  1. Re corrosion inspection, will make sure to make sure that’s on the list when the car goes in. Was going to take a load of pics before anyway, no way she is mucky enough to not do a corrosion inspection. Re washing, that deffo reinforces it. 👍
  2. All the tyres were swapped round when winter wheel were put on in Oct so no swapping wheels needed. Re getting the car washed, I’m not that fussed. In my 18 months of ownership it’s been washed once after I took delivery of it, not by me I hasten to add, so it can wait until the MOT in a years time. TBS though, I’ll make sure they know not to wash it as I’m waiting for it so will be keen to get going and up the old A3 to home. 👍

I remember the traffic piling up behind me on last few trips to France when I pootled along at 90kph to try and comply. Eventually made the exec decision to up the speed to 100kph as keeping to 90kph was resulting in more aggressive (than usual) driving from the “local” drivers to the point that their overtaking was becoming more and more dangerous. Of course that was before the cameras appeared, and well before the tickets followed through to home. Re limited vs CC, agreed re using CC but sometimes easier to have the limiter engaged, plus MrsDSL is not a fan of CC abut wouldn’t have a problem with the limiter.
  4. Was planning to get MOT and haldex done a couple of weeks before warranty dies Dec 22. If I do get it serviced next year, will deffo be before the original warranty expires. Plus then have to have a think re All-in-One package or straight warranty. Something to mull over Black Friday 2022. 👍

Does a bog-basic SE have speed limiting as part of the cruise control set-up? Going to France next year and, as they have a fairly heavily enforced 50mph limit on single carriage roads, was looking to use the limited to drive at the limit and annoy as many locals as I could! The car is tucked up in the garage and not going out for a while so can’t try it out, plus the manual isn’t that clear. It mentions with GRA and without, but can’t find out what this GRA is. Assuming I don’t have GRA, surely this just works the cruise control. Or have I got this wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time and deffo won’t be the last.
  6. I got it wrong, it’s the straight £185 oil change. Prob next service (Dec 2024) will be same plus extended mode. I resisted all the upselling opportunities (pollen filter & fuel additive), plus resisted the lure of the £14 a month for 2 x oil services, one pollen filter and one extended scope add on. Whilst yes, there is a £128 saving on all that to be had, I’m quite happy sticking to biannual servicing as only doing pretty low mileage. If my thinking is right, the service plan puts me in annual servicing mode, no ta. And re £185, I’m quite happy with that as came from LRs and they seem to charge that just to answer the phone. It’s going to be strange as the Skoda dealer (Guildford) is right next to where I took my LRs. Now a Tesla dealer so no popping in and chewing the fat over LRs. 😞
  7. Car is a couple of months off its first service on time basis (23 months/10800 miles), trying to find out what is supposed to be done. Anyone got a link to fixed price servicing for that service? The “book a service” link on the Skoda site is saying £249 for the service but gives no details. Not a problem if it is but would rather know what’s being done before I book it. I’ve put MrsDSL on the case and she’s loosing the will to be of any assistance at all as she can only find 3 years onwards!!! TIA D
  8. I’m away from the car so can’t check but ISTR mine is 25 months after it was registered or 18,000 miles (scheduled late Jan 22, presently at 10,500 miles). Might get the service done in the next couple of weeks purely out of convenience.
  9. Same here, winter wheels on today. It’s gonna be a cold one, I can feel it in my bones. 👍
  10. Winter wheels fitted today. It’s going to be another proper winter, I can feel in in my bones. 👍

