  1. No AC will give cold cold air in these current conditions, it should give colder than ambient air, say by at least 8°c. Its very important to switch to recirc mode as soon as the system has evacuated the initial oven like air if the car has been left in the sun, that way it will drop the temp much much further.
  2. You have 3 wires with damaged insulation visible in the photograph, the conductors in all of them appear intact, they or other wires may have fractured cores within undamged insulation, they all need stretching and bending to verify.

I was wrong there, I have a neighbour like that, he drives his cars until they grind to a halt, its his long suffering wife who ends up doing the repairs or keeping on top of the problems. 20 years ago maybe more the ar5ehole left her but didn't even have the guts to do thatn he was in hospital for a knee operation when she visited him his mistress was there holding his hand, then after moving out the ar5ehole said he could not pay her any child support because his car needed new brakes so unless she did them for her she would be getting no money. I found this out when I saw her with the car on the sidelift jack trying to remove what little remained of the front brake disc, the pads had worn completely away, and I do mean completely, & the piston was almost friction welded to the remains of the disc, the rear brakes were just as bad. They have 6 children as well! Needless to say she took him back but people have long memories in my close. A long posting but really to say that I could probably go and look at any of the 6 cars that they have perked on their drive, the pavement & in other peoples property (they tried to take over my drive while I was in France) and find several tyres like that, they use mobile tyre fitters in big vans (as if there are not enough parking problems here) so I get to see the tyres that are removed. It's scary that there are lots like that and a sign of the times that unless they have an accident or come up as unisured on ANPR there is zero chance of them ever being stopped & fined.
  5. That will not be the reason for the tyre deflating, its the rubber inside of the carcass that retains the pressure although he has worn through a few of the reinforcing plys. I have driven off a circuit from an endurance race with 2 tyres looking like a cactus with shredded reinforcing but still holding pressure, they were anything but round though! Lucky for him and his family that the tyre deflated when it did.
  6. If you genuinely believe that regarding buying an old high mileage "sold as seen trade sale" vehicle then why are you asking for advice? Someone that has to pay a garage to diagnose and repair faults should not be buying a vehicle in that manner, perhaps this experience will enlighten him.

    Easy to get confused in this hot weather if it takes you 2 hours to walk from one side of the car to the other! The clock readings you gave were 100% correct for a symettrical set up, trying turning your watch backwards when reading one side of the vehicle.

Drop link fixings not tightened correctly, I was shocked to see that they are not a tapered ball joint but a plain shaft in a very large clearance hole and rely solely on the friction of the bolted joint to not move and create a knocking noise. The flanged nuts with the ribbed indents are well designed and do a good job of holding together a compromised joint design. So no, not a coincidence, most faults when found will usually reveal retrospectively that there were clues, a (related) job done on the car a couple of days before is either a massive clue or a red herring.

Kilen or Lesjofors (the same company), its a shame you dont have the paint spot colour code from your original springs but its very unlikely they will have been heavy duty ones for the rough road package. I fitted those to the rears of my Octavias because they would get abused towing far too heavy loads with far too much nose weight and the vehicle overloaded, when new they looked as jacked up as yours does. I fitted new rear springs to my Yeti and chose like for like by using the colour code, the ones that I got were tha same part number that I fitted to the Octavia 2, that looked really jacked up, the Yeti is as standard as its a 4x4 "Outdoor" version. Carlson or might be Carlston is the real expert on here for the vehicle springs and part numbers.

