  1. Wow, giving an example of something contrary to your "simple logical" assertion is now a hateful comment! I will bear that in mind when responding to a topic that you participate in. Anger management is a very sensible suggestion though that shows you have good introspection. BTW, air does indeed get in when a master cylinder leaks, as the fluid level in the reservoir falls air comes in through the vent cap to replace its volume.
  2. Not necessarily so, more of a chance high up at the master cylinder than lower down in a caliper however the 6 speed concentric clutch cylinder can draw air in without ever losing a single drop of fluid even when it gets so bad that it needs bleeding every 5 miles.
  3. And how do you explain the high consumption only manifesting in the last week with low temperatures where the aircon barely has any work to do? It will consume more if the regrigerant charge is low but only measurably so in stinking hot weather.
  4. Looks like both China and India are relatively minor players in the rubber production, I was surprised to see that Thailand is by far the biggest, I thought it would be Malaysia but they turn out to be the smallest. https://www.statista.com/statistics/275397/caoutchouc-production-in-leading-countries/
  5. On the other hand if you look at say a door seal, windscreen rubber or radiator hose from a 2001 Octavia it will likely be as good as the day it left the factory, a decade or two before that these components had a very very short life. On the other other hand, if you buy new replacement door seals, windscreen rubbers or radiator hoses for the classic car you are restoring they are likely to have decomposed by the time you are ready to fit them. I carried 3 tonne yesterday on 35 year old trailer tyres that had cracking all around the sidewalls without incident, I stood back when the guy tipped from the bucket loader half expecting them to expire but they were fine, the cracking did not open up.
  6. The same pins but the sockets may be polarised or mirror images, I cant see why though. If it fits then go for it, the vehicle is not going to care what headlamp you plug into the wiring.
  7. Great idea but it would no doubt be buried deep down through several sub menus on a (not for me) touch sensitive infotainment screen. I think a cross between cruise control and the wiper delay switch would work, I click for 20mph, 2 for 30mph etc. We have "pedagogique" traffic lights, often there are no warning or instruction signs, you approach them at anything over 50km/h and they turn red, they dont care that you then slowed down they will make you stop and wait 30 seconds much to the chagrin of those behind who knew about them. It takes a few experiences for some people before the penny finally drops, as much as I hate them they work remarkably well and 99% of drivers having slowed down in advance or been forced to stop stick to the limit through the rest of the village. To explain a RN (Route Nationale) will be 80km/h national speed limit (was 90 till a few years ago) whenever it crosses a village the limit is 50km/h inside its boundarys, people know as soon as they see the standardised sign with the village name they should slow to 50km/h the exit from the controlled zone is marked by the same sign with the village name crossed through. I slow down a bit, maybe all the way to 50 dependant on the conditions or if the Flics might be hiding out of view, its a gentle deceleration off the throttle, equally when I can see the exit sign I will gradually accelerate before reaching it, French drivers will hammer on the brakes when they enter the zone, often having overtaken me at the last second as I ease off, and on leaving they will wait for the sign drop down several gears and race away like a scolded cat, no wonder they always complain about poor fuel economy!
  8. Fixed that for you!
  9. I didn't assume anything, well I did actually, knowing that you take a forensic interest in EV's parked up charging, knowing that you were disabled I assumed that if it was a disabled space (not clear to me from the photo) then you would have looked for a badge and would have responded to tell me that it did or didn't. We can agree to disagree regarding giving priority spaces to supposed families, I would much prefer them to be given over to the handicapped, many that I see parking in them are lazy and entitled, they may have children but not with them, the very provision of such spaces feeds that entitlement. The French system is a good compromise, they would have wider spaces with a similar pictogram at the ends of the parking rows, not right outside the building, a lot of them have now become EV charging points so it was not a legal requirement, I doubt it is in the UK.

  11. I can translate all the Linkedin techno speak into 5 words "I am a drop shipper" "Direct factory to consumer model"
  12. Would that be parking in the spaces reserved for those in need? 😄 BTW I dont include those with children in that category although the supermarkets seem to.