Switch is the one that also adjusts/folds the mirror, on the forward bit driver’s door armrest. Why it’s not tied in with the rear window demist is a mystery but it’s not. Mine’s on a bog basic SE, and works well, once I realised the rear window wasn’t helping with the rear window.
  12. Conti WinterContact TS850s ready to go on in a couple of weeks. They did suuuuuuuuuuuperb last winter on proper snow and, more fun, sheet ice. Any excuse for a gratuitous snow pic. 👍
  13. Nearer a 1/4 than a 1/3, which isn’t too bad considering I’m only supposed to be carrying a skinny spare. And height wise, the boot closes without contact so that’s a success for me. 👍 Now looking to shrink the luggage space further by seeing what would be left if I put my Engel MT45 fridge in there. I suspect not a lot. Might need a smaller fridge. 😃
  14. Plus Karoqs work in the rain. 👍
  15. I thought it was quite light, but I’m used to lugging Disco3/4 wheels around which ISTR weigh in at 33kg each.
  16. Agreed re the size of the wheel, but I need that size. I don’t fancy using the skinny spare with its 50/50 limitations if I get a puncture at 5am on a Sunday morning somewhere between Aviemore and Perth with 500 miles still to go, a route I do reasonably regularly. I’d want to change the wheel, either myself or viA RAC type chap, then get going, no piddling around on said Sunday morning trying to get my original tyre repaired or replaced. I’d rather do that at my leisure once I get to my destination. I was used to carrying spares underslung (Disco3s & 4) but that had its disadvantages too, esp the risk of theft. With a relatively compact car, along with 4x4 gubbins, there are not many options. With the above layout at least I don’t have to empty the boot out to get to the wheel, just undo the strap and pull, plus the right sized hole and newly available cover to bung on the grubby wheel. Well that’s the plan anyway, hope never to need to put it to the test.
  17. Sooooooooo, bit of an update. Car was in the dealers for reversing camera and dash cam fit and I mentioned the issue with filling the AB. Servicing chap had a chat with technical chap and the conclusion was the car had a 7ltr AB tank so that would explain why I could only get 5 ltrs in there. Begs the question, 7ltr tank or the 12ltr tank the manual says is there? Advice was run it low and fill it up, then keep an eye on it for the nest few days. Hmmmmmmm, not convinced.
  18. I don’t want to clutter up the other thread re fitting spares to a Karoq so started a new one. 👍 Previously I carried my full sized spare flat, using my skinny spare mounting kit with the floor level kept flat by padding the volume above the tools with general stuff, much of it un-needed. It did compromise space, making a pretty small boot and less useable but the need to carry a full sized wheel (be it summer or winter tyre) outweighed the volume sacrifice. Here’s the boot with just a tyre in there when I was first sorting it. Not the ideal boot area, but managed. Then I had a bit of a Eureka moment and wondered if it would fit on its edge, which it did. It fits almost perfectly, the load cover pops out of the mounting thingie but the door closes fine. The tools fit in a tiny bag, all bar the locking key & tweezers which I keep in the front of the car. In the side cubby hole is jack tools, when brace, 1ltr oil and gardening gloves. All snug. See next again pic. First step, find piece of carpet that fits, kind off. Pack jacking kit and other stuff in cubby hole. Put wheel in there, get SWMBO to hold wheel and ratchet strap the wheel to the shopping bag rail. It feels pretty solid, no movement or wobble. Lots of space behind the wheel. In there, as well as the tools above, are 2 jackets, 2 pairs of fleece gloves, 2 hats and jump leads. With some spare space for small things I can post through the spokes. Final result, deeper but narrower boot, more volume available and should be more usable for us. Time will tell, but can all be put back together if it doesn’t work.
  19. I carry a full sized alloy as a spare using the skinny spare Mount then packed out with “stuff” to keep the boot level. OK, I loose a good chunk of volume in what is already a small boot but for me that’s a sacrifice worth making. Here pre “stuff” packing. However I had a bit of a Eureka moment recently and wondered if I could get the wheel in any other way. Tools from the spare kit pack in a stupidly small bag, they fit in the LHS side pouch along with the standard 1l oil bottle. With all the polystyrene removed and down to the floor, the wheel sits fine on its edge, then ratchet strapped to the rail that hold the hooks for the shopping bags. It pops out the load cover on one side but all door closes fine, also I can get quite a bit of my “stuff” in the cavity of the wheel and between the wheel and the boot wall. The wheels in a cover so luggage kept off the tyre, it gives a narrower but deeper boot that should work better for me. Off cut of carpet acts as a perfect floor lining. Now as they say, no pic = didn’t happen, but the car is in the dealers for fitting the reversing camera & dashcam so everything’s out of the boot but I’ll get shot once I put the spare back in. 👍
  20. Same here on mine, engine shutting down before I’ve even stopped. If I don’t remember to press the “kill the piggin’ SS button” MrsDSL will do so and give me that look! 🙄
  21. Unfortunately Karoq wheels are like hen’s teeth on Fleabay. I was lucky, I got one set of 17” Ratikons on EBay and one set from Gumtree (5 for full set of winter wheels, 1 spare for “summer” set plus 2 that I haven’t found a use for), but I can’t remember ever seeing a Triton listed.
  22. DSL replied to Andy64's topic in General Maintenance
You could do it the hard way, drop by drop using the dipstick. Put it in, take it our & wipe down. Repeat. My folks put too much oil in there car when they changed “check the oil” to “top up the oil” in their minds. It didn’t take them too long (an hour or so) and was the maintenance equiv of doing lines. You’d hope they wouldn’t make that mistake again but I’m not convinced.
  23. Firstly, daft question and I can’t see why there should be but any warranty issues with getting the car serviced several (7 - 8) weeks early? It ties in with where I’ll be and means I don’t have to take the car up to the Inverness VW dealer in early Jan. The warranty t&cs just refer to as per servicing schedule. Anyone heard of any warranty problems with getting services done early? Secondly, for the 3rd year of the overseas section of the new car warranty it’s pay and claim when travelling outside the UK. That’s weird enough but it has this clause in there: In order for reimbursement to be possible the repair invoice must be returned to a UK Authorised Repairer within 14 calendar days of the invoice date. Seriously? We’re planning 2 x 7 week trips to France year so if I need to have something done can this be done remotely via email & pic? Anyone any experience of this?
  24. From memory the tank should be 12 ltrs, and deffo didn’t want to accept more than 1/2 the 10ltr container when the dash indicated it should take the whole lot. The “range” has dropped by 1,000 miles since I filled it up, which is about right cf the mileage I’ve done in the car since. Now got 2,500 miles until empty and can add approx 3.5 - 4.5l (from memory) but will leave it until I’ve done another 2,000 miles.
  25. Anyone that buys Nespresso capsules shouldn’t have a problem getting the above mentioned Touch car cups as they regularly have them in “buy so many capsules, get a free car cup” offers. At last count I have 5 or 6, all free.
