If you're car is 10 years old, it can't be a Mk3 but it's a Mk2. Most fault codes will probably be similar, but some of them might be specific to Mk2.

Hi, On front brake discs, it seems that you can replace them easily. They're jist fixed with 3 screws (whose torque is 12Nm). On rear brake discs, it looks like you need to remove the hub... But this needs to be confirmed. I'm not a specialist.

It IS indeed. One of the argues to change from Mk2 to Mk3 was the width between armrests for rear passenger. Having 3 children, I knew I would face trouble to install 3 child seats in a row (2 Group 2-3 + 1 Group 1-2-3) in the Mk2, when my youngest was about to switch from Group 0+ to Group 1. There are actually 3-4 more cm in the Mk3, which make "all" the difference. No problem to put all 3 child seats.

A critical point then, unless buying a HEX Net version. But I don't know if it still comply with the £300 budget.

I agree, the VAG recommendation at 90000 km is huge. this why I replace it every 30000km (without dusting it at 15000km). It's not very dirty at 30000km and I think I could simply dust it with my compressor to make it last a bit longer. Mays be dust every 15000 and replace it at 60000km. But I'm lucky enough to face quite fair road and climate conditions on my usual trips. Not very dusty.