  13. I read that as keep buying and selling the cars initially!!!!
  14. Probably found in most filters if people looked, have you always done this before and was there no shiny material before? Rub some between your fingers, if it feels sharp like it would cut you then maybe look further, removing the cam cover would be my first thing, if it feels relatively soft then it will be the main bearing material and quite normal. If you are really concerned then you can send away an oil sample for analysis.
  15. A registered office is in most cases not the trading premises of the company, often it will be their accountants address. Many farms are now small business centres, there will be lots of accountants working from converted agricultural buildings. You are right to be looking for info but perhaps barking up the wrong tree.
  16. Great title!!! I was doing some repairs on the house I used to rent out in the UK, the tenant had whatever the Alexa thing was, it was left on radio (for the dog ) and I could not work out how to turn it down, frustrated I shouted "ALEXA, SHUT THE **** UP! and she got the message and did just that, trouble was when I later wanted to turn it back on she just ignored me 😀
  17. There is not a spring attachment, it wont be the clutch switch as it has no moving parts and is operated by a magnetic field. It is likely to be the control loading cam (which does have a spring) where it acts on the pedal, you are likely to have doused it with lubricant.
  18. If you are towing a Sherman tank up a mountain road in 45°c+ temperatures and are someone with no understanding of engines and zero mechanical sympathy, maybe, just maybe. The manufacturers want to cover their ar5e under all possible circumstances whilst at the same time raking in the money.
  19. The price of manufacturer parts and main dealer labour to fit them has become completely stupid in recent years. Scarcely a day goes past on here without someone writing about a £5K £6K or £10+K bill for work that often is not even needed, it always seems to be older vehicles and maybe its their way of saying dont come back to us for any problems with your 4 year old or more vehicle I can remember when the dealer price for all the parts to build a new car cost less than a new vehicle, no I am not kidding, it was when there was purchase tax on new vehicles which started the UK kit car (or self assembly as it was called in those days) industry. Many people were buying all the parts to assemble their own Morris Minors for less than the cost of a new vehicle. If you could get hold of a Bill Of Materials for a modern car, all the part numbers, quantitys and retail prices even the cheapest car would cost half a million pounds to buy the parts.
  20. No need to apologise, they are indeed a rack and pinion but with a recirculating ball screw around the rack shaft for the power assistance, there will probably be a Youtube video showing it. I only found out by watching Ed China on Wheeler dealers working on one, I'm not sure he explained the operation but as soon as I saw it the penny dropped, since 2003 when I first saw electric power steering on our 24 hour Works Mini Coopers I had been pondering how they could work.
  21. Rear drum brakes are always one leading and one trailing shoe so reverse gear was not a necessity, for stuck front drum brakes it would definitely be.
  22. I cant see a butterfly in that photo and I dont recall having that probe or whatever it is in the bore of my throttle valve. But it looks more like the throttle valve than the EGR.
  23. Compressor runs all the time, the clue is in the word clutchless. PAG lubricant is not in suspension with R123a gas, a cylinder contains the refrigerant gas only. There is only one seal not "seals", the pump seal, the shaft turns all the time the engine is running and is swimming in PAG oil. But for having to use flexible hoses to allow for engine movement there would be no loss of refrigerant in a car AC system, there would be flared couplings and no O rings which also leach the refrigerant to a lesser degree. You wont find EV's needing regassing but that wont stop the manufacturers from convincing owners that they do, they have it down to a fine art.
  24. I said to myself it surely wont be long before someone trots out, or in this case cuts and pastes, that nonsense and I did not have to wait long. That has not been valid for nearly 2 decades on VAG vehicles and others with clutchless AC compressors.
  25. I had to fix this very same issue on my coffeemaker tonight, it has buttons that press on a tactile membrane which make contacts on the circuit board below, much like the keyboard I am typing on and typical of many modern devices including I'm sure your centre console. It was sticky schmoo gumming up the fine clearance between the button and the surrounding plastic bezel, I cleaned mine with what I had to hand, very little in the caravan, I used Sanytol a disinfectant type kitchen cleaner and paper towel folded fine to get in the gap, it has done the job. I'm sure you will be able to do something similar, maybe even using a silicone polish like Mr Sheen which would add some lubrication, I dont think its switch cleaner that you need although it may well do the job, your problem is mechanical and not dirty switch contacts which are most likely protected against spills.
