Skoda superb mk3 coolant silica bag split
Could you please expand on that? It doesn't leave me any the wiser, what was the damage and what was the reason for replacing? The first question probably answers the second one. Thanks in advance!

Changing trailer lights from filament bulbs to LED - problems?
It depends on whether you have a basic towing relay or the factory integrated system, for the former you will lose the audible warning that the trailer indicators are functioning which most of us use to confirm that the towing lead is actually plugged in. No great loss but you will need to be more vigilant when coupling. For the latter I am not sure, others may advise.

Locked out !
Sounds like an improvement but I would not go testing it when the boot or drivers door lock microswitch fails, not if but when!

Superb 4x4 2.0TDI drivetrain movement
Thanks, thats exactly how I had visualised it and was going to describe it but then I thought it might be bonded to the rubber, I should have known better, my father manufactured Silentbloc bushes so in the recesses of my memory I know all the materials surface treatments and processes, aluminium was never involved, maybe its possible today. It looks like a good solution to high torque applications but not as you say to be used with a softened weakened bush.

Dpf regen frequency
Typical I'm afraid and I found that even when I was doing 800km journeys with the engine under high load (towing overweight barn door trailers) where the engine was under constant passive regeneration it was not taking it into account and would regen several times on the journey and then keep trying each journey less then 25kms in the following week. This is because it ignores the measured DPF values and its the calculated ones that trigger the regens, its fairly clear that the "emissions fix" ECU update was very poorly done and biased way to far the other way. Eventually it became too much for me, I was concerned for the longevity of the EGR cooler and the bore wash from the wasted fuel injected on each abortive attempt at a regen, no point in having a car that has good fuel economy if you end up driving solely to allow a regen to complete every 120kms. I fitted an EGR emulator/simulator and then paid to have the emissions fix rolled back, I have been aware of 2 maybe 3 regens in the last year, just like my ex neighbour in the UK who would not allow his car to be "fixed" It was not cheap but worth the money to me as I intend keeping the car for as many years as I can.

Superb 4x4 2.0TDI drivetrain movement
Our posts overlapped, from what you have said I am guessing the insert is a part that bolts on and fills the voids, is that correct?

Superb 4x4 2.0TDI drivetrain movement
"Into the rubber mount" and the photos describing an "insert", is that what you are speaking of? Is it something that can be fitted into the existing mounting without removing it in a press? A link or photograph of the item in place would answer my question. Thanks in advance.

Car won't select a gear
Wow! Every day is a learning day! It certainly sounded exactly like a rusted and stuck clutch plate but I have never known it occur overnight, it usually takes weeks/months, I even posted that view very recently, granted that is from airborn moisture and yours got a soaking but that is ultra quick. I have just seen from your location that you are in the North, did the problem occur after a freezing night perhaps? I'm really pleased you resolved it and 👍to Kenny!

Octavia 1.6tdi CR engine stutter at low revs
I would not be so fast to discount that possibility. Others have the experience of the 1.6TDi, mine is just from reading what they post but there have been many examples of injector failures which indeed cause misfiring.

Driving without the engine cover
He probably did not register the words "small capacity", an over the top response nonetheless but we all have our bad days.

Please help, is my car safe to drive?
No way is it overdue a belt according to VAG's current guidance, I doubt that it was even due the last one under the old regime. That said if the waterpump is to be changed then the cambelt might as well be changed yet again.

Loss of electrics on one rear door - Yeti 1.8tsi 2010
Have a look before you go spending any money. That said its no bad thing to have one in stock, it will be needed one day, if only I could recall where I stored mine! I bought the cheapest as usual, not used so cant say how good but the wires are flexible enough, different colour codes though I think, that doesnt bother me.

the truth about electric cars
That was the reason, €2K for a new battery, €800 for a 22 year old second hand one where the donor vehicle had travelled 267000 kms plus delivery from Holland plus fitting. They are cheap to register though.

the truth about electric cars
Nickel Hydride batteries according to Dracula, maybe the cost of replacements has put most of them off the road in France.
-
the truth about electric cars
No I used to see hundreds on the roads in France, I have been here 20 years so the vast majority I saw were over here. Maybe its a fiscality thing but its the first registration that gets hammered, we dont pay road tax, only a registration fee on new and second hand vehicles, it drops a lot after 40 years old and down to next to nothing after 10 years. I will look into it.

the truth about electric cars
Yes, thats the one, and yes I recall it doing what was said on the tin, no stories or controversies around it like todays EV's, exactly what I would expect of Toyota. Thats why it is so weird that I no longer see them, the owners may have moved onto newer vehicles but surely they were sought after second hand?

the truth about electric cars
OMG 3rd world or what! However did you cope? 🙄

the truth about electric cars
What was the Nissan Hybrid that was the first to market, the one with a weird rear end, the one that all the virtue signallers were rushing to buy many years back? Or was it perhaps a Toyota? I'm sure that you know the one that I mean, it was pretty much the first mainstream EV, at one time you would see them everywhere usually white in colour. I ask because I never ever see one these days, have they all been scrapped or just put on Sorn so the virtue signallers can continue driving their SUV's while still claiming to be saving the planet?

Battery (1 year old) keeps going flat
A very good description, that should be a sticky because so many people are being duped into replacing perfectly servicable batteries though ignorance often that of a mechanic who they should be able to trust.

MOT Advisory for all 4 tyres
"Summer tyres"again 🤣 I can't somehow see them using those words when they refute the claim. Notwithstanding your obsession with a product that does not exist I completely agree with your analysis of how the claim will go. There is another way of looking at it, the OP has no claim, the tyres are still fit for purpose and legal to use on the road.

ULEZ and other similar schemes we are being told are all about clean air for everybody but are they really just a means of making money from motorists?