  11. Mine only potentially dazzle but they can also transmit light through the slow moving car in front that I am following closely and potentially dazzle oncoming motorists. I never used to drive at night but now I go out and travel a long way to find slow moving traffic in urban areas and single track roads in order to petentially dazzle any oncoming cars with my dipped beam headlights, I gain much pleasure from this new activity.
  12. On reflection that must be exactly what mine does, and it makes sense, there is no risk of discharging the battery if the headlights are left on but there is if only sidelights.
  13. Potentially dazzling? How can you dazzle oncoming traffic with dipped headlights especially when you are following closely and slowly the car in front? Have you expanded your conditions now from the single track roads which dont exist where I live?
  14. A "quiet" motorway does not exist in the UK at any time of the day or night.
  15. Thats why I would quite like that function to go with the new tare plate for my 750kg site hut trailer that is going to the UK with me tomorrow for the first of several removal journeys. It weighs 750kg allegedly, probably more in truth and therefore cannot carry any load unless it is registered and insured in France and has brakes, in fact the registration is compulsory over 500kg but this one predates the law change from 750kg to 500kg. Supposedly they are supposed to be towed on the road empty and unladen between sites but most are converted with toilets, sinks, a kitchenette and table & chairs etc so weigh lots more. The leaf sprung axle and truck wheels mean it can carry a tremendous load and you see them doing that every day whilst bearing the registration number of the tow vehicle. Whoever made the Tare plate up (mmm, now who could that be?) must have only weighed one wheel as it now has a PTAC of 750kg and a PV of 375kg , when it returns with the contents of my workshop it would be good to have an equally confused Maxidot display

Good luck with calculating the fuel consumed by a ventilator fan running a little faster than it might I quite liked Climatronic and was initially dissapointed that my Yeti has a manual heating and aircon system; look a little further though and you find it has nearly all the elements of a Climatronic system but not the complicated & possibly temperamental controller to go wrong. The manual controls are anything but, when you turn the temperature knob it does not operate a water valve like a real manual system, it commands the same air blending vents as Climatronic and measures their angle in the same way, it blends hot, ambient and refrigerated air just as a Climatronic, it does not have the temp sensors at the eye level vents as it does not have the function to set individual temperatures for driver & passenger. The knob controlling where the air comes out and the recirc button operate exactly the same flaps as the Climatronic, the heater/AC unit is to all intents and purposes the same simply lacking a couple of sensors and the computer taking control which for old school me is a big big advantage. To my delight I recently discovered that if the A/C is switched off (its not really off as still recirculating fluid) and you set the vent control to defrost the windscreen it turns the A/C on automatically and off again when you return the airflow to the face or feet, it may well have some of the other functions like recirc when reversing but I really dont give a four X for gimmicks like that so neither know nor care. So for me not having Climatronic is no longer a deal breaker, quite the opposite really, its something I would now seek out.

  18. Access is a real problem, I could not even get my hand to the connector and had to take a leap of faith with a screwdriver, I was lucky that time and once since. I removed the gearbox recently and after removing the battery tray and all the other bumpf from that area found that the connector was accessible, if ever I remove it again (for faultfinding) I wont push my luck & will remove the battery tray. My DPF emulator cant be seen at all, everything is hidden from view under the intake trunking & the new connector & cable that go to the visible MAF sensor are identical to the OE one now connected to the black box underneath, an MOT/CT tester could find it but he would have to go looking and know what he was looking for and where to look.
  19. I know when I have been monitoring with VCDS I could not force the evaporator temp to get to zero, for the same reason you cannot select cooling on AC when the temp approaches zero. There is a compressor cut off code in VCDS for a defrost cycle.
  20. Keep the theories coming The blank field for the trailer load clearly has not rung any bells with people in their flights of fantasy. They are blank field with the values to be inserted either during the configuration of the vehicles modules (in this case the instrument module) or to be done from the user menu or VCDS etc, they are not parameters measured by the vehicle.

The sensor will indeed stop the evaporator from freezing in high humidity and it shuts down the refrigeration to do so which would give the problem that the OP is suffering although it should only be transient, it happened one time to me when driving off Eurotunnel into France with very different weather conditions to those I had left at Folkestone, within 10 minutes on the rocade the whole car was steamed up & I could not see to drive, the AC was on and putting it on full defrost did not help, the steam would have come from myself during the 35 minute crossing possibly having got in with a wet coat. VCDS logs the previous compressor shut down codes so you can do the scan another day at your leisure. Re the American A/C units, they were badly installed with no external drains for the condensate, I had a similar thing at Isla los Rocos in Venezuela, my bathroom was flooded and the flood had come into the bedroom and soaked my backpack, other stuff was floating around, there was no leak in the bathroom, it had come through the roof but it had not been raining, it was the condensate drain from the external AC unit dripping onto a leaky flat roof.
