jam the affected valve in the open position when it broke - in which case it possibly didn't make contact with the piston. Unless multiple rockers failed, should have affected one cylinder only.

Unless there has been extensive damage to other engine internal components, apart from the broken rocker and associated valve, it seems unlikely that the complete engine would need replacing. Unless pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft have been damaged, I'd have thought a cylinder head rebuild would be the most that was required.

I don't have ACC - just normal cruise😒 - but I think I'm safe in thinking that the distances for ACC control calculations would be significantly greater than the collision avoidance distance for front assist.

While not fantastic, 7.5 litres per 100 Km equates to a little over 37.5 mpg - which, depending on type of driving style and trip, is not all that bad - I wouldn't call it 'abnormal' You quote your previous consumption as around 6.5 litres / 100 km a year ago - this makes a little under 6 mpg difference. Are your tyre pressures correct? This can make a significant difference to fuel consumption. You seen a little uncertain when the oil was last changed - it is entirely possible that the oil used was not the correct grade, this could make some difference. How many miles since the last oil change - and how many miles do you travel per year?

+1 for check battery condition for the stop-start error.

Front assist will only 'kick in' with full ABS mode if the system thinks you are not producing enough pressure on the brake pedal to avoid any obstruction the front assist radar is seeing. If the system can see that you are already reacting, it will not do anything. It takes very steady nerves (and judgement) to test it in real conditions! - unless you have some sort of soft, reflective, target to try it out on.

Also be very careful about small metal objects like that hair clip near the socket.

Hi Snowman, welcome to the forum. Although not quite as lazy as my 1.4 TSI Octavia, my wife has a Fabia 1.0, 110 with the M6 gearbox - and I've found it to be pretty relaxed at (legal) motorway speeds.
