1.4TSI vs 1.5TSI Octavia DSG 2018 differences?
I don't think build date is an issue, it will be whether the car has had the software fix for the kangaooring issue. Only a dealer will be able to tell you that.

Right Heater Problems
Thats not good news for a 68 Plate car. Any warranty left.

Right Heater Problems
If your car has Silicat, it will say on the expansion tank "Mit Silikat", if its a later model 67 plate onwards I believe, maybe earlier, they have a different design and doesn't say "Mit Silikat" on the tank. Have a look through this thread. Unfortunately if the Silicate bag has burst, its and expensive fix.

1.4TSI vs 1.5TSI Octavia DSG 2018 differences?
The 1.5 has ACT (Active Cyclinder Technology) which will shut down 2 cylinders depending on the driving conditions. Some buyers have reported kangarooing with the manual version but not the DSG version. Both the 1.4 and 1.5 are 150BHP and I think the real world economy to be about the same. Some have had a software fix the for kangarooing and reported a 10% loss in economy. Bear in mind this 1.5 engine is across the VAG range and affected others not just Octavia. Either way the Octavia is big inside given that its based on the golf platform. The rear seat legroom is best in class and the estate has plenty of room. I have the 1.4TSI SEL DSG Estate and loving it. https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/engines/petrol

1.4 tsi autonomy
I'm also getting about 420/450 miles per tank with a mixed commute of 36 miles a day with 20 miles of motorway. I swapped a 1.6 diesel Honda Civic which could easily do 60mpg without much effort, I even achieved nearly 80mpg driving very carefully. Do I miss it, not at all. the Octavia 1.4TSI DSG, is a great car. Average MPG for my commute is around 42 mpg

In need of advice
Gone from 6 speed manual 1.6 diesel civic to 7 speed DSG on my 1.4TSI SEL and loving it. So easy and relaxed to drive. Don’t see the auto being any more problematic than the manual it’s a solid box. I’ve heard the 1.5 is less problematic with the DSG, but other may think otherwise.

Error service: leave vehicle only when selector in position p
Just started to get this issue on my 67 plate DSG. I had to call Skoda assist for another issue and asked him to check for this and it was in the log. The engineer recorded this in his log for the vehicle and said to keep an eye on it. If it re-occurs to report straight back to The dealer. Not sure why yours isn’t recorded.

1.0 or 1.4 Petrol
I have a Octavia 1.4TSI DSG which is great and easy to drive around town and is also my first auto. Mine was in for some work and I was loaned a 1.0 Kamiq DSG and I have to say the performance was amazing. My only gripe was the stop/start seemed to kick in early when the engine was cold and vibrated badly on restart probably due to the 3 cylinders. My Octavia 1.4 is hardly noticeable on stop/start. I would say the 1.0 will probably be perfect but also try the DSG it’s a great auto box. I believe the 1.5 coupled with the DSG is less problematic than the manual version, but probably more than you need by the sounds of it.

Missing functions on 2019 VRS infotainment?
Will give it a go on the way home tonight and report back. Where is the performance monitor located in the infotainment unit.

Missing functions on 2019 VRS infotainment?
Is this only on the VRS models or all DSG with sport mode.

Only my 2nd car
I've gone from 6 speed Manual in a 1.6 Diesel Civic, to 1.4TSI DSG Estate and loving the auto box. Its does make for relaxed driving particularly in traffic and economy is around the 42-45MPG without much effort. KIckdown is awesome especially in Sport mode but you also have manual override should you wish to use it. I suggest you drive both, but especially the DSG. Also the Estate is huge inside, will easily accommodate your dog, rear leg room is best in class considering its based on the Golf platform so will be ideal for the new addition to the family. Would also recommend Skoda Approved, for warranty. Avoid the 1.5 unless DSG, some owners having issues with kangarooing, more so with manual gearboxes.

Octavia VRS mk3 3rd brake light unit
Try these guys https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/1z5945097a-third-brake-lamp-skoda-6454.html or https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/1z5945097a or https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/search?keyword=1z5945097a Only the top one is showing stock at the moment. Never bought from any of these so cannot vouch for them.

Missing functions on 2019 VRS infotainment?
Using CarPlay or Android Auto you can get to some of these vehicle details. Under the My Skoda app, you have My Settings, Dynamic and Sport. Each show different functions but include speed, pressure, G force, Braking etc. I'm guessing they have removed it from the standard head unit in favour of the My Skoda App. There is also an update to 0478 for this unit.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
No they are rated for 75kg I think, may be 100kg. So good to go.
-
Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
It is starting to sound like MG and their EV5 with roof bars that cannot carry any load. They are there but technically useless.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
Yes does seem to be an odd move by manufacturers, but I guess the mass market is for vehicles that will never tow anything and thus the parts are standard. The extra bits to make a car fit for towing are cost options and thus paid for at the time of purchase. One could argue that all SUV's should be tow bar ready U being for utility. Not sure if this affects any of the Skoda SUV range. Where it does become a problem is 2nd hand dealers not knowing the limitations of the vehicles and thus selling cars that buyers cannot easily upgrade with tow bars without first referring to forums such as this for advice. Its all about emissions and price points these days, not suitability for certain requirements.

Key fob closing windows.
Had the same issue with by SEL after purchase. Lower each window fully, raise them until closed release and then hold the button up for another 1 second afterwards and that should enable the global opening and closing. Be warned though, I put my keys in my pocket soon after wards and was doing some work outside the back of the house. Went round the front and all the car windows were open. Me bending and working must have pressed the unlock button and lowered all the windows.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
Once the tow bar is fitted, the assumption is the vehicle is suitable for towing. So in the future if you see a MK4 for sale with a tow bar fitted, make sure its a factory fitted option and not a 3rd party unit, otherwise as @FlyingGecko mentions there may be issues after purchase of things breaking that were not designed for a vehicle fitted with a tow bar leading to all sorts of legal issues of responsibility. It appears that even some Skoda dealerships are not aware of this issue.

Octavia MK4 not approved for towing.
Yes, sorry just found these. My bad.

Octavia MK4 not approved for towing.
I don't own a MK4, but picked up on a statement from another forum that the Octavia MK4 has not been approved for towing. Apparently the VIN plate/car info plate shows 0KG for the GTW value and some tow bar fitters are ignoring this and still fitting tow bars. Just thought I would give the heads up on this as it appears that some dealers are not aware of this. It has been mentioned here https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-together/discussions/information-technical-tips-advice/towcars-towing/new-skoda-not-approved-to-tow-buyer-beware/

1.5 petrol Octavia III
1.4 TSI is also 150bhp. To be honest I expected the 1.5TSI to have more power. The Civic 1.5 is 180bhp, but they stuck a crappy CVT box on it. Hardly any difference in the 1.4 and 1.5 in terms of real world economy and performance perhaps worse economy if you have the software upgrade to supposedly fix the kangarooing.
